I league: Week 2

In a night of hockey we saw a couple of old comrades returning…

3 Stars

1. Peanut Ratliff- Black Widows: 1 Goal, 2 Assists. Black Widows 4-1 win.

2. Dallas Lehr- Patriots: 2 Goals (GWG). Patriots 5-2 win.

3. Travis Lehr- Patriots: 1 Goal, 1 Assist. Patriots 5-2 win

Goalie of the Week: Jason Lannaman: Black Widows. 13 saves on 14 shots. B.W. 4-2 win.

Stickmen 4 Spiders 1

Stickmen remain in the ranks of the undefeated with a solid win over a Chris Gallagher-less Spiders team. A healthy benched Stickmen squad (15 skaters) was just too much for the Spiders. Jeff Thomas got the scoring started in the first. In the second it was more of the same, stickmen domination. Jesse Henderson and Damon Flores both light the lamp (props to Flores for scoring his first I league goal). In the third the spiders got a goal from Bryan Couturer to make the Stickmen lead 3-1, then Valerie Kunta gets a very nice goal on a Henderson feed. After a crappy season last session, the stickmen may actually have something rolling.

Black Widows 4 Snipers 1

Black Widows make it two wins in a row with a dominating win over a perplexed snipers squad. BW was up 2-0 after the first on a goal from Peanut Ratliff and Jake Jordan. In the second it was the great Kurt Kresta off a Ratliff assist for the 3-0 lead. Snipers would finally get on the board late in the 2nd on a Greg Martinez goal. In the third the Black Widows would make it 4-1 on a goal from Aaron Schanets. For having only 8 Skaters the Black Widows pretty much dominated this one. We are impressed.

Patriots 5 Puckers 2

Patriots get their bench back after only having 7 skaters last week deal a hurt on the Puckers who fall to 0-2. This one went back and forth for the first period as both teams seemed to trade goal for goal. Patriots struck first on a Dallas Lehr goal, only to have it tied up for the great Ryan Rintala. Patriots then scored on a Travis Lehr goal for a 2-1 lead, only to have it Brett Bolan on a Mike Voglel assist. Patriots then began to pull away as Dallas “T.O.” Lehr gets his second of the night from Nate Hodges. The great Jeff Eagle then added another goal off a sweet Greg Helenbrook pass for a 4-2 Pat lead. Patriots then added a final goal in the third on a breakaway goal from Butch Hutchinson. Jeff Vaughan sat in the Heavens and laughed.

Ice Holes 3 Blue Devils 2

After reaching the championship game last season, the blue devils have underachieved thus far this season as they fall to 0-2. This game did see the glorious return of Blog Captain Mike Drago returned to I league. The Evil Empire was up 1-0 on an unassisted goal from the great Duncanville Hockey Master Jarrod Roberson. This lead lasted until the third when the Ice Holes turned their offense. Lee Tone scores un-assisted, followed up by Dave Base on a Jason Pilcher assist. Finally with three minutes left in the period, Nichole Palonar scores off a Michael Crook assist for the game winner. Blue Devils scored again on Roberson’s second goal of the night, but not enough as Ice Holes goalie Doug Taylor holds BD scoreless thereafter. Dancing Hippo Ray Workman was a healthy scratch for the game and Todd Smith has begun trade negotiations with three teams. Clearly the Blue Devils are having internal problems; we hope they can work it out.

Komets 3 Warriors 2 (shootout)

Komets get back on the winning track with a shootout win over the Warriors. In a game that saw the return of the great Ryan "€œScreaming Like a Demon from Hell"€ Smith, the warriors shot themselves in the foot in this one by taking 10 penalties thus resulting in two Komets powerplay goals. Komets drew first blood on a Sean Kerr goal, however the Warriors came right back with two goals from Craig Newland and Tim Brady for the 2-1 lead. After a scoreless 2nd, Las Kometas scored the equalizer on a Dustin Nation goal late in the third. In the shootout, it would be Rich Duval who scored as the komets get their first win of the season.

Brewzers 4 Leftovers 0

Brewzers absolutely obliterate the leftovers in this one in Bobby Sirkis’ debue as Leftovers head coach. Brewzers get all their goals on rebounds and if it wouldn’t have been John Ellis in net, the score would have been FAR worse, he deserves a better fate. Rob Walker scores in the first, for the 1-0 brewzers lead. The second was scoreless as the Leftovers still maintained a shot at making a game, but in the third, the brewzers turned it on. Brit Broostrom, Mackenzie Fenai, and Bobby Jackson all score as the Brewzers cruise to an easy 4-0 win. From Junior Lindamood after the game, "I am only 18, what am I suppost to do?!"€ From head coach bobby sirkis after the game, "€œMayhem will be returning next season. "
