Hockey Team Wins D Title

Hockey Team won the D-League title Sunday with a 6-4 victory over the Hitmen. The Hockey team had defeated Hitmen 5-3 on Friday night in the best-of-3 format.

Mike Ross, who averaged 2.6 points per game in the regular season (32 goals in 22 games), had two goals and an assist in the championship clincher.

i-leaguers take note: noone is whining about mike ross being a ringer.

Anonymous said...

no, but people did complain about other people......

Anonymous said...

No more than anyone complaining about Chris Gallagher slumming around in I League when he had 46 Goals and 54 points with the Hitman in the Last D League session.

Besides there is a lot complaining about Hockey Team among D leaguers . They just don't choose to do so in this forum.

What's the difference? This forum or in person? Your still hearing it. It still isn't right that they play in our league. If you people like playing with ringers so much I just wish all of you would go play in D or c league together and leave us alone. You guys are always saying that playing with ringer makes you better, well join the c league and then you will be playing with 20-30 people who are better than you. Let's see how good you get then.

Anonymous said...

There are two types of ringers. One type of ringer plays a team game and helps the less skilled on the team improve. He/She includes everyone on the team and in not interested in being the scoring leader. The other are the Mike Ross of the league. They get a thrill from skating end-end, through everyone and making them look stupid while doing it. They do not make anyone else on the team better. These are the players that need to be forced to play in the appropriate league, but usually they can not bear to be an average player, so after one season playing in the appropriate league they are right back, trying to be big man on campus again.

Once Again I put the blame on your Director of Hockey Keith Andreson! He chooses to sit on his fat ass and do nothing because he knows if he makes waves and starts moving players to their appropriate levels of play that the teams will leave the DPSC and go to other rinks! It is all about the money! If Andreson starts to loose teams to other rinks he will start to get pressure from his boss to fix it! And the only way to fix it is to let the players do what they want and turn a blind eye to the problem!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Josh Briscoe can take care of it!!!

Anonymous said...

Great...

Now were getting explanations/excuses for "types of ringers". Good ringer vs. bad ringer. Appropriate vs. inappropriate. Ringers who help vs. ringers who dont.

Unbelievable...

Unknown said...

LOL! Good ringer vs. Bad Ringer!

What about the "Super Ringers"? You forgot about those!

Anonymous said...

Hey I agree with there being different types of ringers or different uses for ringers. One ringer on a bad team to make them competitive is not as bad as a ringer on an already good team. The problem is teams want to win so while they are competitive as is, they decide to bring in a hired gun to get them ver the top. Shame on the player and the team. I agree that the solution has to come from Keith, but until they start losing money because of it there won't be any changes. D'ville was terrible for allowing ringers for the last few games of the season and then the playoffs, and anyone that has seen the amount of teams over there can see what happens when players have had enough.

what sucks is that for most guys in the I league even in the D and C leagues...if they see someone better than them, it automaticaly makes that better person a ringer.

let me paraphrase what has been said pretty much over the last couple of months...

"If you are better than me, you are a ringer"

just play the damn game and shut up.

This ringer issue is going to be a problem until someone in the DPSC steps up and grows a pair.
Suggestion--Make the I-league a true I-league. INSTRUCTIONAL. Everyone that wants to learn, get better, more interested in improvement than the outcome, etc., registers and has to go through an evaluation similar to what house league junior teams have to go through.
They are graded and teams are put together (by someone with no interest in the outcome) with each team getting a few A players, a few B players, etc. Then you bring back the generic I-league sweaters, socks and you have "balanced" teams that play for the purpose of learning and getting better. In other words, INSTRUCTIONAL.
Maybe after 3 seasons or so in the I-league, you have a mandatory move-up to a D-league team unless you petition to stay
Of course, if you are going to go through all this trouble then the season will have to be much longer than 8-10 games. Probably around 20 weeks would be best. Throw in a practice every 5th week or so. And the crybabies that want to stick together because "we've been a team since 1997 and you're not splitting us up" get to move up to D-league and keep their jerseys, teams, etc together.
If you keep the "INSTRUCTIONAL" aspect at the forefront of the decison making process, then the rest is just logistics. And it can be done...ask me how I know.
If you keep the money, hurt feelings, etc at the forefront, then you get what you've got--a modified D-league that plays on Saturdays instead of Wed-Fri.
Just my 2 cents

