Must Win week is here for teams still vying for playoffs. Losers can go hide in a corner while the winners will be exalted.
Puckers vs. Shockers 6:30
Puckers are in need of a win to maintain their chase of the Title game. If the puckers team that has played the last few games shows up, it should be no problem. Shockers though had an all out offensive assault last week, we’ll see if Otto Bielss can roll another hat trick this week.
Leftovers vs. Brewzers 7:30
Brewzers should make quick work of a spunky leftovers squad, however if the leftovers are going to win a game this season, this would be the trap game. Jeff Vaughan says bring a flask to this game. Jen “S to the crappy” Leonard is said to have taken her vitamins before this one in search of her first hat trick.
Komets vs. Snipers 7:45
A huge game for the Komets as they will have to do battle with the Ken Halford goonery. Komets won a meeting between these two last seasons, but much has changed since that last meeting. Canadians are fired up about the Jeff Vaughan vs. Chris Gallagher matchup in this one. From Komets own Sean Kerr, “The Snipers are a fake, a fraud, a phony. I can’t believe this team won the keg last season.” Ouch, harsh. Snipers can get back into the keg game with a win, believe it or not.
Spiders-Plat vs. Fugaweez 8:45
Fugaweez are on a roll, and no thanks to epic goaltending. Rumor has it the Spiders will be shorthanded in this one. A Fugs win would continue to make the silver division interesting for another week. Mark Gragg is probably the most underrated players in the Silver Division. Fear him…and the New Orleans Saints.
Warriors vs. Borrachos 9pm
The Borrachos have found their groove and are looking to bury the dagger in the Warrior’s postseason hopes. From Warriors' ringer Dallas “TO” Lehr about the game, “Many can drink, but only one will win.” The Borrachos should take care of businesses if they play as well as they did last game. Super Ringer Sean Haley will be chugging beers as he skates up the ice. This will be the first time these two teams have met.
Spiders vs. Mayhem 10pm
After suffering losses to the Patriots and the Stingers, the season is on the line for the defending Gold Keg champs as they face a must win against the Spiders. The Spiders have held their own against the Gold Elite teams. However, John Pinnard should be making a return for Mayhem. From head coach Bobby Sirkis, “When I returned from my vacation, we practiced non stop for 83 hours, that will teach my boys the price of losing.” Spiders will also be without some of their D, which could be a problem against the Conner Brothers.
Stingers vs. Stickmen 10:15
The great Josh Briscoe will once again lead his mighty group of warriors into battle, this time, against a downtrodden Stickmen team. From Briscoe about the game, “If I was the stickmen, I wouldn’t even bother showing up.” (note: he really said this, not the fictional Briscoe) Polarizing. Stingers can clinch the top seed with a win, and they way they are rolling, it is debatable if anyone can beat this team of God. Stickmen will send Alex Eysermans as their secret weapon, but even his greatness might not be enough. Stingers underwear is now on sale in the proshop.
Patriots vs. Ice Holes 11:15
Patriots still are rolling with a glorious win last week. The defensive holy trinity will be unleashed yet again for the pats, and we expect nothing but mighty hockey. The Ice holes will have to put up at least 3-4 goals for a win Daniel “Scoreboard” Barr will make his return in this game, will the Skupiens be able to shut their D league teammate down? The Millennium Falcon will make the Kessel run in this showdown. For what its worth, the Pats shut the Holes down 3-0 last season. The Pats have already secured a playoff spot, as have the Spiders and Stingers, so one wonders how these teams will play.

