What Happened to Players Bench?

Denizens of the greater Colleyville/Grapevine/Southlake/Bedford area might have noticed the abrupt shutdown of the Players Bench store in Colleyville off Highway 121 and Glade. It happened about a month ago.

Well, according to Bob, the regional manager who works at the Grapevine Mills location, the landlord pulled some shenanigans and gave him just a few days to get the stuff out, saying there was another tenant coming in. Then that tenant backed out, leaving an empty space. (He-he.)

According to Bob, we should look for Players Bench to either open in another location (possibly at the Harwood/121 intersection or thereabouts) or expand the Grapevine Mills shop to carry a full range of gear, including goalie stuff. Or, Bob said, there are some other things he either can't or won't talk about yet.

Developing.

D-League Update

Last week’s results:

Yokels 5, Kings 1: Jeff Hurst and Jeffrey Womack each had two for Yokels. Hurst now has 19 points, including 11 assists.
Misfits 5, Stickmen 1: Ben Ferrell, playing in his first game of the season, scored the hat trick for Misfits. Don Hurt stopped 22 of 23 shots.
Wolverines 4, Phantoms 3: Bobby Sirkis scored the winner with 15 seconds left. Assists went to Jeff Blake and Brian Kapalka. Cory Howard had tied it 3-3 less than a minute earlier with his second goal of the game, giving the improving Phantoms hope for their first victory.
Blue Devils 3, Ice Dogs 2: Mark Johnson scored his second goal with six seconds left as the BDs topped the Ice Dogs. Jim Koehler, who scored the other Blue Devils goal, got the winning assist. Terry Redmon was stellar, stopping 26 of 28 shots.
Beerflyers 6, Hitmen 3: Chris Ratzer had a pair of goals for the Beerflyers. Brian Ratzer added three assists.
Hockey Team 15, Mid Cities 1: Please clear children from the room before reading about this R-rated massacre. … Erik Anderson had four goals and an assist. Nick Strobel had four more. Several others had multi-point games. The shorthanded and Slezak-less Mid-Cities squad was outshot … 49-15. Ouch. Can't blame it on the goalie, who shall remain nameless. And now, a hot sports opinion: You have to wonder about the sportsmanship in this one. HT scored five in the third period, which they entered leading 10-0. Two of those goals were unassisted, which indicates a breakaway goal. We’ve been involved in blowouts where the winning team did a lot of passing in the third period. Did that happen here? We’re just asking …

This week's games:
Wednesday
Phantoms (0-9) vs. Ice Dogs (0-7-1): Somebody's got to win. 10:15 p.m.
Hockey Team (7-0-1) vs. Kings (3-4): 10:30 p.m.
Thursday
Mid-Cities (2-6) vs. Wolverines (5-3-1): 10:15 p.m.
Friday
Misfits (7-1) vs. Yokels (5-4-1): 9 p.m.
Hitmen (6-2) vs. Stickmen (2-5): 10:30 p.m.
Beerflyers (7-1) vs. Blue Devils (6-2): 11:55 p.m. (Inside joke: Dancing Hippo serves breakfast in the bar immediately following the game.)

And then, Merry Christmas. Games will resume Jan. 3.

New Changes for I league

As promised, here are the changes for next season.
most of you should know this by now, but if you have been in a cave, here's what's goin down.

-The League is moving from 14 to 16 teams. Knute has mentioned a couple new teams coming into the league.

-A Gold Division and Silver Division for I league. Whether or not these teams play each other for the keg is unknown...but we hope it works like that.

-A new Stanley Keg has been commissioned and will be unveiled for next season's championships. (we assume 2 keg champions)

-Times have been moved up this season to accomodate more teams and still keep relatively decent slots. Late game will be 1145pm. So we may have said goodbye to sunday morning hockey....HOORAH!

I League Playoff Pairings

Standings confirmed by Knute as well as times and rinks.

also from Knute...

"A Holiday Buffett will be made available from 9pm to Close. We will make sure food is available to those in the late games."

"A Band will start to playing at 9pm in the CrossBar. This is a foursome that plays Blues and Rock. I hope you will show appreciation for them by tipping them during and in between their sets."

"Zero Tolerance for Bad Behavior. For the most part all of you have been exceptional in this but recently at another facility there was some "poor judgment" shown by two players who let their emotions get away with them. This is a night of celebration and to play some hockey. Family members tend to come out on this night and watch and party. As always be on your best behavior!"

Lets have fun Gents...and ladies!

Week 8: I League

Playoff Matches are secured. Many tie breakers were used. Some great games tonight, some total domination games and even some thuging.

Stickmen 4 Brewzers 0
Stickmen take the best record in the league into the Keg game with the Lowest GAA in their 2nd straight shut out. Steph Trapp, Dan Lagrone, Jeff Thomas and Larry Wade had the strikes. Tim James had a couple helpers. Meanwhile Stickmen goalie Steve McCollister had, what looks like, 14 saves on 14 shots. Stickmen will go after their 3rd Keg in Franchise history next week.

Puckers 4 Patriots 2
Patriots charged out of the gate for the 2-0 lead on two Jeff Eagle goals. But there is a reason they say the 2 goal lead is dangerous. The Patriots just pretty much forgot how to play hockey for the 2nd and 3rd periods. Puckers took advantage of a somewhat tired and out of position pats team and rattled off 4 unanswered goals from Guy Riggs, Dallas Lehr, Ron Constantine, and Chris Kirton. Pats goalie Jesse Gonzales fought with honor, but too many mistakes plagued the Patriots. On the other side of the ice, netminder Casey Jenkins had many bounces go his way as he shut the pats down after giving up two goals. Violence ensued at the end of this one, Oh Dear. As requested by both squads, we will say the refing in this one, as well as all the games on the Green Rink was very….unfortunate.

Spiders 5 True.com 4
Chris Gallagher’s goal with 49 seconds left in regulation lifted the Spiders into the 3rd place game next week. This one was an offensive fiesta as the Spiders had a 4-2 lead after the first period. Mike Lambert had the hat trick, from what the score sheet says, while Pete Clark added a tally in the first. True.com kept it close in the opening period with goals form Tim O’Donnell and Melissa Ross. True.com would tie it up in the 2nd with two goals from Jonathan Keith and the always dangerous David Benson. As noted earlier, Gallagher’s goal at the end was the difference maker.

Stingers 3 Blue Devils 2 (SO)
David Edwards wins it for the Stingers as this shootout goes 7 skaters deep per side. In Regulation, Ray Workman and David Ogle had the Blue Devil goals while the Stingers got their two from Scott Childress and Ronald Widmann. Blue Devils Goalie Mike Redmond kicks aside 14 of 16 before the shootout while Greg Carter stops 8 of 10.

Wolverines 9 Shockers 0
This was an absolute thrashing. Probably the most one-sided game of the season. Chris Conner decided to go insane as he gets the hat trick plus 2 helpers. Greg Mersbergher, Nate Hodges, John Pinnar, and Bryan Conner had scores while Trevor Lichty had two goals.

Komets 3 Ice Holes 1
Komets get their revenge from last season’s humiliation by playing one of their best games of the season. Gerrald Kappers' Goal from Nate Hodges gave the Komets momentum 30 seconds into the first. Komets would make it 2-0 in the second period on Melissa Ross’ goal. The Ice Holes, who fought a very physical game struck back on a Michael Crook goal to make it 2-1. Komets responded as a Sergio Castillo point blast was deflected home by Ross for her second of the night. Next to the Puckers, the Komets are probably the team with the most momentum.

