What Happened to Players Bench?

Denizens of the greater Colleyville/Grapevine/Southlake/Bedford area might have noticed the abrupt shutdown of the Players Bench store in Colleyville off Highway 121 and Glade. It happened about a month ago.

Well, according to Bob, the regional manager who works at the Grapevine Mills location, the landlord pulled some shenanigans and gave him just a few days to get the stuff out, saying there was another tenant coming in. Then that tenant backed out, leaving an empty space. (He-he.)

According to Bob, we should look for Players Bench to either open in another location (possibly at the Harwood/121 intersection or thereabouts) or expand the Grapevine Mills shop to carry a full range of gear, including goalie stuff. Or, Bob said, there are some other things he either can't or won't talk about yet.

Developing.

D-League Update

Last week’s results:

Yokels 5, Kings 1: Jeff Hurst and Jeffrey Womack each had two for Yokels. Hurst now has 19 points, including 11 assists.
Misfits 5, Stickmen 1: Ben Ferrell, playing in his first game of the season, scored the hat trick for Misfits. Don Hurt stopped 22 of 23 shots.
Wolverines 4, Phantoms 3: Bobby Sirkis scored the winner with 15 seconds left. Assists went to Jeff Blake and Brian Kapalka. Cory Howard had tied it 3-3 less than a minute earlier with his second goal of the game, giving the improving Phantoms hope for their first victory.
Blue Devils 3, Ice Dogs 2: Mark Johnson scored his second goal with six seconds left as the BDs topped the Ice Dogs. Jim Koehler, who scored the other Blue Devils goal, got the winning assist. Terry Redmon was stellar, stopping 26 of 28 shots.
Beerflyers 6, Hitmen 3: Chris Ratzer had a pair of goals for the Beerflyers. Brian Ratzer added three assists.
Hockey Team 15, Mid Cities 1: Please clear children from the room before reading about this R-rated massacre. … Erik Anderson had four goals and an assist. Nick Strobel had four more. Several others had multi-point games. The shorthanded and Slezak-less Mid-Cities squad was outshot … 49-15. Ouch. Can't blame it on the goalie, who shall remain nameless. And now, a hot sports opinion: You have to wonder about the sportsmanship in this one. HT scored five in the third period, which they entered leading 10-0. Two of those goals were unassisted, which indicates a breakaway goal. We’ve been involved in blowouts where the winning team did a lot of passing in the third period. Did that happen here? We’re just asking …

This week's games:
Wednesday
Phantoms (0-9) vs. Ice Dogs (0-7-1): Somebody's got to win. 10:15 p.m.
Hockey Team (7-0-1) vs. Kings (3-4): 10:30 p.m.
Thursday
Mid-Cities (2-6) vs. Wolverines (5-3-1): 10:15 p.m.
Friday
Misfits (7-1) vs. Yokels (5-4-1): 9 p.m.
Hitmen (6-2) vs. Stickmen (2-5): 10:30 p.m.
Beerflyers (7-1) vs. Blue Devils (6-2): 11:55 p.m. (Inside joke: Dancing Hippo serves breakfast in the bar immediately following the game.)

And then, Merry Christmas. Games will resume Jan. 3.

New Changes for I league

As promised, here are the changes for next season.
most of you should know this by now, but if you have been in a cave, here's what's goin down.

-The League is moving from 14 to 16 teams. Knute has mentioned a couple new teams coming into the league.

-A Gold Division and Silver Division for I league. Whether or not these teams play each other for the keg is unknown...but we hope it works like that.

-A new Stanley Keg has been commissioned and will be unveiled for next season's championships. (we assume 2 keg champions)

-Times have been moved up this season to accomodate more teams and still keep relatively decent slots. Late game will be 1145pm. So we may have said goodbye to sunday morning hockey....HOORAH!

I League Playoff Pairings

Standings confirmed by Knute as well as times and rinks.

also from Knute...

"A Holiday Buffett will be made available from 9pm to Close. We will make sure food is available to those in the late games."

"A Band will start to playing at 9pm in the CrossBar. This is a foursome that plays Blues and Rock. I hope you will show appreciation for them by tipping them during and in between their sets."