Week 6 I league Recap
3 Stars1. Otto Bielss: Shockers- 3 Goals, 2 Assists (GWG) Shockers 5-2 win
2. Matt Osbourne: Fugaweez- 2 Goals, Fugaweez 4-1 win.
3. Jack Stuckeman: Borrachos- 1 Goal, 1 Assist, Borrachos 6-2 win.
Honorable Mention: Roland Widmann: Stingers- 1 goal, 1 Assist, Stingers 4-2 win
Goalie of the week: Jesse Gonzales: 10 saves/10 Shots, shutout: Patriots 1-0 win. 24 saves/26 shots, 1 Assist: Borrachos 6-2 win.
Stingers 4 Mayhem 2
Obviously still feeling the effects of their loss to the Patriots, Mayhem drops another one, this time to a red hot stingers squad. Mayhem actually had the lead in this one, on a goal from Trevor Lichy and one from Robert Gullinese, both coming in the first period. Stingers would get a much needed goal late in the period from Roland Widmann to trim the Mayhem lead to one. The second period was all Stingers who fire off three goals. Euless hockey messiah Josh Briscoe scores on the prettiest play in I league thus far on a tic tack toe play from Mike Best and Jason “Werewolf” Isham. Also scoring on the night was Greg Carter on a the game winner via a nice play in front of the Mayhem net and Mike Best from Dan Finili and Widman for the fourth and final goal. From Briscoe after the game, “For all those interested, you can go to Mayhem’s new website at Mayhemblows.com”. Also discovered on the night was the secret to the Stingers success this season…..Team Underwear Sharing.
Patriots 1 Warriors 0
Patriots still feeling overjoyed by their glorious shutout win over Mayhem earlier in the season get yet another shutout, this time in abuse of the scrappy Warriors squad. In a game which could have been a lot worse, the Patriots missed several open nets and caught a couple pipes, not to mention Warriors keeper Phillip Talley played out of his mind in this game. Patriots outshot the Warriors 8-0 in the first, but still found themselves tied at 0-0. The Second and Third periods had more of the same, dominating Patriots hockey, with sporadic Warrior counterattacks, all snuffed out by Patriots goalie Jesse Gonzales. For the second straight week the Patriots found themselves in the extra period. It took 14 seconds into the frame before Nate Hodges scores on a sassy top shelf goal on a great Steve Benfield give and go play for the winner as the Patriots clinch a playoff spot. The Millennium Falcon is the official vehicle of the Patriots hockey club. The Sharma/Vaughan/Hodges Trinity once again worked wonders as they put a show on for the conveyors who watched the game.
Fugaweez 4 Brewzers 1
The Fugaweez are on fire as they win yet again to crawl within a game of 2nd place in the silver divison. Fugs get two goals from Matt Osbourne while Carl Thomson and Damon Lacey score in a game that was completely dominated by the Fugaweez. The score had a 4-0 fugs lead until Ken Thom scored for the Brewzers who are all but out of the Keg race. Great goaltending by Fugs keeper Creighton Bowsher, stops 15 of 16. Fear the Fugs.
Borrachos 6 Ice Holes 2
Borrachos win big in this one and look to have found their groove with a couple games left this season. Ice Holes actually had the lead on a Jason Junker goal, however it would be all Borrachos pretty much after that. Dan Stuckeman fires off a couple goals, followed up by Jim Stuckeman who got two more goals. Not to be outdone, Jaaaaaaaaaack “Where’s Zack” Stuckeman for the 5-1 lead. To cap the night off Sean “Super Ringer” Haley scores to complete the Borrachos’ massacre. Ice Holes get one more off a Steve Junker goal, but no more. Some people might say this game was dominated by ringers, however the non-ringer side of the borrachos had the best game of their careers as players like Todd Kilgore, John Cervantes, Igor Teplitsky and Steve Livesay (amongst others) actually touched, passed, shot and advanced the puck. We tip our cap to these warriors.
Puckers 2 Snipers 1