Snipers 3 Fugaweez 2
Snipers with a huge upset, makes some wonder if the Fugs are deserving of a Keg Birth, but we think they do. Snipers’ Bill Fitch gets the first for the Snipers from Rob Richards, but the Fugs countered with Matt Osbourne’s goal. Alex Eyesermans gave the Snipers the lead again, but it was to be tied yet one more time on Osbourne’s 2nd score of the night. With 2 minutes left in regulation, Andrew “warrior” St. Julian humbles the Fugaweez for the 3-2 lead. Patrick Donaghue looked turconian on the night by stopping 26 of 28 shots. Fugs will also be going for their 3rd Keg title against the Stickmen next week.

So now that the dust has settled….we have out rankings…Yet must be blessed by Knute

Week 8 Times...I league

Twas the week before the playoffs…ok we can’t write poetry so screw that.
Keg match up is pretty much secured. Both Fugs and Stickmen are in regardless of what happens to their games. (we heard a stickmen vs pats match up almost happened, but all parties couldn’t reach a consensus)

So this week looks like this…
7:45: Ice Holes vs Komets: I league Game of the Night:All we know is the Komets are pissed after last season’s 9-1 drumming at the hands of the Ice Holes.

8:15: Snipers vs Fugaweez: Fugs are in the Keg game, snipers aren’t…we wonder what the Fugs/Snipers’s coach is going to do, huh Steve?

9pm: Stickmen vs Brewzers: Stickmen have their ticket punched for the keg, Brewzers are battling for position for the battle for Place next week.

9:30 pm: Shockers vs Wolverines: Both teams coming off humiliating defeates.

10:15 pm: Blue Devils vs Stingers: This should be a good matchup as both teams try and make a respectable place game next week.

10:45 pm: The Patriots had a huge emotional win last week over the Spiders, however wont make the keg this season. They look to hold on to 3rd place. Puckers trying to continue their winning streak.

11:30pm: Spiders vs True.com: Spiders need a win to play for 3rd place agains the pats next week. True.com could very well pull the upset this week.

We havnt forgotten point leaders
and there is big news for way next session will work....more on that tomorrow.

Week 7: I league

So with one more week to go before playoffs, we believe we have our Keg teams...As for the rest of the league, great games occured...

Patriots 4 Spiders 2
I league Game of the Night Part I was a classic. Both teams needed a win to stay in the Keg hunt, but more on that later. Spiders coming off their barnburner against the Blue Devils while the Pats came off their heartbreaker to the Ice Holes. Play started out with the Spiders striking first on a goal from Patti Greco on a nice set up from Linda Mason. The Pats responded on a lazer wrist shot that painted the top corner from Jeff Eagle to knot the game at 1-1. Pats then took a 2-1 lead on Nate Hodges’ sassy breakaway goal and never looked back. Rahul Sharma added 2 strikes to extend the lead to 4-1. (what, Patriots showing offense!?!). Spiders then got a nice goal on a one timer from Chris Gallagher, his 6th goal of the season. But Pats Goalie Jesse Gonazles denies the spiders the rest of the way as the Patriots regain control of 3rd place. Gonzales has won 15 straight I league games….that’s gotta be a record.

Los Komets 5 Shockers 1
Komets went on a hockey jihad against the scrappy Shockers in their biggest margin of victory in franchise history. The stingy Komets D only allowed the Shockers 7 shots on the night. The Komets got their “game winner” from Sean Kier, while Alex Adkins, Gerald Kappers, Melissa Ross, and Rich Duval also added goals in a game of simple domination. Shockers did have a couple chances and were able to get a goal from Otto Bleiss. This team should continue to get better especially into next session. Shockers drop to 1-6 in their young existence, while the Komets continue to gel and improve to 4-3. As quoted by a member of the Fugaweez, “Fear the Komets”.

True.com 5 Blue Devils 2
True.com continues to shock and awe the league as they are winners of 3 of their last 5. T.C. (we are too lazy to type the full abbreviation), built a 4-0 lead in the first period by getting 2 goals from David Benson while Jason Bellows and Bryan Perry also added scores for the early lead. In the 2nd period the Blue Devils looked to make a response by cutting the score to 4-2 by getting goals from Chris Zolle and Terry Newman. But True.com dashed any hope as Tim O’Donnell lit the lamp to re-gain the 3 point lead. A scoreless third period then followed. We talked to some BDs after the game, they were downtrodden, but not defeated. Beer must have been real cold.

Stingers 6 Wolverines 1
What the heck man!? Stingers apparently owned the 2nd period against the shorthanded wolverines (9 skaters). The Kick Arse Jersey’ Stingers drew first blood from Ronald Widdman while the wolverines stuck back 11 seconds later from Chris Conner. Then late in the second, the wheels came off for the wolverines. Rick White and Jason Isham both struck to make the score 3-1 Stingers and it just got progressively worse for wolverine fans. White got his second goal of the night as did Widdman while Josh Briscoe also got one in the plundering of the W’s. Coach Bobby Sirkis Jr comments on the game: “#&$@#”

Puckers 3 Brewzers 1
Puckers win their 3rd straight with a nice win in this one. Brewzers got the first one from Ken early in the first. Late in the first, lucky puckers got 2 goals from and Rob Constantine for the 2-1 lead. He would then get his 2nd of the night midway through the third for the 3-1 advantage. Puckers Goalie “Doug”? stops 13 of 14 shots on the night. While Matt Moore for the Brewzers stops 18 of 21.

Fugaweez 2 Ice Holes 1
I League Game of the Night Part II featured another classic Fugaweez game. Fugs needed a win plus a Pats win over the Spiders to punch their ticket to the keg game. Fugaweez got the 1-0 lead on a Derrick Tillemons goal in the 2nd. In the 3rd Steve Junker hits the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1, when late in the third (again) the Fugs find some later game heroics, this time from Scott Dolbee to get the 2-1 lead, which would hold up for the final. A battle of goalies was fought as Bobby Michaelides stops 12 of 13 while Ice Holes Netminder David Giesecke stops 8 of 10. More on the Keg later…

Stickmen 3 Snipers 0
The Stickmen played normal stickmen hockey in this one. Goals from Luke Scheeinfurth, Tim James and Ken Halford as the Stickmen pretty much never had anything to worry about in this one, only giving up 10 shots on the night. Un-officially, the Stickmen should be far enough ahead on tiebreakers to clinch their spot in the keg, we must verify with Knute.

The Keg game: So with all said and done, the Fugs are in and the Stickmen are 99.9% in, awaiting the blessing of Knute.
Fugs own the head to head tie breaker against the Pats, while if the stickmen were to lose next week and the pats win, the Stickmen would have the fewest loss tiebreaker still. This feels like the BCS all over again….

As stated above, nothing is certified until Knute says so.

In other news…..I league/ D League Tournament is Dec. 29-31. More info on that coming soon.

Columnist: Go back to wooden sticks

This just in from the we-read-it-so-you-don't-have-to department, a Toronto Sun columnist argues that the NHL should ban composite sticks because they've changed the game. Now, the argument goes, any idiot can hit a hard shot, making the game more dangerous and giving defensemen a hard time in transition.

If he thinks anyone can hit a hard shot with a composite, this columnist obviously hasn't watched an I-league game.

Discuss amongst yourselves ... any of you folks still use wood?

Weekly D-League Update

We're sorry to have missed last week's post, but we were busy stuffing calories down our throats. No, we didn't eat the entire apple pie. We left a piece for others to share as they saw fit. As it turns out, we hate holidays because a bunch of kids take over our rinks. Bah, humbug.