"Zero Tolerance for Bad Behavior. For the most part all of you have been exceptional in this but recently at another facility there was some "poor judgment" shown by two players who let their emotions get away with them. This is a night of celebration and to play some hockey. Family members tend to come out on this night and watch and party. As always be on your best behavior!"

Lets have fun Gents...and ladies!

Week 8: I League

Playoff Matches are secured. Many tie breakers were used. Some great games tonight, some total domination games and even some thuging.

Stickmen 4 Brewzers 0
Stickmen take the best record in the league into the Keg game with the Lowest GAA in their 2nd straight shut out. Steph Trapp, Dan Lagrone, Jeff Thomas and Larry Wade had the strikes. Tim James had a couple helpers. Meanwhile Stickmen goalie Steve McCollister had, what looks like, 14 saves on 14 shots. Stickmen will go after their 3rd Keg in Franchise history next week.

Puckers 4 Patriots 2
Patriots charged out of the gate for the 2-0 lead on two Jeff Eagle goals. But there is a reason they say the 2 goal lead is dangerous. The Patriots just pretty much forgot how to play hockey for the 2nd and 3rd periods. Puckers took advantage of a somewhat tired and out of position pats team and rattled off 4 unanswered goals from Guy Riggs, Dallas Lehr, Ron Constantine, and Chris Kirton. Pats goalie Jesse Gonzales fought with honor, but too many mistakes plagued the Patriots. On the other side of the ice, netminder Casey Jenkins had many bounces go his way as he shut the pats down after giving up two goals. Violence ensued at the end of this one, Oh Dear. As requested by both squads, we will say the refing in this one, as well as all the games on the Green Rink was very….unfortunate.

Spiders 5 True.com 4
Chris Gallagher’s goal with 49 seconds left in regulation lifted the Spiders into the 3rd place game next week. This one was an offensive fiesta as the Spiders had a 4-2 lead after the first period. Mike Lambert had the hat trick, from what the score sheet says, while Pete Clark added a tally in the first. True.com kept it close in the opening period with goals form Tim O’Donnell and Melissa Ross. True.com would tie it up in the 2nd with two goals from Jonathan Keith and the always dangerous David Benson. As noted earlier, Gallagher’s goal at the end was the difference maker.

Stingers 3 Blue Devils 2 (SO)
David Edwards wins it for the Stingers as this shootout goes 7 skaters deep per side. In Regulation, Ray Workman and David Ogle had the Blue Devil goals while the Stingers got their two from Scott Childress and Ronald Widmann. Blue Devils Goalie Mike Redmond kicks aside 14 of 16 before the shootout while Greg Carter stops 8 of 10.

Wolverines 9 Shockers 0
This was an absolute thrashing. Probably the most one-sided game of the season. Chris Conner decided to go insane as he gets the hat trick plus 2 helpers. Greg Mersbergher, Nate Hodges, John Pinnar, and Bryan Conner had scores while Trevor Lichty had two goals.

Komets 3 Ice Holes 1
Komets get their revenge from last season’s humiliation by playing one of their best games of the season. Gerrald Kappers' Goal from Nate Hodges gave the Komets momentum 30 seconds into the first. Komets would make it 2-0 in the second period on Melissa Ross’ goal. The Ice Holes, who fought a very physical game struck back on a Michael Crook goal to make it 2-1. Komets responded as a Sergio Castillo point blast was deflected home by Ross for her second of the night. Next to the Puckers, the Komets are probably the team with the most momentum.

Snipers 3 Fugaweez 2
Snipers with a huge upset, makes some wonder if the Fugs are deserving of a Keg Birth, but we think they do. Snipers’ Bill Fitch gets the first for the Snipers from Rob Richards, but the Fugs countered with Matt Osbourne’s goal. Alex Eyesermans gave the Snipers the lead again, but it was to be tied yet one more time on Osbourne’s 2nd score of the night. With 2 minutes left in regulation, Andrew “warrior” St. Julian humbles the Fugaweez for the 3-2 lead. Patrick Donaghue looked turconian on the night by stopping 26 of 28 shots. Fugs will also be going for their 3rd Keg title against the Stickmen next week.