Puckers bounce right back from their tough loss last week to Chris Gallagher’s Komets, in a very good win over the snipers. Puckers still are within striking distance of the keg game, but have to play near perfect hockey the rest of the way to make it. Puckers started this one on a Rick Gregory goal from Chris Kirton and Gary Bodner. With under 2 minutes left in the period the snipers tied it on a Kevin Cook strike for the equalizer. The second period had the Puckers up for good on a goal from Steve Niekamp from Guy Riggs. This one would hold up for the game winner as Casey Jenkins denies 16 of 17 shots on the night. Snipers racked up a total of 18 minutes in penalties in this game, and Ken Halford wasn’t ejected? Shocking.
Spiders 4 Stickmen 1
Spiders stay pace with the Stingers with a solid win over the battle weary Stickmen. Stickmen actually had the lead in this one on a 90 foot shot from outside the blueline from Jesse “Dy-no-mite” Henderson. The lead would stay until the beginning of the second when Alex Adkins would get the tying goal. The third period would be all Spiders who get one from Andrew Patti and Kris Navarro, while Adkins would get his second late in the third. Stickmen tried using Ohio State Eye Black as a good luck charm in this game. From Alex Eysermans’ after the game regarding the makeup “I don’t know why we tried this gay idea. This one is worst than the time Jesse wanted us all to wear mini skirts on the ice.” Back to hockey…Spiders will have their hands full as they have to do battle with Mayhem.
Blue Devils 2 Leftovers 0
The outcome of this one was never in question really. The great David Ogle would score on a helper from Ray “Dancing Flamingo” Workman for an early 1-0 advantage. The evil empire would then get another one in the second, this time from the hot Gloria Buehl on a tremendous feed from Todd “Barry Bonds” Smith. Leftovers only threw 6 shots at the Blue Devils net, a pretty easy job for Phil Garlow. Blue Devils are still in complete control of their division and are only a couple wins short of making the keg game for the second straight season. Also in a transaction note, the Blue Devils have been having friendly negotiations with the Patriots in a cooperative agreement. One wonders what this means for the Silver Keg…
Shockers 5 Spiders Plat 2
Shockers get their first win of the season in a hard fought battle. The Shockers came loaded in this one as Otto Bielss gets the hat trick and two helpers while Bryan Voskuil gets two goals and two helpers of his own in the winning cause. Spiders tried to make a rally when trailing 3-0 in the third, getting two goals from Lynn Kresta. But a spiders team lacking Freeman and Hodges still lacked a punch seen in other games. Spiders Goalie: Nina Bonifaz battled like a champion, trying to hold her team in this one, but too much firepower for the shockers in this one.
Playoff Possibilites: With only a couple weeks left in the silver and one week left in the Gold, this is how things will be looking for the playoffs.
Gold Division: Patriots, Stingers, Spiders have secured a playoff spot. Question is where will they be seeded. Mayhem must win to clinch a spot, however the warriors aren’t out of the hunt yet, as a win over the borrachos and a mayhem loss gets the warriors into the dance.
Silver Division:
Blue Devils are sitting very nice right now with a great record, a slew of head to head tiebreakers and a mighty Goals Against stat. One win in their next two should get them into the keg game. However these two games are against the Komets and the Puckers. Not an easy Task.
Komets have an advantage for one, because of a game in hand they have over the Puckers and the Blue Devils. Also the Tiebreaker over the Puckers could be huge in the end. But a Snipers team bent on spoilers could mean trouble for Los Komets. Also, the komets have the Blue Devils and Fugaweez to deal with, two teams also in the championship hunt.
Puckers will have to win out for the most part to get into the keg game. Their loss to the Komets really hurt their keg chances, but this is a very talented team who could beat the Komets or Blue Devils if matched with.
Fugaweez are the hottest team in the league as they are scoring at will and have a pretty easy schedule ahead playing the Spiders Plat and Leftovers. However they have a finale against the Komets which would certainly have keg implications.