Highlights from action during the week of Nov. 13:

Hitmen 6, Blue Devils 3: This wasn't as close as the score indicates. The Hitmen had their way with the BDs. How solid was this victory? Thirteen different Hitmen were credited with goals or assists. None had more than a point.

Wolverines 6, Phantoms 1: Bobby Sirkis and Jason Isham each had two goals. Hey guys, tell the scorekeepers how to spell your names.

Yokels 5, Ice Dogs 4 (OT): All the Yokels' goals were by the Hurst Boys, Jason and Jeff. Jason had four goals in regulation on assists from Jeff (two others got credited for second assists). Jeff had the game-winner in the last minute of overtime.

Kings 4, Beerflyers 1: Moe Rodriguez scored twice as the Kings turned it on in the first period with four goals. We didn't see this one, but it must have been some great goaltending by the Kings' Scott Lawson. He faced 39 shots and gave up only the one, by Chris Ratzer in the third. The Kings had just 17 shots. It was the Beerflyers' first loss.

Misfits 4, Hockey Team 3 (shootout): This one went deep into the shootout. More than once through the order, that's what we heard. Anyway, the winner was scored by Chadwick Rice. Jolly good, Chaddy. It was the first defeat for Hockey Team, and Misfits emerged as the last unbeaten, untied team. Scott Skurdalsvold had two goals and an assist for HT.

Mid Cities 4, Stickmen 1: This one looks to have been over by the third period. Matt Vinson had a pair for the Mid Cities boys. Steve McCollister might have had an off night for Stickmen. The four goals he surrendered came on just 10 shots.

This week's games (all gametimes ... too f-in late):
Wednesday
Blue Devils vs. Phantoms
Yokels vs. Mid Cities
Thursday
Stickmen vs. Kings
Friday
Hitmen vs. Ice Dogs
Wolverines vs. Hockey Team
Misfits vs. Beerflyers (should be the game of the week)

See you on the ice, dawgs.

Inter-Starcenter Games for I league....

The question was recently brought forth to us at the BLOG of....
"Are you interested in playing two games against other DPSC I-League teams?" in some sort of inter-league play during our normal 9 game session. Possibly a "Home-Home" type thing.
Several players have voiced their support for this....we are officialy asking all those in the league if they are Yea or Nay on the issue.

We dont know if it would be an added 2 games (thus I league cost would probably go up again) or if 2 of our 9 games would be inter-league. While we're on the subject....anyone know if the other I leagues in the metro. have Standings/League Champions ect?
If they do....perhaps an Metropolitan I Leauge Championship?

So voice off here and/or get your Coordinators to tell Knute.

That is all.

I league Week 6: Controversies erupt...

A Very Controversial Week 6 unfolded on Saturday as we saw a couple key goals not counted in some games, a Game Protest, OT and Shootouts, and tons of chaos in the standings. 2 games left….6 teams still in the running for the 2 keg spots.

Snipers 3 Stingers 2 OT
Snipers get their first win of the season on Jesse Henderson’s OT goal (from what we can tell on the stat sheet). From the looks of it, some tempers flared in this one. 17 shots per side in this one. Snipers other two goals from Andrew Julian and Alex Eyesermans. Stingers two goals came from 2 dudes whose names we can’t read….we look to the people for answers.

Spiders 5 Blue Devils 4
Blood was shed on the ice in this one. We hope Chris Gallagher is feeling better. In this offensive showdown, rumors are flying that there was a goal not counted for the Blue Devils that the refs missed. Both squads were tied at 3-3 going into the third. Mike Lambert had the hat trick while Pete Clark had the winner for the shorthanded Spiders, whose keg dreams are still alive. Irvin Manato had the Spiders’ other tally. We know that whenever the Spiders scored in this one, the BD answered right back. Blue Devils got 2 goals apiece from Ray Workman and Terry Newman.

True.com 5 Fugaweez 4
Fugs saw their undefeated season come to an end as True.com pulls the upset in this one in a slug fest of goals. 13 penalties in this game, wow. One even coming at the same time a goal was scored….Dallas Lehr = Terrell Owens? The game see-sawed back in forth with the fugs answering every goal true.com put in. We have heard another “phantom” goal was not counted in this one for True.com…what’s up with the refs? But the real drama occurred with 6 seconds left in the game as Matt Bailey buries his third of the night. Other True.com goals from Tim O’Connell and Jason Bellows. Fugaweez got goals from Carl Moser, Craig Newland, Matt Osborne and the above mentioned Dallas Lehr.

Puckers 4 Komets 1
Now for the controversy of the night….the results in this one are still pending, as the Komets are officially protesting this game.
According to a Komet’s Spokeman, the protest is concerning a possible Illegal C League sub for the Puckers…We’ll let Knute figure this one out. But as for this game Kevin Luchenhoff gets this hat trick for the lucky puckers to snap the Komets winning Streak. Rob Constantine with the puckers “game winner” on the night. Komets lone goal game from Scott Baldree on the Dustin Nation assist.
We’ll keep you informed of pending litigation…..But the standing do reflect a Puckers victory.

Brewzers 1 Shockers 0
Only one goal in this one coming in the first period for a guy named “Stephen”. Wow...(powerdown on scorekeepers). Mike Moore for the Brewzers and Chris Duran for the Shockers both had stellar games with Moore stopping 13 of 13 while Duran kicked aside 14 of 15. There’s so little on the statsheet, we’ll even list the one penalty in this game: Brewzer’s own Britt Brestrom got sent to the sin bin for tripping in the third period.

Ice Holes 3 Patriots 1
The Surging Ice Holes pull the upset on this one in a very un-patriotic game. Pats, who were without Jesse Gonzales, surrendered 25 shots on the night while only putting up 7 shots of their own. Patriots were up 1-0 going into the third thanks to the Butch Hutchinson goal. But the Ice Holes would knot it at 1-1 on a Jared Junker score. It appeared we were headed for OT but with 1:34 left, Nicholle Palomar lit the lamp for the Ice Holes Advantage. The Empty netter just made the game formal as Jared Junker got his second of the night. Tough Loss for the Patriots who could have made up ground against Fugs and Stickmen, now have to win and get help to get into the keg. Ice Holes on the other hand are on fire and are right there in the keg mix with a colossal game against the Fugaweez on Dec. 2nd.

Wolverines 1 Stickmen 0 (Shootout)
Dallas Lehr gets the shootout winner for the shorthanded Wolverines. Stickmen regain first place against the Fugaweez based on tiebreakers though. This was a goaltending fiesta as Steve McColister for the Stickmen kicked aside 24 of 24 before the shootout, while Wolverines Goalie Chris Duran held perfect on 28 of 28.

Coming Soon: Catch NHL on YouTube

Interesting little item on the wire today says the NHL and YouTube have signed a deal to provide free, daily short-form video (we presume game highlights and such) starting this month. It's the first big-league sport to sign a deal with YouTube but not likely the last. YouTube says it's in negotiations with other sports.

Here's a story on it.

BC

D-League Weekly Update

Last week's results:
Misfits 7, Phantoms 2: The Misfits got out to a 5-0 lead, thanks to two goals apiece from Mark Dunning and Harold Cussnick. Cussnick ended up with the hat trick plus four assists. Not bad.
Hockey Team 6, Yokels 4: The Yokels tried to make it interesting with a couple third-period goals, but this was all Hockey Team. Paul Markuson had the hat trick. Hockey Team had 39 shots on goal.

