Week 8: I League

Playoff Matches are secured. Many tie breakers were used. Some great games tonight, some total domination games and even some thuging.

Stickmen 4 Brewzers 0
Stickmen take the best record in the league into the Keg game with the Lowest GAA in their 2nd straight shut out. Steph Trapp, Dan Lagrone, Jeff Thomas and Larry Wade had the strikes. Tim James had a couple helpers. Meanwhile Stickmen goalie Steve McCollister had, what looks like, 14 saves on 14 shots. Stickmen will go after their 3rd Keg in Franchise history next week.

Puckers 4 Patriots 2
Patriots charged out of the gate for the 2-0 lead on two Jeff Eagle goals. But there is a reason they say the 2 goal lead is dangerous. The Patriots just pretty much forgot how to play hockey for the 2nd and 3rd periods. Puckers took advantage of a somewhat tired and out of position pats team and rattled off 4 unanswered goals from Guy Riggs, Dallas Lehr, Ron Constantine, and Chris Kirton. Pats goalie Jesse Gonzales fought with honor, but too many mistakes plagued the Patriots. On the other side of the ice, netminder Casey Jenkins had many bounces go his way as he shut the pats down after giving up two goals. Violence ensued at the end of this one, Oh Dear. As requested by both squads, we will say the refing in this one, as well as all the games on the Green Rink was very….unfortunate.

Spiders 5 True.com 4
Chris Gallagher’s goal with 49 seconds left in regulation lifted the Spiders into the 3rd place game next week. This one was an offensive fiesta as the Spiders had a 4-2 lead after the first period. Mike Lambert had the hat trick, from what the score sheet says, while Pete Clark added a tally in the first. True.com kept it close in the opening period with goals form Tim O’Donnell and Melissa Ross. True.com would tie it up in the 2nd with two goals from Jonathan Keith and the always dangerous David Benson. As noted earlier, Gallagher’s goal at the end was the difference maker.

Stingers 3 Blue Devils 2 (SO)
David Edwards wins it for the Stingers as this shootout goes 7 skaters deep per side. In Regulation, Ray Workman and David Ogle had the Blue Devil goals while the Stingers got their two from Scott Childress and Ronald Widmann. Blue Devils Goalie Mike Redmond kicks aside 14 of 16 before the shootout while Greg Carter stops 8 of 10.

Wolverines 9 Shockers 0
This was an absolute thrashing. Probably the most one-sided game of the season. Chris Conner decided to go insane as he gets the hat trick plus 2 helpers. Greg Mersbergher, Nate Hodges, John Pinnar, and Bryan Conner had scores while Trevor Lichty had two goals.

Komets 3 Ice Holes 1
Komets get their revenge from last season’s humiliation by playing one of their best games of the season. Gerrald Kappers' Goal from Nate Hodges gave the Komets momentum 30 seconds into the first. Komets would make it 2-0 in the second period on Melissa Ross’ goal. The Ice Holes, who fought a very physical game struck back on a Michael Crook goal to make it 2-1. Komets responded as a Sergio Castillo point blast was deflected home by Ross for her second of the night. Next to the Puckers, the Komets are probably the team with the most momentum.

Snipers 3 Fugaweez 2
Snipers with a huge upset, makes some wonder if the Fugs are deserving of a Keg Birth, but we think they do. Snipers’ Bill Fitch gets the first for the Snipers from Rob Richards, but the Fugs countered with Matt Osbourne’s goal. Alex Eyesermans gave the Snipers the lead again, but it was to be tied yet one more time on Osbourne’s 2nd score of the night. With 2 minutes left in regulation, Andrew “warrior” St. Julian humbles the Fugaweez for the 3-2 lead. Patrick Donaghue looked turconian on the night by stopping 26 of 28 shots. Fugs will also be going for their 3rd Keg title against the Stickmen next week.

Good luck to the Fugs and Stickmen in the Keg game.

P.S. Best record going into the Keg game belongs to the last sessions Phantoms. Perfect 8-0.

P.S.S. The Phantoms Dvd "The Perfect Season" is on sale now.

;)

Good luck to everybody next week.

Here we go with the Phantom nonsense again.

I really thought we were past this.

Coincidentally, just in time for Christmas, this seasons Phantoms
D-League DVD titled "OVERRATED--what were we thinking?" will be on sale at local Dollar General stores as soon as they win a game...

Judging by the first third of the season, I'm making alternate gift plans...

LMFAO

Unlike you I can take a joke.

Oh I wonder if the OVERRATED DVD is going to have bonus material. And where can I pre-order mine?

Yea but the 3rd part of the trilogy will have:
Return of the Champions: The Phantoms reunion tour of I league.

Phantoms will go 12-0. They'll be so good, they'll win games that dont even exist.

The goals credited to Jonathan Keith in the TRUE.COM vs Spiders game, while I wish they were mine, should actually be shown as coming off of Matt Baily's stick.

It looks like this affects his point leader standing signifigantly, so I appreciate the correction.

Thanks!

Correction for the Stingers goaltending, it was Dana Fenili in goal not Greg Carter...Thanks

Re: Beatdown of Fugs and Stickmen.

Oh...Not only are we beating them down, we are beating the entire league down.

Regardless of the opposition.