Blue Line/NYTEX I league
As promised, we would bring you info on the leauges opening up at blueline when they occured.
We talked to Knute Anderson over at Blueline/NYTEX (whatever they're calling it these days)
and in order of serving you, the north texas hockey player. We give you more hockey (as Blog Captain says, we are not bound to one rink or the other) LET CAPITALISM FLOW!!!!
For the I league at NYTEX: Begins July 21-Oct 13
-$2900 for a team.
-$199 per player
-Coaches are USA hockey certified
-3 Practices
-9 games: 14 min Periods, OT, Shootout if needed
-Refereed by MOAH refs (is that a good thing????)
-Players recieve pass to Adult Clinic which takes place thursday nights.
-Pretty much a big stick in puck with Anderson and the Bramahs coaches. Specialization on hockey skills and game situtations.

Meeting Recap/Week 6 Preview
The meetings last night went well. Here's what was discussed for Changes in the Summer and Beyond...
-Saturday night times will be kept.
-For the Gold Division: It will become a sort of D2 division with 15 min stop time periods. Longer Seasons.
-For the Silver Division: It will be an I league in its truest form. More Practices, Less Games. A place to learn and start the game.
-For the Summer Season there will be only a 10 week season for both sides to allow syncronization of all other DPSC start dates come October. Price for the summer will be $179. Cheaper if an entire team registers.
-Both the I league and the D2 will move to pointstreak. Rosters with pictures will be mandated...hopefully they'll be enforced.
-Coordinators will actualy pay the price for allowing illegal subs by facing a 30 day suspension. The two sub rule will still be allowed.
-There will be the return of a Skills Camp/Skills Clinic for players to learn and at the same time, actualy show their skills off (radar guns, accuracy competitions, Speed Drills, ect.
-More importantly, a vote will be taken either this weekend or next from teams as a whole (Yockey will come into all the locker rooms) and you will decided if your team wants to move to the more competitive D2 league, or stay in a learning enviornment of the I League.
-Converyors will still be used to look out for ringers and officiating problems. Look for these guys to take on bigger responsibilities.
-There are a select group of people who may be asked to leave both leagues based on superior skill abilities. But the list hasnt been confirmed, or if this step will even be taken. (it was a suggestion in the meeting)
-Instead of 4-12 Week Seasons a year, the D2 will move to 3-16 week seasons. Payment plans will be allowed. This move would come in the fall.
-Possibility of Staggering the True I league and the D2 to allow practices and skills evaluation of the I league, and a possible Draft by coordinators up to D2.
-If you play in a D2 division, the argument of "This is I league" no longer applies. Get better or move down.
For the most part, that was it.

Spiders will be without Nate Hodges due to what team doctors are calling a fatigued groin injury. However Whitney Freeman will make her return as the Spiders-Plat try to make it two wins in a row. In recent video examination it has been determined that Spiders goalie Nina Bonifez instead of water, drinks straight up taquila in between whistles. Shockers are hoping they can get their first win of the season.
Stingers vs Mayhem 8:45
The glorious return of His Excellency Josh Briscoe is just in time for the biggest game of the season since the Patriots defeated Mayhem at the beginning of the season. Briscoe said, "Mayhem's players can't even make empty net goals, how are they going to beat total eclipse?!" Head Coach Bobby Sirkis is in such fear of this game, that he has convienently gone on vacation this weekend. Jason "Islam" Isham said he will single handedly destroy mayhem and make Chris Duran look like Marty Turco playing the Avalanche. Winner of this game will gain a foothold on first place.

Blue Devils need a win to stay in first place in the silver division. They should get this win easily pending a massive collapse. Todd Smith goonery is expected to make a return. Perfect place for it. From Mark Cameron regarding his team's chances this weekend, "Don't be suprised if multiple hat tricks are scored...by me." Josh Briscoe is rumored to be playing in the game, on both sides.

If the stickmen were capable of winning any games of this season, this would be their best chance. Spiders are still reeling from their loss to the Stingers last week and will be facing one of the best goalies in the league in David Blubaugh. Only problem is the Sticks' lack of defense may turn out to be the achillies heal for the Stickmen. Jesse Henderson actualy had the nerve to predict victory, but then realised he would be playing against Rahul Sharma, in which he hung his head in frusteration.

Believe it or not, this is a good game to watch. Both teams mirror each other in pretty much every way. Brewzers have to win to stay moderatly close for a shot at the Keg. Jamil Jabri vs Matt Osbourne will be the matchup of choice here. Jeff Vaughan says rob a blind man, buy a beer and watch this game.

Borrachos are pissed. Very Pissed. After two back to back one goal losses, the borrachos are putting it all on the ice and are looking to obliterate the 1-4 Ice Holes. They should accomplish thier goal. However if its a low scoring game, the Holes might get the win.