Blue Devils 7, Mid Cities 2: Jim Koeler and James McFarlane each scored a pair in a blowout that the Blue Devils led 5-0 in the middle of the second.

Beerflyers 7, Stickmen 3: Glenn Englehart scored three and Dan Custred had two plus a helper. Garrod Tyler stopped 33 of 36 shots.

Hitmen 8, Wolverines 2: Brian Fisher had a pair of goals as the Hitmen improved to 4-1.

Kings 6, Ice Dogs 1: Mike Sullivan scored twice on Nick Aldi assists.

Yokels 5, Wolverines 3: The Yokels overcame a 3-1 deficit with four unanswered goals, including two in the third period by Paul Gottieb (the last was an empty-netter). Two of the goals came on powerplays, apparently one after a slashing call and another after a body-checking minor. This is the new NHL, fellas. There were 13 penalties in this game.

Week 5: I Leauge

As stated in an earlier comment by one of our loyal readers….. "I league is very competitive this session up and down the board I wouldn’t really say anybody's better than anybody else."
The Standings summarize that point…While there are some teams a little better than others, there were still classic showdowns this weekend……..

*Brewzers Goalie Mike Moore doing some fancy pad work as Lehr and Sandlin look on...

Fugaweez 2 Brewzers 1
A glorious mortal battle ended with the Fugs still undefeated. This probably should be been the I league game of the night, oh well. The Brewzers got the first goal late in the 1st on a Masterful “shot off the face off” from Captain Jamil Jabri, his 7th goal of the season. Lately the brewzers capt, hadn’t made much on the score sheet, but had the brewzers thinking they could end the fugs’ unbeaten streak in this one. Fugaweez were held scoreless till late in the third when Carl Moser hit the back of the twine to even it out at 1-1. With 27 seconds left on the clock, and OT/Shootout looming, Derrick Tillemons shot found its way past net minder Mike Moore, Osborne on the assist. This one looked eerily familiar to the Pats-Fugs game a couple weeks ago. Fugs hold on the top spot with only 3 games to play….

Stickmen 4 Spiders 0
So much for the “I league game of the night”. The shorthanded spiders only put up 10 shots against a stingy Stickmen defense. Stickmen took an early 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back. Tim James had the official game winner of the night off the Larry Wade assist. Ed Vogle, Luke Schwenfurth, and Jesse Henderson also tacked goals on the night. Stickmen now have sole control of second place and a possible Championship showdown with the Fugaweez on December 16th.

Patriots 2 Snipers 1
Once again the Patriots played their style of hockey by scoring early and playing pretty much rock solid defense through the rest of the game. The Finnish Hockey Wizard Antii Sivulla struck again for the Pats to give them the 1-0 lead in the first. Rahul Sharma then lit the lamp in the second to give the Patriots a nice 2 goal cushion going into the third. Snipers, who are still unbelievably winless, got a goal from Big Joe Tomme to renew to snipers’ hopes of a comeback. Patriot's goalie Jesse Gonzales denied any further snipers attempts at tying the game. Pats still have a shot at the keg by being only 1 point back of the Stickmen for second….this one is going to be close….

Blue Devils 1 Shockers 0
We heard this one was a thriller. Only one goal in the night, which came in the 2nd period off of Scott Speelman’s stick. Goalies on both sides were spectacular with Shockers goalie Chris Duran stopping 16 of 17, while Terry Redmond for the Blue Devils turned aside all 14 shots he faced. Blue Devils keep climbing the standings, while the Shockers still seem to be just off on the timing…we’re pullin for ya lads.

Komets 5 True.com 2
The Komets have won back to back games!? OH SNAP!
The surging Komets had an offensive explosion thanks to the Baldree-Nation-Kappers line, a total of 10 points on the night for that He-Man group....yikes! Scott Baldree got the hat trick while Gerald Kappers and Melissa “Smurfette” Ross found the back of the net. Dustin “Jolly Green Giant” Nation with 3 assists on the night. On the flip side, True.com had chances abundant: 2 Posts and 2 goals (too bad this isn’t horseshoes eh?). The always dangerous David “Awesome Skates” Benson lit the lamp while Matt Bailey added another. Komets Goalie Brent Bryant once again stood on his head kicking aside 22 of 24 shots. The Franchise best start for the komets continues…

*The Total Eclipse looks on while stylin'

Puckers 2 Stingers 1
The Puckers have found their winning ways yet again with a close edging out of the Awesome Uniform Stingers (see above)…we aren’t kidding either…they kick arse. Dallas Lehr had a goal and an assist on the night for the lucky puckers while Kevin Leichenhoff had the game winner late in the second. The Stingers got their goal from John Hardin. All three goals coming in the 2nd period…interesting. We don’t have a shot total for the 3rd….looks like the scorekeep feel asleep or just hit the bar early….we are guessing door number 2...

Ice Holes 4 Wolverines 1
This game was rather….interesting. The Wolverines scored 4 times in this game…except 2 of those was in their own net…powerdown…..Goals for the Ice Holes from a Mysterious “Number 2” who isn’t listed on the roster, while Jason Junker had the other 2 for the Ice Holes….Wolverines actually out shot the opposition 15 to 13, but could only get 1 by Ice Holes goalie David Giesecke. Greg Mersberger had the lone wolverines’ goal.

Stars Practice at Euless Rink

Zooby, Mo, Lindros, they were all there. Here's a tiny sample. --BC

Even Big Mo Needs Passing Drills

We snuck up on Mike Modano during Saturday's practice at the Euless rink and took this pic with our super-decoding secret pencam. It's evidence that even Big Mo needs passing drills. Those of you who slept in Saturday (past noon; we know who you are, Dancing Hippo) missed a great time.

I league Week 5 Preview/Point Leader

Week 5: "Seperation Saturday" occurs this weekend as the standings will be shaken up after some key matchups.....

Komets vs True.com 8pm (Gold)
Beginning of the Season, no one would have really thought this to be a game of importance, not to mention a game where Viking-like battles would ensue. But think again…Both teams want to prove the league wrong…a win would be huge for both squads.

Blue Devils vs Shockers 8:15 (Green)
Blue Devils trying to rebound from heartbreaker last week. Shockers look to play spoiler to the BDs.

Stickmen vs Spiders 9:15 (Gold)
I league Game of the Night
2 teams looking to gain foothold on second place and possibly first? Both teams offenses and Defenses will have their work cut out for them in this game. Should really be a good game…..pictures would be appreciated.

Patriots vs Snipers 9:30 (Green)
Snipers just want a win. Patriots just want to put more than 1 in the net.

Brewzers vs Fugaweez 10:30 (Gold)
This has the makings of a great game. Fugs win…they’re magic number is like down to 1 or 2 for the keg game, who knows. Brewzers win……the whole standings would be more screwed up than the BCS. Chaos would abound.

Wolverines vs Ice Holes 10:45 (Green)
Ice Holes trying to find themselves. Bobby Sirkis Jr is trying to find his flask on the bench.

Stingers vs Puckers 11:45 (Gold)
A win by the stingers means more Standing insainity. BRING IT ON!!!

I League Midseason Report.

So halfway through this glorious session, the question on everyone’s mind is…WHO WILL PLAY FOR THE KEG?

Unlike last session, pretty much every team give or take a couple still have an outside chance at making the prestigious Keg game. (last season it was a competition of 4 awesome teams, and then there was the rest of the league)…not so this season my friend.

The Top Dogs.