Heres another thought, the stars center should give an incentive to a team to move up. If a team wants to move up a level, reward them for it. Give them a 10% - 15% team discount, one time only. Ask the Phantoms what the incentive now? A complete butt kicking every game. Give them credit for sticking out the season, better yet give them a discount for making the move voluntarily!

I just like to play hockey.

I don't care if I win or loss.

Ringers don't bother me. In a lot ways, they make the game better.

What hurts the game are complainers.

Let's just play hockey!

Anonymous said...

Yes, please go to NYTEX SPORTS!

Spoken like a true ringer..........

Anonymous said...

Nah, I'm not a ringer. I just think if people aren't happy they should try going somewhere else.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations Hockey Team. Now, please move up to the 'C' level.

I believe this makes the Hockey Team something like 45-4 with a few ties thrown in over the last 2 seasons.

Most of their games were not at all competitive.

Anonymous said...

Quit complaining, they only make you better. Just ask some people on this site. The Stars could play in the I league and it's OK. We the ones who just need to get better.

Anonymous said...

You guys keep complaining about ringers and saying the Starcenter should do something about it. They don't have the time to police the league every game for ringers and to evaluate their skill level. Be realistic. If you wanted that, the league would cost a lot more.

It is the team coordinators that should be held responsible. The team coordinators dictate who plays on their team. Virtually all team coordinators use or have used "ringers". SO COORDINATORS, POLICE YOURSELVES! Players, bitch at your coordinator next time they bring a ringer or bitch at them saying you don't want the ringer on the team next season.

Anonymous said...

PLEASE YOU SAY KEITH & TOM DON'T HAVE THE TIME? THATS TOTAL BULLSHIT! THEY SIT AROUND ON THEIR ASS TALKING ON THE PHONE ALL DAY LONG AND SURFING THE INTERNET OR DOING STUFF FOR THEIR TRAVEL ASSOCIATIONS AND HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS! THEY HAVE THE TIME THEY JUST CHOOSE TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT! BECAUSE IF THEY WEED OUT THE BETTER PLAYERS THE TEAMS WILL LEAVE! I AGREE WITH HAVING OPEN PLAYER EVALUATIONS, HAVE A DROP IN SESSION FOR ONE SATURDAY NIGHT BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS AND GRADE THE PLAYERS! THEN IT IS UP TO THE COORDINATORS TO PLAY BY THE RULES AND NOT USE SUBS THAT ARE NOT APPROVED BY THE STARS CENTER STAFF! IF YOU ALL HATE IT SO MUCH THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! THE PROBLEM WILL NOT FIX ITSELF! GROW SOME BALLS AND STAND UP TO THE RINGERS ON THE ICE! TELL THE OPPOSING TEAM MANAGER TO GET THEM OFF THE ICE! MAKE THEM PROVE THAT THEY ARE ON THE ORIGINAL ROSTER BEFORE THE GAME STARTS! THE PHANTOMS ARE A PERFECT EXAMPLE, THEY WON TWO KEGS IN A LITTLE OVER A YEAR IN THE "I" LEAGUE {WITHOUT RINGERS I MIGHT ADD!} THEN MOVED UP TO "D" LEAGUE! WELL GUESS WHAT THEY GOT THEIR ASSES KICKED EVERY NIGHT THEY PLAYED BUT I BET YOU WON'T SEE THEM COME CRAWLING BACK TO THE "I" LEAGUE.....

Anonymous said...

It will be interesting to see/read what the powers-that-be come up with at Thursday nights meeting.

If anything...

Anonymous said...

A simple soloution....

