Week 7: I league

So with one more week to go before playoffs, we believe we have our Keg teams...As for the rest of the league, great games occured...

Patriots 4 Spiders 2
I league Game of the Night Part I was a classic. Both teams needed a win to stay in the Keg hunt, but more on that later. Spiders coming off their barnburner against the Blue Devils while the Pats came off their heartbreaker to the Ice Holes. Play started out with the Spiders striking first on a goal from Patti Greco on a nice set up from Linda Mason. The Pats responded on a lazer wrist shot that painted the top corner from Jeff Eagle to knot the game at 1-1. Pats then took a 2-1 lead on Nate Hodges’ sassy breakaway goal and never looked back. Rahul Sharma added 2 strikes to extend the lead to 4-1. (what, Patriots showing offense!?!). Spiders then got a nice goal on a one timer from Chris Gallagher, his 6th goal of the season. But Pats Goalie Jesse Gonazles denies the spiders the rest of the way as the Patriots regain control of 3rd place. Gonzales has won 15 straight I league games….that’s gotta be a record.

Los Komets 5 Shockers 1
Komets went on a hockey jihad against the scrappy Shockers in their biggest margin of victory in franchise history. The stingy Komets D only allowed the Shockers 7 shots on the night. The Komets got their “game winner” from Sean Kier, while Alex Adkins, Gerald Kappers, Melissa Ross, and Rich Duval also added goals in a game of simple domination. Shockers did have a couple chances and were able to get a goal from Otto Bleiss. This team should continue to get better especially into next session. Shockers drop to 1-6 in their young existence, while the Komets continue to gel and improve to 4-3. As quoted by a member of the Fugaweez, “Fear the Komets”.

True.com 5 Blue Devils 2
True.com continues to shock and awe the league as they are winners of 3 of their last 5. T.C. (we are too lazy to type the full abbreviation), built a 4-0 lead in the first period by getting 2 goals from David Benson while Jason Bellows and Bryan Perry also added scores for the early lead. In the 2nd period the Blue Devils looked to make a response by cutting the score to 4-2 by getting goals from Chris Zolle and Terry Newman. But True.com dashed any hope as Tim O’Donnell lit the lamp to re-gain the 3 point lead. A scoreless third period then followed. We talked to some BDs after the game, they were downtrodden, but not defeated. Beer must have been real cold.

Stingers 6 Wolverines 1
What the heck man!? Stingers apparently owned the 2nd period against the shorthanded wolverines (9 skaters). The Kick Arse Jersey’ Stingers drew first blood from Ronald Widdman while the wolverines stuck back 11 seconds later from Chris Conner. Then late in the second, the wheels came off for the wolverines. Rick White and Jason Isham both struck to make the score 3-1 Stingers and it just got progressively worse for wolverine fans. White got his second goal of the night as did Widdman while Josh Briscoe also got one in the plundering of the W’s. Coach Bobby Sirkis Jr comments on the game: “#&$@#”

Puckers 3 Brewzers 1
Puckers win their 3rd straight with a nice win in this one. Brewzers got the first one from Ken early in the first. Late in the first, lucky puckers got 2 goals from and Rob Constantine for the 2-1 lead. He would then get his 2nd of the night midway through the third for the 3-1 advantage. Puckers Goalie “Doug”? stops 13 of 14 shots on the night. While Matt Moore for the Brewzers stops 18 of 21.

Fugaweez 2 Ice Holes 1
I League Game of the Night Part II featured another classic Fugaweez game. Fugs needed a win plus a Pats win over the Spiders to punch their ticket to the keg game. Fugaweez got the 1-0 lead on a Derrick Tillemons goal in the 2nd. In the 3rd Steve Junker hits the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1, when late in the third (again) the Fugs find some later game heroics, this time from Scott Dolbee to get the 2-1 lead, which would hold up for the final. A battle of goalies was fought as Bobby Michaelides stops 12 of 13 while Ice Holes Netminder David Giesecke stops 8 of 10. More on the Keg later…

Stickmen 3 Snipers 0
The Stickmen played normal stickmen hockey in this one. Goals from Luke Scheeinfurth, Tim James and Ken Halford as the Stickmen pretty much never had anything to worry about in this one, only giving up 10 shots on the night. Un-officially, the Stickmen should be far enough ahead on tiebreakers to clinch their spot in the keg, we must verify with Knute.

The Keg game: So with all said and done, the Fugs are in and the Stickmen are 99.9% in, awaiting the blessing of Knute.
Fugs own the head to head tie breaker against the Pats, while if the stickmen were to lose next week and the pats win, the Stickmen would have the fewest loss tiebreaker still. This feels like the BCS all over again….

As stated above, nothing is certified until Knute says so.

In other news…..I league/ D League Tournament is Dec. 29-31. More info on that coming soon.

Stickmen vs. Fugaweez for the Keg game! Or it's Ugs vs. Thugs! It's going to be interesting seeing the two teams beat each others brains out. Stretchers will be waiting!

So fewer losses beats total wins? Even the NHL gets it that you must win in order to get the position.

Wouldn't an OTL still count as a loss?

Re: OT Losses...
thats what we need to check with Knute about.

But if the standings hold, the stick vs thug game will be a bloody viking battle.

Thor would be pleased.

How about we switch games with the Puckers and end your hopes heads up?

Who is "we"?

that would be interesting...
i wonder if the Pats and Stickmen would actualy rescheduel for a showdown.

after all...didnt the Patriots vs Stickmen game get scrubbed in an earlier season reshuffling of the schedule?

I believe the Pats and Stickmen have unfinished business on the ice.

the fugz vs. the ice holes game should exemplify what this league is all about. after every whistle, shot, save, goal, good play, etc. the combatants were tapping gloves, patting helmets and showing tremendous sportsmanship and appriciation for a well fought hard nosed game between two great teams!!
