Week 8 Previews

This weekend is the regular season finale before the playoff week next week…

BEHOLD! PREVIEWS OF DOOM!

6:30 Warriors vs Ice Holes

Head Coach Bobby Sirkis was trying to first and foremost beat the Ice Holes last week with the leftovers, he will use his knowledge gained last week to try again with his warriors squad. A win for the Ice Holes is a good thing, but not exactly necessary to get into the keg game. From Coach Siriks, “Ice Holes got lucky last week, I know their weaknesses now”.

6:30 Leftovers vs Spiders

What mercenaries will the spiders bring to bear in this game??? Leftovers may or may not be coached by their inspiration Bobby Sirkis, if not; Nate Hodges may make his coaching debut. From Junior Lindamood about the game, “I feel unstoppable; nothing can hold me back, except this team. I am applying for free agency next season…I want a keg.”

7:45 Puckers vs Black Widows

Black Widows need a win to stay in the keg hunt plus some help. They are capable of beating a capsized Puckers squad, question is, can Tom “Foolery” Yockey A. Get enough players to make up his team and B. Can his team score more than one goal? Find out on Saturday. From Yoc, “I swear if this team doesn’t give me more than four skaters to coach, I am resigning from coaching any team that has to do with an arachnid.”

7:45pm Brewzers vs Stickmen

A must win game for the stickmen, then prayers and hail Marys must be said in order to get the stickmen into the keg game. Brewzers had by far their best game in several seasons last week against a very tough blue devils squad and will see if they can duplicate and spoil another team’s keg hopes, dreams and cotton candy.

9pm Patriots vs Snipers

Patriots again take the ice looking to take a point from the game and secure the top spot in the league. They will have to go against a strong snipers squad composed of mostly stickmen members, bitter from their loss last week to the mighty Patriots. Rumor has it the Patriots are under investigation from the league for taping and stealing other team’s signals during games. All reports are alleged and without merit. We await league management for further comments.

9pm Komets vs Blue Devils

The Blue Devils are pissed off. It’s that simple. However they can make their season if they can force a Komets loss, thereby crushing any komets hope of a keg game. Komets win and they are in the big dance, if not, chaos could erupt in the division as a 3 to possibly 4 way tie of teams could occur. From Ray Workman, “The loss in last season’s keg burns deep within our souls. We will get revenge.”

Week 7 Recaps...

3 stars
1. Rob Mustell: Snipers – 4 goals, 1 assist (Snipers 5-6 SO loss)
2. John Bird: Ice Holes – 2 goals, GWG (Ice Holes 2-1 win)
3. Chris Gallagher: Spiders – 2 goals, GWG (Spiders 4-1 win)

Goalie of the Week: John Ellis: Leftovers – 23 saves on 25 shots – leftovers 1-2 loss

Ice Holes 2 Leftovers 1
Leftovers almost pull the unthinkable as the Ice Holes continue to stay in the hunt for the title game. The Holes got the scoring started in the first with a goal from John Bird for a 1-0 Ice Holes lead. After a second period of no scoring, the Leftovers equalized the game with a goal from Billy Quinn. However with 56 seconds remaining in the game the Holes broke the hearts of Leftover fans everywhere when Bird scored his second of the night on a Jason Pilcher assist. Leftovers’ goalie John Ellies was amazing on the night with 23 saves on 25 shots, while Holes netminder Doug Taylor only faced 8 shots all night, one coming on a leftovers’ break away with under 30 seconds left in the game.

Spiders 4 Puckers 1
Spiders get back on the winning track by a crushing 4-1 win over the puckers. Sure the spiders brought in three mercenaries, but it’s I league right? Chris Gallagher scores twice while Nate Hodges and Andrew Patti both add goals in this one. Puckers got their strike form Rob Constantine on strange mishandle by the Spiders, but spiders’ goalie matt sexton stops all other shots. While Puckers goalie Patrick Donaghue (Snipers??) was obliterated with shots as he faced 37 on the night, wow.

Brewzers 5 Blue Devils 3
Blue Devils just couldn’t get it done, as one BD put it, in this odd upset on the night. Brewzers painted the scoreboard from different players as Brian Flarshart, Pave Ronyon, Steve Sepedo, Paul Thurston, and Paul Gotlieb score. The Evil Empire would try and get going, but just couldn’t get the shots to drop on the night. Blue Devils strikes came from Scott Spellman, Jarrod Robison and Eric Hogentogler. While the loss did knock the Blue Devils out of the championship game, they can still play spoiler to the komets next week.

Patriots 2 Stickmen 0
Patriots pitch their 4th straight shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over David Blubaugh and the Stickmen. This was a scoreless affair almost through two periods as Blubaugh kicked aside shot after shot from the Patriots War Machine Offense. Finaly with 45 seconds left in the second period the great Steve Benefield of the Patriots hammers home a Butch Hutchinson feed for the 1-0 lead. Pats would then add to their lead late in the third on a Greg Helonbrook goal for the insurance marker. Blubaugh was amazing facing 25 shots on the night and making 23 saves. Pats goalie Phillip Talley had a pretty easy night, only facing 8 shots, and knocking them all aside with ease. Patriots close the gap of making another keg game to one point and can get that Saturday against the Snipers.

Black Widows 1 Warriors 0
Once again, the Black widows are involved in another 1-0 game, this time though they happen to be on the winning side. The shorthanded BW once again only like like 3 skaters and had to go summon help from outside help. Turns out to be a winning move as Sergio Castillo off a Chris Gallagher assist is the winning marker. Warriors are officially eliminated from Keg contention with the loss, while the Black Widows, believe it or not, have an outside chance of making that game. Goalies on the night, Bobby Michaelides and Jason Lonneman both had brilliant performances as Michaelides deserved a better fate, facing 16 shots and only letting one past him, while Lonneman faced 11 shots and kicked them all aside.

Komets 6 Snipers 5 (Shootout)
This one was literally a shootout. Both Sides combining for 10 goals in regulation in a game where goaltending and defense were forsaken. Snipers struck first on a Rob Mustell strike only to have that marker erased when Komets’ own Dustin Nation tied the game 15 seconds later. Snipers then went up 2-1 on a Joe Tomme goal, only to have that lead erased on a Komets goal from Bryan Brookman. The first period would come to a conclusion but not before Mustell would score again for a Snipers 3-2 lead going into the second. Alex Atkins would score early in the second for the Komets while Mustell would get his third of the night to go into the third with the game at a 4-3 Snipers advantage. In the third, Snipers scored on Mustell’s fourth goal on the night, however Will Dobson and the Komets’ savior Chris Gallagher score to tie the game. A scoreless OT led to a wild shootout where 16 skaters were shown. Scott Baldree would then score the game winner for the Komets, who still have a chance at the title game.

Summary for Keg game:
-Patriots: 75% chance of making the game. Need a point to clinch
-Komets: 50% …multiple scenarios here, simply put, komet beat BD on sat, they are in.
-Ice Holes: 45%....A loss does not kill the team, but it doesn’t sit well either. A win and a Komets loss puts the holes in, but other scenarios apply….
-Black Widows: 25%...A Komets Loss, Ice Holes Loss, and a win puts the Widows in the game because of a very low GA…providing they don’t get into a high scoring affair.
-Stickmen: 10%...Need a miracle to get in…A Komets Loss, Ice Holes Loss, Black Widows Loss, and a win to get in. Again…all possible, but will it all line up.

There are dozens of more scenarios…we’re tired.

I would like...