Your team wins the league, you automatically move up. Your team finishes last, you automatically move down to the next level.

No ringer witch hunts, just keep teams not players where they belong.

Anonymous said...

Wow everything that is being said about player evaluation and how the league should be run sounds great. The sad part is the Ice Training Center in Richardson already does these things. Sure the initial price is higher, but at least this includes your jersey and socks. There are 3 options that can be done.
1. DPSC can learn from the competition.
2. We can go to other rinks.
or
3. We just need to put up with it and play.

I hope some I-league coordinators take these comments and examples of what the competition is doing to the meeting.

Anonymous said...

I was at the last meeting and I bet it is the same line of bull shit Keith & Tom fed us the last time! When one of the co-ordinators confronted Keith and pressed him Keith got all defensive and blamed it on Knute Anderson! Sounds like typical Keith Andreson {Cover My Ass} line of shit! Good luck boys and girls! We are moving across town! better times, cheaper beer prices and lower league fees!

Anonymous said...

The only difference between The Hockey Team and the Beerflyers is that the average age of the Beerflyers is about 53. When you win one championship with one guys scoring 3 goals in the last 1:30 one season and then beating the Hitmen (a very hardworking talented team)the next and not even look like losing then it is definitely time to move up. Especially when you run up the score against every single team you play just to pad your stats. We'll see what the result is when you count how many teams leave for NYTEX in the winter session.

Anonymous said...

Keep in mind knute is running nytex. So you are just going to cry over there.

Anonymous said...

Well, since he's part owner of NYTEX now I'm pretty sure he's got a stake in keeping the players happy.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the comment that the I-League should be INSTRUCTIONAL. That should mean that the coaches ref the game (scrimmage, actually) and can whistle the game stopped at any time to talk to the players about their crummy positional play (for example). Scores/stats should not be kept at all. Ringers who want to get better can skate and learn with the rest of the I-Leaguers ... we can all stand to improve, eh?

Yes, Virginia, that means that the #$#&#$(% coaches need to, like, show the eff up to coach their teams. The players would be there to learn the game and they might show up, too.

Teams should benefit from the I-League and actually play in I- and D- ... the latter for a real game. The I-league could then be used by the D-league teams to improve their team play and individual skills.

D is supposed to be a transitional league to C, btw ... it exists for those who have learned the basics in I-League.

Anonymous said...

i agree with the above comment. there needs to be way more practicing than games. at least 50/50. there should be no playoffs. if you want playoffs move up to d league. one big problem is, at least in euless, there are just not enough leagues/levels of competition. look at the A league and you will see ex-brahamas players and other ex pro players. that puts pressure on other players that should be there. they drop to b, and some b league level players drop to c......... and it also seems like the league is bottle necked at the bottom. 15 i league teams {but take away people that play on multiple teams who knows what the number would be}, 12 D league teams, 6 c league teams, 6 b league teams, 10 a league teams {3 in euless and 7 in FB} (30 game season playing the same people all the damn time). i think there is room to move teams and people around.

Anonymous said...

Ringers are nothing but a bunch whinebags. You drop down to I-league so you have no competition, pad your scoring stats and act like its no big deal or you go up to the bar to get drunk off your ass and act like a total jackass.

Anonther thing that pisses me off is when Ringer doesn't get his way, he got to cry, bitch & moan to Knute. Even the non-ringers used to bitch at Knute and we got nowhere. And that might be one of the reasons Knute is gone.

I'm not waiting for any changes to be maid or do I give a s**t it gets maid. I'm not a ringer but I do love to bust a head wide open when I get pissed off. And any ringer who pisses me off will pay a price.

Anonymous said...

I totally agree with the 50/50 format and no stats or playoffs! move the keg trophy over to the d league and the c league! as a former coach/player at euless I have waited for weeks before I chimed in! I spent countless hours at the rink giving 110 percent to every team I coached! it was not about who won or lost, it was about teaching the game! You guys have great Ideas! now get off your ass go to the meeting and force Keith & Tom to make changes! and if they don't? then get up walk out and go play somewhere else! Remember playing hockey is not a right it is a privilage! just because you pay your money does not give you the right to step on the ice and act like a total ass!

