News just in: Keg Round moves up a week
Knute has issued the remaining season schedule, and there have been a few changes. Most prominently, the season has been shortened by a week -- to the usual 12 weeks instead of 13. So, no, you're not being ripped off. The sessions are always 12 weeks.
The Keg Round is now March 18 instead of March 25.
Here's a look:
Schedule for the Keg Round, March 18
Game for Third Place (3-4), 8 p.m., Green Rink
Game for the Stanley Keg (1-2), 9 p.m., Gold Rink
Game for Fifth Place (5-6), 9:15 p.m., Green Rink
Game for Seventh Place (7-8), 10:15 p.m., Gold Rink
Game for Ninth Place (9-10), 10:30 p.m., Green Rink
Week 7 results
Brewzers 4, Stickmen 0: Jamil Jabril scores twice in the second period for Brewzers, who dominate this game thoroughly. Andrew Thomas and Matt Walker add goals, with assists to Lee Bailey and Ken Thomas. Stickmen manage just 9 shots. If standings hold, these two teams could meet in the keg round.
Phantoms 5, Blue Devils 1: Five different Phantoms score in an easy victory: James Highfill, Bobby Sirkis, Scott Alcon, Jason Neal, Cory Howard. Assists go to Howard, Neal, Mike Skupien and a fourth player whose name is illegible. The low-scoring Blue Devils get an unassisted third-period goal from defenseman Ray Workman. We’re not in the prediction business, but … hey Patriots, watch out for those Phantoms. Lots of offensive talent. If not for Week 2 loss to Fugaweez, Phantoms could challenge for the title.
Fugaweez 1, Patriots 0: Derek Tillemans scores at 7:26 of the second period to give Fugaweez the victory. Carl Moser gets the assist. Patriots, now on a two-game skid, get just 11 shots. They’d better get it together quickly: Phantoms come calling Saturday night, with second place on the line. Fugaweez, meanwhile, could capitalize big on a Phantoms win. If they can beat the last-place Snipers, Fugaweez would have 10 points and a second-place tie. But a Week 2 victory over Phantoms would give them the head-to-head advantage ... if we have the rules figured correctly.
Spyders 1, REDRUM 1 (tie): Heather Gray scores with 26 seconds left for the Spyders to force the tie. Chris Kirton scores for Redrum on a Guy Riggs assist. Only 25 shots between both teams. Spyders win 13-12. ... It’s Redrum’s fourth tie of the season. Hey Knute, what about shootouts next season? ... If standings hold, these guys appear headed for a keg-round rematch.
Ice Holes 2, Snipers 1: Ice Holes stay on track for the keg with goals by Phillip Hussey and No. 5 (who’s name isn’t listed on the sheet). Assists to Nicholle Palomar, Peter Neift and Lee Jennings. Snipers get a Scott Hughes goal. Assists by Brett Fitch and Roger Bishop.