Fugaweez
Meet the Ohio State of I League….heck, they even have the same colors…Fugs have proven themselves to have a pretty good balance of Offense with Lehr, Doc and Sandlin, while on defense, points don’t come easily against Tilly and Co… not to mention goaltending when needed. The most they have scored this season is 3, so we don’t know if that’s the cap, or if they have another gear they haven’t hit yet. Big wins over the Patriots and Blue Devils, in regulation mind you, have been the proving ground for this well oiled machine. Being undefeated so far has put the Fugs in control of their own destiny. We can pretty much assume, unless a meltdown happens, Fugs will have the top spot, let the battle for 2nd begin….

Stickmen
With the Fugaweez seeming to be making all the noise, no one really noticed the Stickmen up there undefeated until last weekend, with the lowest GAA in the league. This is a stingy team much like the Fugaweez and Patriots. However the shocking loss to the Stingers in the Shootout may make some question this team’s resolve in tight games.

Spiders
Speaking of under the radar…this team came out of no where and is practically tied for 2nd place. A lot of people didn’t expect much from this team, especially after losing Rahul Sharma after last session. The come from behind win against the Wolverines has provided a spark for the spiders who just came off a trouncing of the Ice Holes. With momentum shifters in Chris Gallagher, Alex Atkins, and Patti Greco, this team is never out of a game. Like all the top spots in the league, this team can score, protect a lead, and goaltending to come up big when needed.

Patriots
Losing John Ellis was bad, but Picking up Jesse Gonzales made things well again. The Patriots really haven’t changed a whole lot from last session: Playing tight Defense led by Les and Sabrina York as well as Hockey Whore Rahul Sharma, scoring at the last minute, as well as having excellent goaltending. Goal Scoring has been a slight problem with only 7 goals so far, but little is much when Defense abounds. The Pats did lose a couple players in the transition of sessions, but at the same time, picked up speedy Phantom’s forwards Bryan Brookman and Nate Hodges, while still keeping excellent forward attack in Butch Hutchinson, Steve Benefield, and Co. This team has the weapons and talent to make it to the keg, But they’ll need to score points to get there.

In the Hunt

Stingers
Stingers are in the same position they were last session…..In the hunt…Goaltending by Dana “Total Eclipse” Fanili has always been a key to their success. Scoring from the random appearing Jason Isham as well as a couple other regular stingers, the Junker family, makes some think this team could actually pull off a couple wins and be there come mid december. With only 1 Regulation loss, this team knows how to play close games, and how to win them too.

Brewzers
With their Big wins to start the Season, some though the Brewzers would be off and running to their 2nd keg in 3 seasons. But 2 back to back losses have some thinking maybe not. Captain Jamir Jabri, after his 1st game tear has yet to really put anything on the board, even though he still leads the league in goals and points, and unless someone really breaks out, he will win the scoring title this session…..Yea, we just kinda randomly invented that just now….This team needs a big win and fast if its going to stay in competition with the herd running for the top 2 spots in the conference.

Got a Long Shot…

Blue Devils
Never Count Diablo Azul out of any scenario until they are officially out of contention. Blue Devils have shown to have offensive abilities, as shown in their 8-1 blow out of the Komets, but also have the ability to hang close with the top runners, evident in their 2-1 loss to the Fugs. Many would have though the departure of Mike Drago and company to D league would have spelt the end for the BD, but they’ve rallied, led big time by their Goalie Mike Redmond. If BD gets on a roll…fear them….one wonders…if Blue Devils make the Keg….would Blog Captain return for one last game with his old I League Mates?

Wolverines
After dropping their first two, Head Coach Bobby Sirkis Jr was upset. Now he can drink with a smile knowing that his team is in contention. 2 straight solid wins have some thinking the first couple of losses were flukes, which they might have been. Low bench numbers have always plagued the wolverines, but have always managed to find ways to win games. With scoring threats from Mustberger, the Ever Dangerous Conner Brothers as well as Robert Sirkis Sr, this team can turn on scoring at will and shut teams down as well. Goaltending from Chris Duran has always been amazing. If anyone is looking for a team on Fire (besides the fugaweez) here you go.

Ice Holes
This team confuses us. After going on a 7 game win streak from last session into this one, we thought we had a keg contender. But after a couple heart breakers, we the managment, don't know what the heck to think. The Ice Holes are the enigma of the I League. They've won the keg twice so they know how to get there, question is can they win their next 4 in a row?

Komets
Do you believe in Miracles? After starting the season being blanked by the Fugaweez, Komets’ fans across America braced for the worst…then celebrated when beating the Snipers….then came crashing back to reality in the slaughter by the Blue Devils….But with a shootout win over the Brewzers…..is it possible this team has gelled and is moving forward? Speed and Scoring opportunites exist with Scott Baldree, Dustin Nation, and Mike Gallagher. Goaltending this session has been 100% improved from last session with some of the saves goalie Brett Bryant has made. Evident in his perfection in the shootout, some think that this could have sparked something in the Komets…..The NCAA Tourney had George Mason…..The Euless I league has the Komets…..

Almost There

True.com
David Benson is a warrior. This team isn’t the new kid on the block anymore. The team, while a keg may be out of the question this session, next year….watch out. After pushing the Patriots to the verge of defeat, some wonder if true.com still has another gear they haven’t hit yet. With some solid defense behind them, true.com could play the role of spoiler this session, then raise havoc next season. Also, we want to know if they plan on getting a mascot anytime soon.

Struggling

Puckers
Not the best start the lucky puckers wanted. But the talent is there. Technically they aren’t out of the keg yet, but hopes are fading very quickly. Have the puckers ever made it close to the keg? We don’t know. But they have the options to hit the back of the net with the Lehr Brothers always a threat. Not to mention half the fugaweez team plays on this team, so enough said right there.

Shockers
A really good bunch of guys, however have just come a tad bit short in some of their losses. Chris Duran always comes to play in net. He has had a couple of bad breaks here and there. Many didn’t expect much from this new team, but with each and every game played, this team gels a little more. Fear this team next session.

Snipers
This is just an unfortunate start for the snipers. We know this team has just been the recipient of some bad bounces, but 0-4. ouch. Keg title is mathematically impossible. Start Rebuilding and hope for better bounces next season is all the management can say. Probably the best winless team ever to exist. We don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but this team is competitive.

So The Main Prediction:
Keg Game: Fugaweez vs Patriots…(patriots get in on tiebreakers)

I League Week 4: Fugaweez Rise to First.

We have reached the half way marker of the season with 4 down and 4 to go before playoff night. And low and behold, one team has taken control of 1st place…..at the same time, glorious battles ensued…3 Shootouts and a couple of close ones……

Fugaweez 2 Blue Devils 1
In the I league “game of the night” this was a biblical showdown of Good vs Evil….you decide who was who. A scoreless game till the third when James Deboro drew first blood for the Blue Devils on a Dan Glien Assist. Fugaweez retaliated right back on a goal from Chuck Dolbee. The score remained 1-1 on what we heard was an amazing third period, until Dallas Lehr hit the game winner from Dolbee with 42 seconds left. Fugaweez are now in control of 1st place officially at the halfway marker. Goaltending was phenomenal in this one. Mike Redmond stopped 18 of 20 while Bobby Michaledos stopped 12 of 13 on the night. What a game…

Wolverines 4 Snipers 2
Wolverines head coach Bobby Sirkis Jr gets his first win at the helm as the wolverines won this one 4-2. Greg Mersberger got two goals on the night, while the Conner brothers both put one in the back of the net. Snipers, who still are winless, got goals from Kyle Largent and Tom Buckner. Towards the end of this one, wolverines just dominated play.