LOL! This is becoming embarrassing for all of you guys that complain about ringers. You guys are playing in the "D" league right now without even realizing it! For you that were around last session, I guarantee you have gotten better because the speed of the game has gotten better.

The only way to learn hockey is to just play. I don't care if you are 100 steps behind the play to start, you will eventually start moving your legs better and learn your boundaries faster! Once you learn what you can and can't do, then you can work on what you need to.

I am so sick of hearing about "HOCKEY PLAYERS" complaining about better players. BE HOCKEY PLAYERS..this isn't effing soccer.

For all the players that are just starting off....seriously think of it as if you were a kid and playing against bigger and stronger kids. You might not like it that you get pushed around a little bit, but before you know it you are keeping pace and improving every game. You guys can't tell me that you go home after a game and don't think how you played and compare it to the last time you started! You all do, we all do!

All you can do is go play the game and believe in yourself. If you can't believe in yourself, then you will never believe in anyone else trying to help you get better.

BE A HOCKEY PLAYER AND EITHER QUIT OR PLAY TO GET BETTER....

Unknown said...

I love how you guys remain ANONYMOUS!
I play to play the game...I play to help everyone on my bench and I have done so from the beginning. The reason why we started the Borrachos is to get the dad's of the kids we coach to learn and play hockey. We are a very close team and everyone, I mean EVERYONE has improved this season. I go to Grapevine once a week to help and play with the guys on my team. We are all trying to get better and NOBODY on our team ever complains about ringers or better hockey players. EVERY post and pre game discussion in our room is about our own game and what we can do to win. We have lost 4 in a row and haven't blamed anyone but ourselves...Be men guys...that's all I can say

Anonymous said...

Hey the more you play the better you'll get and soon maybe you'll be the ringer. The biggest problem in I league is when the coaches (and players) start going for the win and put their "ringer" out for power plays, penalty kills, or any other critical spot in the game. It is "I" league for a reason, it's hard to learn while you're sitting on the bench watching some "ringer" take your turn on the ice.

And Jimmy take a pill will ya, no one needs to start fighting, sheesh!

YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. SIRKIS IS A COACH. IF YOU'RE GOING TO CRY, AT LEAST GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.

Anonymous said...

Look guys. It's quite simple.

If you play one level down, it's OK.

If you are playing 2 levels down, shame on you.

It is not true that "ringers" make everyone else better. Ringers at every level try to do it all themselves. That is why they are called ringers.

There are good hockey players that don't have to be ringers.

If you take the puck behind your own net, skate through the entire team, ignore open teammates and try to score, then you are both an ass and a ringer.

My name is Steve Livesay and I am #42 on the Borrachos. (Wow, a name with a comment).

I am one of the worst skaters on our team, and I am personally having a blast.

Seems to me that some of you have forgotten the point about playing...fun, competition, comaraderie, beer.

We have all of those things on the Borrachos. If you don't, maybe you should think about changing teams, rinks, or sports.

It is amazing to me that people have such strong opinions about things (which you should) but don't have the balls to put their names behind their opinions. If it is important enough for you to say, it seems you should want to put your name behind it. A REAL hockey player would.

Jim Stuckeman is a real hockey player.

A REAl hockey player that should be playing in a different league. It's easy to say your having fun when you got 2 or 3 ringers that keep you in games. Without those guy it would be that fun, just ask the Stickmen.

And once again.....

Your REAL hockey name is.....???

I-League *does* need a movie night. They should project movies on the wall of the Crossbar, levy a nominal charge to watch, then slash the hell out of alcohol/nacho prices for those occasions. For serious. If they made any profit, perhaps they could invest in, I don't know, wet rags to wipe down the tables once a week. Or they could pay an urchin a few pennies to pick up all the GAWDAMN nutshells on the carpet.

It's the little things, you know?
