Week 5: I Leauge

As stated in an earlier comment by one of our loyal readers….. "I league is very competitive this session up and down the board I wouldn’t really say anybody's better than anybody else."
The Standings summarize that point…While there are some teams a little better than others, there were still classic showdowns this weekend……..

*Brewzers Goalie Mike Moore doing some fancy pad work as Lehr and Sandlin look on...

Fugaweez 2 Brewzers 1
A glorious mortal battle ended with the Fugs still undefeated. This probably should be been the I league game of the night, oh well. The Brewzers got the first goal late in the 1st on a Masterful “shot off the face off” from Captain Jamil Jabri, his 7th goal of the season. Lately the brewzers capt, hadn’t made much on the score sheet, but had the brewzers thinking they could end the fugs’ unbeaten streak in this one. Fugaweez were held scoreless till late in the third when Carl Moser hit the back of the twine to even it out at 1-1. With 27 seconds left on the clock, and OT/Shootout looming, Derrick Tillemons shot found its way past net minder Mike Moore, Osborne on the assist. This one looked eerily familiar to the Pats-Fugs game a couple weeks ago. Fugs hold on the top spot with only 3 games to play….

Stickmen 4 Spiders 0
So much for the “I league game of the night”. The shorthanded spiders only put up 10 shots against a stingy Stickmen defense. Stickmen took an early 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back. Tim James had the official game winner of the night off the Larry Wade assist. Ed Vogle, Luke Schwenfurth, and Jesse Henderson also tacked goals on the night. Stickmen now have sole control of second place and a possible Championship showdown with the Fugaweez on December 16th.

Patriots 2 Snipers 1
Once again the Patriots played their style of hockey by scoring early and playing pretty much rock solid defense through the rest of the game. The Finnish Hockey Wizard Antii Sivulla struck again for the Pats to give them the 1-0 lead in the first. Rahul Sharma then lit the lamp in the second to give the Patriots a nice 2 goal cushion going into the third. Snipers, who are still unbelievably winless, got a goal from Big Joe Tomme to renew to snipers’ hopes of a comeback. Patriot's goalie Jesse Gonzales denied any further snipers attempts at tying the game. Pats still have a shot at the keg by being only 1 point back of the Stickmen for second….this one is going to be close….

Blue Devils 1 Shockers 0
We heard this one was a thriller. Only one goal in the night, which came in the 2nd period off of Scott Speelman’s stick. Goalies on both sides were spectacular with Shockers goalie Chris Duran stopping 16 of 17, while Terry Redmond for the Blue Devils turned aside all 14 shots he faced. Blue Devils keep climbing the standings, while the Shockers still seem to be just off on the timing…we’re pullin for ya lads.

Komets 5 True.com 2
The Komets have won back to back games!? OH SNAP!
The surging Komets had an offensive explosion thanks to the Baldree-Nation-Kappers line, a total of 10 points on the night for that He-Man group....yikes! Scott Baldree got the hat trick while Gerald Kappers and Melissa “Smurfette” Ross found the back of the net. Dustin “Jolly Green Giant” Nation with 3 assists on the night. On the flip side, True.com had chances abundant: 2 Posts and 2 goals (too bad this isn’t horseshoes eh?). The always dangerous David “Awesome Skates” Benson lit the lamp while Matt Bailey added another. Komets Goalie Brent Bryant once again stood on his head kicking aside 22 of 24 shots. The Franchise best start for the komets continues…

*The Total Eclipse looks on while stylin'

Puckers 2 Stingers 1
The Puckers have found their winning ways yet again with a close edging out of the Awesome Uniform Stingers (see above)…we aren’t kidding either…they kick arse. Dallas Lehr had a goal and an assist on the night for the lucky puckers while Kevin Leichenhoff had the game winner late in the second. The Stingers got their goal from John Hardin. All three goals coming in the 2nd period…interesting. We don’t have a shot total for the 3rd….looks like the scorekeep feel asleep or just hit the bar early….we are guessing door number 2...

Ice Holes 4 Wolverines 1
This game was rather….interesting. The Wolverines scored 4 times in this game…except 2 of those was in their own net…powerdown…..Goals for the Ice Holes from a Mysterious “Number 2” who isn’t listed on the roster, while Jason Junker had the other 2 for the Ice Holes….Wolverines actually out shot the opposition 15 to 13, but could only get 1 by Ice Holes goalie David Giesecke. Greg Mersberger had the lone wolverines’ goal.

Hey Nate, this is Baldree from the Komets. I should have a total of 4 goals on the season. I scored the hat-trick this past Saturday, but also scored a goal in our second game.

True.com should have 3 points. One win (2 points) plus one OTL (1 point).