Spiders 4 Ice Holes 0
Swami prophesied correctly on this one. Spiders dominated play in their 1st shutout of the season. A quartet of spiders scored in this one: Chris Gallagher scored his 5th goal of the season, while Mike Lambert, Jerrod Roberson, and Kris Navarre also scored. Spiders moved up tied for 2nd place and probably are the most underrated team in the League….more on that later in the week...

Stingers 2 Stickmen 1 (Shootout)
Stingers goalie Dana Fenili brought the total eclipse in this one, shutting the undefeated stickmen down in a shootout. Rick White for the Stingers and Alex Eyesermans for the stickmen had the regulation goals. Scott Childern’s had the shootout winner. Fenili stopped 18 of 19 as the Stingers look to crawl their way back into Keg Contention.

Patriots 1 True.com 0 (Shootout)
This was a typical Patriots win. Stingy Defense and Turconian Goaltending won it for the Pats who only allowed 7 shots for true.com, who fought with honor. We had a good view of this one and True.com would not be a push over. Pats Goalie Jesse Gonzales had several larcenous saves that would make Stars commentator Daryl “Razor” Ray cry and hide in a corner. Props must be given to True.com goalie Don Inmann who stopped 20 of 20 before going into the shootout. Finnish Hockey Wizard Antii Sivulla got the game winner for the Patriots in the shootout.

Komets 2 Brewzers 1 (Shootout)
Komets are off to the best start in Franchise History with a 2-1 shootout win over the Brewzers. Nate “Little Ball of Hate” Hodges had the shootout winner while Brett Bryant stopped all three of the Brewzers attempts in the SO. Goals in Regulation by “Dave” for the Brewzers and Rich Duval for the Komets. This was an epic struggle as both teams went back and forth on the attack. Komets are 1-0 in shootouts...could they be the "stars" of the shootout?….find out next week. Brewzers on the other hand need a win next week to hop back into the Keg Mix.

Shockers 4 Puckers 3.
We heard the final in this one was 5-4…but the score sheet says 4-3. Someone want to clarify? The Shockers get their first win of the session by beating the lucky puckers in what looked to be a hard fought battle. Shockers got goals from John Vance, Unknown, Bryan Conner, and Otto Bielss. Puckers Kevin Luechenhof, Travis Lehr, and Rich Gregory all lit the lamp in the losing cause.

Coming later this week…..Midseason Report: Who will Skate the Keg in December?
We can say this much….Tie Breakers are going to be a Beating…

Week 3: I League

Games this weekend were memorable....

Fugaweez 2 Patriots 1
The I League Game of the Night, was just as everything it promised to be. This was a Friggin Hockey Game.
Pats saw the return of John Ellis to the net, and it almost was a glorious return for the Sultan of Saves. The Patriots struck first with a goal from Jeff Vaughn. It didn’t last to long as the Fugs struck back on a Dallas Lehr goal. Checking and Hitting was an often occurrence in this one. The Fugaweez then lit the lamp on Lehr's VERY CONTROVERSIAL second goal of the night late in the 3rd for the 2-1 win. The Pats, who were missing several key players, were baffled by random skate breakages as well as stick snappage, not to mention sheer exhaustion from the “Checking THUGaweez", almost pulled off the win. The Fugs hadn’t really faced anyone this season who was a “Keg Contender” but they showed their stuff proudly Saturday night.
Fear the Fugaweez.
But Tremble at the Pissed Off Patriots.

True.com 4 Shockers 3
This was a see-saw battle between two teams looking for their first ever win. True.com took a 2-0 lead into the 2nd when the Shockers answered with two of their own from Jason Howell and Nate Hodges. Both teams then traded strikes: David Benson for True.com and Bryan Voskuil for the Shockers, to go into the 3rd tied at 3-3. It wasn’t until midway through the 3rd, True.com got the game winning goal from Benson, the guy had 2 goals and an assist on the night.

Stickmen 4 Puckers 1
This game got out of hand early, with a quick 3-0 Stickmen lead. Puckers managed a shorthanded goal from Kevin Luechenhoff, but couldn’t hit the twine the rest of the night. Alex Exermans. Tim James, Ed Vogle, and Jim O’Reilly had the goals for the undefeated stickmen.

Blue Devils 8 Komets 1
Wow.
Well, the Komets’ Cinderella story was trampled upon rather harshly with a solid Blue Devils win. Scoring for the Blue Devils….Dan Glein had the hat trick, Dave Logging scored twice, while Clint Wacker, James Deboro, and Terry Neuman also lit the lamp. Komets tried to rally in the second trailing 3-0 with a goal from Dustin Nation, but the spunky komets just couldn’t get the bounces.

Wolverines 5 Brewzers 1
Dallas Lehr wasn’t exactly done when he finished his Fugaweez game. He came right back and buried Four more during the Wolverines smothering of the undefeated brewzers (we hope the statsheet is correct). What the heck man!? The loan Brewzers goal from Lori-Kay Fromman (SP!!!).

Spiders 3 Snipers 2
Penatlies abounded from the Snipers, apparently, hooking was the Refs favorite call of the night. The Spiders struck once in the first then twice in the second, goals coming from Chris Gallagher, Chrisi Shere and Aurin Manalo. While the winless Snipers, who fought viciously, got goals from Alex Eysermans and Jesse Henderson.

Ice Holes 5 Stingers 4 (Shoot Out?)
Rumor has it this game went deep into the shootout…14 Freaking Shooters to be exact...The Scoresheet was incomplete. We don’t even know who got the 4th goals for both sides, not to mention who had the Shootout goal……we look to our loyal readers to provide us with something…We do know that there were 13 penatlies in this game….geez. Scoring on the night (from what we have) for the Stingers: “Roland”, illegible, and Josh Briscoe. Ice Holes goals from Mike Skupien, Jared Junker, and Steve Junker.

Oct. 28 Games...Preview

Scheduling change occurred because of a Puckers vs Fugaweez match up…..Here’s sat’s games, officially blessed from Knute.

7:45 pm: Shockers vs True.com (Gold)
-Battle of Winless Teams….Shockers looked good against the fugaweez, we’ll see if they can get the W this week.

9pm: Puckers vs Stickmen (Gold)
-This game was originally suppose to be the Puckers vs Fugaweez….then people demanded a change…we wont say who of course…..Stickmen trying to stay perfect on the season and haven’t given up a goal yet.

10pm: Blue Devils vs Komets 10pm (Green)
-Komets spunky win last week has many thinking a Cinderella story is being written. BD, who had a tough lost last week, need a win to stay in the hunt.

10:15pm: Spiders vs Snipers (Gold)
-Spiders trying to make it 2 in a row and be among the serious contenders for the keg. Snipers trying to avoid going 0-3.

11:15 pm: Patriots vs Fugaweez (Green)
-I League Game of the Night.
-Ultimate showdown of Ultimate Hockey Destiny faces off two 2-0 Teams. Pats were suppose to play the Stickmen…..perhaps a dodging of a bullet? Who knows….We know of one Patriot who is hungry for another shot at the Fugs…..Fugaweez are trying to continue their "Payback" season, while the Pats are said to be "Licking Their Chops" for this game.

11:30 pm: Stingers vs Ice Holes (Gold)
-They may be a total eclipse this night…..Ice Holes try to start another 7 game winning streak.

12:30 am: Wolverines vs Brewzers (Green)
-Sunday Morning Hockey
-Wolverines Coach Bobby Sirkis tries to avoid going 0-3 as his squad takes on the undefeated Brewzers.