Week 5 Recap I League
So while people continue to whine about ringers, here is what happened in week 5.
Three Stars:

Patriots 4 Borrachos 3 (OT)
Patriots survive a strong Borrachos squad in the extra frame to still control the fourth place playoff spot. Patriots not only faced the line of doom in Stuckeman, Stuckeman and Haley, but also faced the awesome power of mighty warrior Dan Stuckeman. Pats who only had 8 skaters on the night threw their “Holy Trinity of Defense” in Sharma, Hodges and Vaughan at the Borrachos and it proved to be enough…with insane goaltending by Jesse Gonzales, who had his best game of the year thus far, Including a save on a Jim Stuckeman breakaway with one second left in regulation. Borrachos would get one score from Jim Stuckeman while Dan Stuckeman would get the other two for the Borrachos. Patriots wouldn’t be denied as Brian Brookman, Jesse Mares, and John Piccarillo get the regulation goals. In OT, the patriots took full control of Borrachos penalty trouble and cashed in on a Sharma goal for the win. Patriots are not only excited with their win over Mayhem earlier in the season, but also with this huge win to remain the hunt.

With their loss to the Patriots still on their mind, Mayhem was determined not to lose to the winless Stickmen. Alas, their emotions were still shattered as Mayhem was the first team to surrender a goal to the Stickmen squad…on their first and only shot of the first period. Mayhem wouldn’t score 45 goals as promised by Coach Bobby Sirkis, but they get a healthy four. Brian Conner continues his tear as he maintains the league lead in points with two goals on the night. Also scoring was Ryan “Screaming like a demon from hell” Smith and Trevor “Patrick Stephane” Litchy. Notably, goalie Chris Duran notched an assist on the night. Heck, the dude only faced 7 shots all night, why shouldn’t he get involved with the offense. Mayhem will clash with the Stingers for a shot at control of first place next week. Nickerson vs Pinnard will be the matchup of the century.
Stingers 4 Spiders 3 (SO)
Stingers gain control of first place in the gold division and send the spiders team into the pit of despair. Stingers looked like the better team for most of the night as they never trailed in this one. Stingers were able to get goals from Scott Childress, Greg Carter and Jason “Avawings #1 fan” Isham. Spiders wouldn’t go away as they seemed to always be able to tie the game up as they were able to squeeze by the total eclipse on shots from Chris Gallagher, Andrew Patti, and with under a minute left in the third, from Aaron Manalo. The shootout again would go the Stingers on a John Hardin score that beat Spiders goalie Matt Sexton. Total Eclipse for the stingers was perfect in the shootout. From Josh Briscoe following the game that he did not play in, “Go ahead and crown us, no one will stop me.”
Warriors 3 Ice Holes 1
Warriors still are hanging in their for the 4th and final playoff spot in the Gold Division as they beat up on the hapless Ice Holes. Warriors had a great night from Ken “Doc” Taub who had two goals on the night. Eric Johnson also had a tally for the Warriors while the Holes only strike was from Jared Junker. Rumor has it the Warriors are dressing like pirates these days. Warriors will take on the red hot Patriots on Saturday.
Spiders Silver 3 Leftovers 1
Spiders get back on the winning side as they get the big 3-1 win over the winless leftovers. Nate Hodges had a goal and an assist while Lynn Kresta and Kurt Kresta both score. Goalie Nina Bonifaz was solid on the night 21 of 22. The scene at the crossbar following the game was “interesting”.
Blue Devils 3 Snipers 0
In a rematch of the Silver Keg from last season, the Blue Devils get their revenge as they obliterate the snipers. The Evil Empire got two goals from Chris Zolle and one from a mysterious number 11. The great Mark Cameron had two assists on the night. Dancing Hippo Ray Workman said, “It must be a sin to play and look this good”. Apparently Arm Hair is something that is coveted on the Blue Devils…
Komets 3 Puckers 2
