UPDATED: Game 4 Results

Results from May 6:

  • Blue Devils 5, Spuds 1: Mike Drago had two goals and an assist (photo above after second goal), while Jon Cramer and Ray "The Rock" Workman each added a goal and two assists in the BDs' victory. Other heroes: Goalie Mike Redmon stopped 18 of 19 shots; David Ogle had a goal; Dan Glein had two assists; and Patrick "Patty The Mouth" Green had an assist to go with ... a pair of penalties. ;) Always-dangerous Bobby Sirkis scored for the Spuds on a Mike Bresnaham assist.
  • REDRUM 4, Puckers 1: Dan Barr scored twice and assisted once as the Redrummers dominated the Lucky Puckers despite a short bench. We're told two defensemen played the entire game yet allowed just nine shots on goal. The Puckers' goal was scored by Chris Kirton. Also scoring for REDRUM: Billy Craft, Roy Uranhart.
  • Fugaweez 4, Spiders 2: The Fugaweez never trailed after Dallas Lehr's unassisted goal late in the first period. Mitch Gnatowski added a goal and assist, while Kyle Overton and Scott Dolbee scored goals for the defending Keg champs, who might be finding their legs. For the Spiders, scores came from Andrew Patti and Brian Couture.
  • Ice Holes 6, Snipers 1: Greg Hunt had a goal and three assists in the Ice Holes' pounding of the Snipers. Other scorers: Mike Crook, Raul Gilbreath, Greg Durante, David Base, Mike Skupien. Ice Holes played most of the game in the Snipers' end and led in shots, 28-9.
  • Brewzers 6, Stingers 3: Milton Highfield got the hat trick for Brewzers, while Andy Thomas added two goals. This game threatened to be close after back-to-back goals by Greg Carter and Robert Sirkis (we think) in the third period pulled Stingers within 4-3. But goals by Thomas and John Parker put the Stingers away.
  • Stickmen 1, Phantoms 0: Jeff Thomas' second-period goal stood up for the undefeated Stickmen (4-0). Goalie Steve McCollister was perfect on 22 shots. Phantoms played tough defense, allowing just 11 shots.
  • Wolverines 4, Patriots 1: Chris Conner scored twice and goalie Chris Duran stopped 24 of 25 shots to lead the Wolverines. Bobby Sirkis and Greg Mersberger (are we spelling that right?) each added a goal and two assists. Butch Hutchison scored for the Patriots. Antti Sivula and Steve Benefield were credited with assists on the goal.

*It was a particularly bad week for scorekeeper handwriting. All credit for mistakes here goes to them.

UPDATED: Week 3 Results

  • The Ice Holes held off the Spiders 2-0 on Saturday night, while Brewzers survived the scrappy Spuds, 5-4.

The game summaries:

  • Wolverines 8, Fugaweez 6: Chris Conner and Greg Mersberger each had two goals, and the Wolverines got out to a 5-0 lead before hanging on for the victory. After digging the big hole, Fugaweez answered with five of the next six scores. They pulled within 6-5 on Derek Tillemans’ goal with 5:20 left. But the Wolverines put it away with Conner’s second score, with 1:30 to go, then added an empty netter.
  • Stickmen 2, Patriots 1: In the most controversial ending of the night, a Patriots’ score at the final buzzer was disallowed by the scorekeeper, clinching victory for the undefeated Stickmen. The call, still disputed by the Patriots, was that the buzzer in the scorekeeper’s box sounded before the puck crossed the goal line. Jeff Thomas was the hero for the Stickmen. He scored an unassisted goal in the first period and added the game winner, on an assist by Ed Vogel, with 6:25 left in the third. The Patriots’ goal was scored by Robert Gullinese, unassisted. This would be a dandy rematch in the Stanley Keg playoffs.
  • Phantoms 3, Stingers 1: The Phantoms smothered the Stingers’ offense, allowing just eight shots. Scores came from Jay Peters, Bryan Brookman and Jason Neal. John Loyd had an assist on Peters’ goal. The Stingers’ ruined Don Inman’s shutout with Jack Seabaugh’s goal at the 8:20 mark in the third. Greg Carter assisted.
  • Brewzers 5, Spuds 4: Jamil Jabri had four goals and an assist as Brewzers overcame an early 3-1 deficit to the winless Spuds. Andy Thomas also had a big night for the Brewzers. He had a hand in all their scores – a goal and four assists. Substitute Daniel Barr led the Spuds with a hat trick.
  • Blue Devils 3, REDRUM 0: Defenseman Ray “The Rock” Workman played goalie the entire third period while the frantically checking Blue Devils held REDRUM without a shot to complete the shutout. Workman, a.k.a. "A Little On The Slow Side But Ferocious Like A Cornered Badger," was forced into goal after BD’s netminder Mike Redmon was ejected for a little fracas during the second intermission. Blood was drawn; that's all we're saying about it. (All in good fun, eh?) Goals were by Michael Binney (unassisted), Kevin Garten (assist Mike Drago) and David Ogle (assist Patrick Green).
  • Snipers 6, Puckers 0: Tom Buckner had three goals and an assist, while David Counce added a pair of scores for the Snipers. This one was no contest. The Puckers managed only seven shots on goalie Josh Ayala.
  • Ice Holes 2, Spiders 0: David Base and Phillip Hussey scored to lift the Ice Holes to their first victory. Assists came from Greg Durante and Andrea Cortinas. David Giesecke was perfect on the 15 shots he faced in goal.

Scoring Leaders: Through Game 3

*A note about stats: Players accumulate stats by team. That is, if you play for more than one team, you have a stat line for each team. Stats are compiled according to official scoresheets. Any mistakes, misapplied goals, misspellings or omissions are due to incomplete or inaccurate scoresheets. We report what they report. If your name is misspelled, leave a comment and it will be corrected. In other words, this process is like hand grenades; we're just trying to get it in the vicinity. And, remember dude: It's only I-league, but we like it. -- The management.