Week 2: I league Results...

Great games this weekend as we saw several teams stay undefeated, several close games, as well as an OT game…
Btw….We are missing stat sheets from Fugs/Shockers, Patriots/Stingers, and True.Com/Puckers….so if anyone has them….we need em ASAP.No Scoresheets….No Great Stats…We did get the Puckers/True.com summary up....

Here’s what we can piece together

Patriots 3 Stingers 2
Patriots got revenge from their shootout loss last session with a solid win to remain undefeated. Pats looked solid on both Defense and Offense by getting goals from Rahul Sharma, Steve Benefield and Butch Hutchinson. Stingers got an even strenghth goal as well as a Power play strike, but we don’t have names on the guys……Stat Sheets people…..

Fugaweez 3 Shockers 2
Again, no Stat sheets. This is all we know: Kent “Doc” Taub had 2 scores for the Fugs, while Nate “Little Ball of Hate” Hodges took one coast to coast for the Shockers. Goalies Chris Duran and Bobby Michaelides both had excellent performances. Oh, and the Fugaweez are 2-0.

Spiders 5 Wolverines 4
This was an Epic Struggle of Biblical Proportions. The shorthanded Wolverines (9 skaters) dominated the first two periods against a Spiders bench which was abundant with players (15). Wolverines established a 3-1 lead going into the third with goals from Robert Gullinese, Nate Hodges, and Bob Kerace. However the Spiders rallied, partly due to an exhausted wolverines squad, with 4 goals. Two goals coming from Chris Gallagher, while Bryan Conture and Linda Mason added tallies. Wolverines tried to answer back with Greg Mersberger lighting the lamp, but not enough. Goalies Chris Duran for the wolverines and Jeremy Brown, Spiders, had several stellar saves. Excellent game kids....

Stickmen 2 Ice Holes 0
The “I League Game of the Week” was rather a Defensive Struggle with the Stickmen edging out the ice holes 2-0. Stickmen only put up 17 shots while the Ice Holes only managed 6 shots. Goals by Jesse Henderson and Jeff Thomas. Again, correct us if we are incorrect. Stickmen Goalie Steve McCollister has now pitched back to back shutouts.

Puckers 4 True.com 0
Not much is know on this game, only that the Puckers won 4-0. Travis Lehr lit the lamp twice, while Dallas Lehr and "Kevin" both added tallies. Assists are unknown, as is every other bloody stat.

Brewzers 5 Blue Devils 4
This offensive battle was interesting to watch as there were two hat tricks. Brewzers drew first blood with a score from Jamil Jabri (look for his name later). In the second, the Blue Devils got goals from Ray Workman and David Ogle while the Brewzers got one from Dennis Sutton. The Thrid period made Blue Devil fans happy as Workman’s 2nd and 3rd goals of the night hit the back of the net. On the other side of the ice, the Brewzers maintained the tie on goals from Thomas and Jabri. This showdown ended with Jabri getting his hat trick with almost no time left in the third. We can pretty much say the league leaders in Points are in this game.
It has come to our attention that the score sheet was wrong....again...Game never went to OT. Thanks to Jamil for the CORRECT info.

Komets 2 Snipers 1
Yes you read that score correctly. Sunday Morning Hockey may be just what the komets needed to get their first regular season win. The Komets built a 2-0 lead going into the 3rd with goals from Mike Brensahan and Scott “Diminutive Warrior” Baldree. Snipers struck back late in the third on a Power Play goal from Tom Buckner, but couldn’t score again. Komets Goalie Brett Bryant looked sensational with 20 saves on 21 shots.

So as it stands…..Stickmen, Patriots, Fugaweez, and Brewzers remain in the Ranks of the Undefeated.

stats/standings to come when we get all the stuff together....

D-League Results From Friday

Results from Friday night:

Yokels 3, Blue Devils 2: Charlie Jackson's deflection goal was the difference.
Beerflyers 11, Phantoms 1 (ouch): Scott Prusha had six goals and an assist.
Misfits 5, Kings 2: Harold Cussnick and Kenny Pohlman each had two goals. Pohlman also had two assists; Cussnick had one. Looks like a two-man team, this one.

Pointstreak Comes To Life (For D-League, Anyway)

Pointstreak is starting to be updated for D-League. They haven't quite gotten around to inputting last week's games, but they'll get there. Actually, they haven't put in the league schedule yet, either. Or even rosters. Not even all of this week's games. They'll get there. Eventually.

There is this tidbit, though. ...

Tonight, it's the Panthers vs. the Hitmen at 10:15 p.m. and the Stickmen vs. the Wolverines at 10:30 p.m.

As for why I-League isn't on Pointstreak, quit asking. We haven't a clue. Our best guess is that the rosters are too fluid in I-League for it to work well.

Hey, anybody interested in a little pickup tomorrow morning? 7 a.m. at the Euless rink. Leave us a comment.

Week 1: Goalies/Points

We are going to TRY and do Stats again, not to mention try Goalie Stats. It sounds crazy, but hey...the sooner I league goes to pointstreak the better.....speaking of which....why isnt it working for D League, ect!?!??!?!?

Week 1 Standings

Week 1: I League

Opening night for I League began, with many entertaining games, one even going into Overtime. We are going to try and keep stats this session as well as try something new with Goalie Stats. Hey, let’s hope for good stat keeping. On to the games…..

Patriots 2 Wolverines 0
First game of the fall session featured a great struggle between Goalies Chris Duran of the Wolverines and Jesse Gonzales for the Patriots. We had a good view of this one, great back and forth action from both squads. Bryan Brookman had a goal and an assist, while “Hockey Whore” Rahul Sharma added the Pats second tally of the night. Gonzales stopped all 14 shots he faced.

Brewzers 3 True.com 2
A Heartbreaker for team True.com on a late third period goal by “Jamil” (if this lad has a last name, we’d love to know), to complete his hat trick on the night. Carl Lucos had 2 scores on the night for True.com, one of them even shorthanded. From the looks of it, this team will do just fine in the league.

Stingers 3 Spiders 2 (OT)
An excellent game to observe from the crossbar with a cold one in hand. 10 Penalties on the night, so we hope Olson buys that new whistle. Correction: Hockey Warrior Jason Isham knots 2 goals, one of which was the Game Winner, and gets an assist. Rick White also put one in the back of the net for the stingers. Spiders' goals by Patti Greco and Alex Atkins.
If any more corrections are needed, please let us know, we are only hockey players.

Blue Devils 4 Puckers 1
Blue Devils started off the Session with a very confident win over the lucky puckers. Jerry Newman lit the lamp twice while Scott Speedman and David Ogle added scores. The lone pucker goal was put in by Rick Gregory. Blue Devils only threw 13 shots on net, but scored on 4 of them.

Ice Holes 1 Snipers 0
A rematch of last session’s playoff game ended exactly the same with the Ice Holes victorious. A mid third period goal by Steve Junker (from what we can tell on the stats sheet), allowed the Ice Holes to win their 6th straight (dating back to last session). Snipers Goalie Patrick Donaghue, even though took the loss, stopped 35 of 36 shots, while opposing Net minder David Giesecke stopped all 6 shots he faced. We don’t have a “time on attack” stat, but by looking at the shots, we are guessing the Ice Holes dominated this.

Fugaweez 3 Komets 0
The Komets win over grapevine was short lived as the Fugaweez began their “Season of Vengeance”. Komets only trailed 1-0 going into the third when Fugs tallied twice for the 3-0 win. Goals by Matt Osbourn, John Ward and Kyle Overton.