Komets get probably the biggest win in their franchise history and a currently hold the second place behind Diablo Azul. This one started out with the Puckers atop on a Ryan Rintala goal, however it was quickly erased by a Chris Gallagher goal for Los Komets. Puckers would then gain another advantage on a Steve Niekomp goal, again erased by Gallagher on a Beverly Schuler helper. Komets would then get the winner on Gallagher’s third of the night from Nate Hodges and Schuler for the winner. If Gallagher keeps scoring goals, the Komets may have a Keg in their future.
Fugaweez 4 Shockers 1
Fugaweez keep the Shockers winless in a complete domination. A 2-0 Fugs lead was built on goals from Mike Garcia and Damon Lacey before the shockers scored on a Bryan Voskiul goal. Fugaweez would then ice the game with a couple more goals from Mark Gragg and Patrick “Captain Picard” Steward. Before Steward scored he was heard yelling “engage” from blue line.
Further more we broke down the league as a whole to see just how teams sit if we were to erase the divisions….
1.Stingers: Are officially a 2-1 favorite to win the keg this season. The perfect balance of offense, defense, ringers and goaltending. Just what you need to win a championship.
2.Mayhem: Only reason they are ahead of the Spiders is because they haven’t played them. Coach Bobby Sirkis has this team running like a machine, while Brian Conner is the by far the MVP of the League.
3.Spiders: Great Goaltending by Matt Sexton has gotten this team to where they are right now. Offensively they can score when needed, but they haven’t blown a team out this season. Keg dreams are based on what Chris Gallagher does
4.Patriots: Tough losses to the Spiders and Stingers have proved frustrating for the patriots. On Paper, this team should beat any team in the league. Jeff Vaughan is on this team. Enough said.
5.Warriors: The warriors are the pefect cross between a Gold and Silver division team (as are the borrachos) This team can sneak into the upper playoffs if it plays its cards right.
6.Borrachos: Tough losses late in games have cost the borrachos. Compared to last season, this team is miles better though. As stated above, this team is a perfect mix between a silver and gold team. This team should be feared a lot more than it is.
7.Blue Devils: Could hang with about half the gold teams, but at the same time would be decimated if they were to play Mayhem, the Pats or the Stingers. They are defensivly sound and have great scoring options in Zolle and Cameron. They just need a lucky bounce in the Keg game.
8.Ice Holes: Good News: Lowest GAA in the Gold Division. Bad news: Lowest Goals for average in the Gold Division. Reminds us of a certain hockey team from Dallas.
9.Komets: Two Words: Chris Gallagher. Komets have for the most part had great chemistry, but adding Gallagher, Hodges and Atkins brought a new level of skill the Komets can use to win a keg.
10.Puckers: The 5-0 loss to start the season was an abberition. This team can win out the rest of its games, and this team can win the Keg. Luechenhoff should always be feared and Ryan Rintala is having a heck of a season.
11.Stickmen: It has been a rough road for the stickmen following their winning of the keg a couple seasons ago, but they are making steps to being right back in the hunt next season. David Blubaugh at Goalie has kept this team from giving up 90 goals this season as compared to 15.
12.Platinum Spiders: A very small team for the most part in number. But this team has talent where needed. A couple more players and this team can go place. Nina Bonifaz is the most underrated goalie in the league.
13.Brewzers: Not the best start the Bewzers were hoping for, but with Jamil Jabri still at the helm, anything is possible. When you have Jennifer Leonard on your team, you never get a dull moment
14.Fugaweez: The civil war on this team last season really hurt the team. However what is left has rebuilt this squad into a decent little hockey team.
15.Snipers: The loss to the Blue Devils really hurt them. Not to mention that without Jeff Vaughan, this team has a hard time winning games. We will give props to Greg Martinez, someone needs to get this guy in the Gold Division.
16.Shockers: If you want a team that goes out every night, gives it their all, then hits the bar, here you go. The best group of guys to drink with hands down. Boy do they know how to party.
17.Leftovers: They’re trying as best they can. We’ll give them that much. Leftovers need a good healthy dose of ringers. That will solve their problems. But you boys look better by the week.