Stickmen 4 Shockers 0
Stickmen score twice in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd to spoil the shockers’ initiation. Kevin Oliver scored twice while Jim O’ Reilly and Dan Lagrone also added a goal each. I guess technically this game was played on Sunday. 12:30am start times are so fun.

Nice Opening night. Stats to come shortly. BAC needs sleep.

Honor: Defended....

Once again, the forces of Euless proved too much for lowly Grapevine, as the Komets were victorious 7-1. A couple other teams were represented in the game with guys from Blue Devils, Fugaweez and Phantoms. This game did have a couple drama moments, but quickly gave way to more Euless scoring.
Diminutive Warrior Scott Baldree got the hat trick while Gerald Cappers, Mike Bresnahan, Mike Gallagher, and Dustin Nation also lit the lamp. Bruce "Old But Not Dead" Frankel had 2 assists. One Komet was quoted on the bench saying "I can't believe it, we are going to win!" Good job guys.
Maybe it's time Euless played another I league.....anyone know if Duncanville or Plano are up for it?

D Results ...

The D-League season opened last night with the Blue Devils hanging on for a 3-2 victory over Mid Cities. Anyone know how the Kings/Ice Dogs game turned out? Pointstreak isn't yet updated with schedule or results. What's up with that?

Tonight: Phantoms make their D-League debut against the Misfits.

Reader question: Jerseys

Reader "anonymous" posts the following comment:
Does anyone have a recommendation for getting team jerseys done? Have you guys gone to someone local or order them online?

Anyone? Anyone?

D-League Starts Tonight

Puck droppage for the fall D-League season is tonight. Knute sent coordinators the 06-07 schedule but cautioned there would probably be changes after the first two weeks. Some basics were confirmed, however.
  • There are 14 teams.
  • Hockey Team did not move up to C despite being virtually unchallenged (21-1-1) over the summer.
  • Blue Devils and Hitmen return to D after having it handed to them in C over the summer.

I Leauge Fall/Winter Session Begins...

It's time for the puck to drop, goals to be scored, rivalries to be renewed. Many are saying last session's drama can't be topped. But with new players and returning players, this fall could provide some interesting matchups. This weekend two new teams emerge and several of last session's playoff games are played again....should be fun.

Wolverines vs Patriots: 7:45pm
Last Meeting: May 06 (has it been that long!?), Wolverines rolled 4-1. Rumors have it Pats are 2-1 favorites to win the keg.

Brewzers vs True.com: 9pm

Spiders vs. Stingers: 10pm
Last Meeting: Summer playoffs, Stingers rolled 2-0. (will there be an eclipse saturday night?)

Blue Devils vs Puckers: 10:15pm
Last Meeting: Another long time coming....April 06....Blue Devils edged out lucky puckers 2-1. Many are saying young talent on Blue Devils is something to watch for.

Snipers vs Ice Holes: 11:15pm
Last Meeting: Summer playoffs with an Ice Holes 1-0 win. Ice Holes also had the most resurgence last session after losing first 4, rattled off 5 consecutive wins.

Komets vs Fugaweez: 11:30pm
Last Meeting: An entertaining last place Summer playoff as the Fugaweez outlast the Komets 5-4. For what its worth, Komets are 100-1 odds to win the keg. (somebody should put some $$$ down, just for the heck of it)

Stickmen vs Shockers (2 pints): 12:30am (coffee will be the sports drink of choice).

Nice Start for Stars

When we fell asleep, the Stars were getting their arses handed to them, but they came alive in the third and Turco hit Sydor with a 70-foot pass to assist on the winning score in OT. Feels like a Stanley Cup season already, eh? ;)

New Rule: No Cheating

Unless you've been off the planet, you've heard by now that the new season brings a whole new standard of officiating. USA Hockey rules are the new standard. This is basically what they started using last year in the NHL.

The bottom line is that defenders will no longer be allowed to impede an offensive player's progress. That means you guys have to skate, too. ;) Expect lots of penalties as the season begins and we all get accustomed.

The StarCenter website puts it this way:

"The day of the slasher and hacker is gone. Skating and playing the puck is the name of the game. USA Hockey and the Dr Pepper StarCenters will be enforcing the rules against stick play to the body, holding with the free hand and any and all types of interference. Expect a learning curve in all leagues this season as the referees have all been thoroughly trained to enforce the rules 100%. It has been rumored that Scotty 'double vision' Olsen bought his first new whistle in 50 years for the upcoming season. Keep two hands on the stick, keep the stick on the ice, and play the puck. If not, Chris DeBaene or Cliff Shaw may be your next best friend."

There's a good 13-minute demonstration video on the new rules at:

Early Bird Skates

There's word of early-bird flashmobs forming at the Euless rink (7 a.m. Thursday, sticknpuck) and Farmers Branch (7 a.m. Friday, dropin).

Be there or suck at hockey.

Finally, Hockey Season

Finally, hockey season is here. Show of hands: Who's leaving work early to catch the early games?

Anyway, the nation's best newspaper at covering the NHL -- USA Today -- has an awesome 12-page special section today. Some of the highlights, as they pertain to your Dallas Stars:
  • None of the seven expert panelists pick the Stars to win the Pacific. It's either Anaheim or San Jose. Two picked Anaheim to win the Cup. Two others picked Buffalo. In today's Dallas Morning News (www.dallasnews.com ; there's a nice one-page league analysis on 8C), beat writer Mike Heika picks the Stars to finish sixth in the west and win a first-round series against Anaheim before losing to San Jose. At least it's not the Avs, who he predicts to miss the playoffs. The Star-Telegram's David Sessions picks the Stars fourth in the west.
  • Reporter Kevin Allen calls Turco the fifth-best goalie in the league, "although some might take a rising star" such as Cam Ward, Ryan Miller or Henrik Lundqvist. His top four are Brodeur, Kiprusoff, Luongo and Vokoun.
  • Allen, asked who's the best all-around U.S.-born forward, says Mike Modano can "still be the best show in the big top."
  • Two of seven panelists say Pittsburgh will "make the most noise" this year among teams that missed the playoffs a year ago. (We know this is not a Stars-related item, but we mention for one Komet who will absolutely hate it. You know who you are.)
  • Preseason odds: Danny Sheridan rates Dallas as 11:1 to win the Cup. Ottawa is the odds leader at 8:1. Anaheim is 12:1. Curious, huh?
  • USA Today's overall prediction for the Stars: Will be less gritty without Arnott and Guerin. Didn't land a big free agent. In sum, "This edition isn't flashy enough to move Terrell Owens off the front of the Dallas sports section. But it's good enough to make the playoffs."
If you can't make it out for a copy of the paper, here's a link:

Questions of the Day: What's your prediction for the Stars? Who wins the Cup?

I League News and Trash Talk....

So low and behold breaking news has erupted from the realms of I League.

First off, Team "2 Pints" is apparently now the "Shockers" Blog Alternate Captain heavily approves of this name !!!!!

Though Team Jihad or Team Blitzkrieg would have worked also.
Good Luck Lads.

Also.....We have learned through various sources that Massive Trash Talking has occurred in the ranks of the Grapevine Camp.
We were able to intercept one of their Transmissions......

....Next week we have our regular Exhibition game against another team from Euless; the Komets. I have been promised there is not a ringer among them; apparently they have not won a regular season game in their league in 2 seasons!.....

I thought we were all part of one big Hockey family?!?!?
