I league Week 6: Controversies erupt...

A Very Controversial Week 6 unfolded on Saturday as we saw a couple key goals not counted in some games, a Game Protest, OT and Shootouts, and tons of chaos in the standings. 2 games left….6 teams still in the running for the 2 keg spots.

Snipers 3 Stingers 2 OT
Snipers get their first win of the season on Jesse Henderson’s OT goal (from what we can tell on the stat sheet). From the looks of it, some tempers flared in this one. 17 shots per side in this one. Snipers other two goals from Andrew Julian and Alex Eyesermans. Stingers two goals came from 2 dudes whose names we can’t read….we look to the people for answers.

Spiders 5 Blue Devils 4
Blood was shed on the ice in this one. We hope Chris Gallagher is feeling better. In this offensive showdown, rumors are flying that there was a goal not counted for the Blue Devils that the refs missed. Both squads were tied at 3-3 going into the third. Mike Lambert had the hat trick while Pete Clark had the winner for the shorthanded Spiders, whose keg dreams are still alive. Irvin Manato had the Spiders’ other tally. We know that whenever the Spiders scored in this one, the BD answered right back. Blue Devils got 2 goals apiece from Ray Workman and Terry Newman.

True.com 5 Fugaweez 4
Fugs saw their undefeated season come to an end as True.com pulls the upset in this one in a slug fest of goals. 13 penalties in this game, wow. One even coming at the same time a goal was scored….Dallas Lehr = Terrell Owens? The game see-sawed back in forth with the fugs answering every goal true.com put in. We have heard another “phantom” goal was not counted in this one for True.com…what’s up with the refs? But the real drama occurred with 6 seconds left in the game as Matt Bailey buries his third of the night. Other True.com goals from Tim O’Connell and Jason Bellows. Fugaweez got goals from Carl Moser, Craig Newland, Matt Osborne and the above mentioned Dallas Lehr.

Puckers 4 Komets 1
Now for the controversy of the night….the results in this one are still pending, as the Komets are officially protesting this game.
According to a Komet’s Spokeman, the protest is concerning a possible Illegal C League sub for the Puckers…We’ll let Knute figure this one out. But as for this game Kevin Luchenhoff gets this hat trick for the lucky puckers to snap the Komets winning Streak. Rob Constantine with the puckers “game winner” on the night. Komets lone goal game from Scott Baldree on the Dustin Nation assist.
We’ll keep you informed of pending litigation…..But the standing do reflect a Puckers victory.

Brewzers 1 Shockers 0
Only one goal in this one coming in the first period for a guy named “Stephen”. Wow...(powerdown on scorekeepers). Mike Moore for the Brewzers and Chris Duran for the Shockers both had stellar games with Moore stopping 13 of 13 while Duran kicked aside 14 of 15. There’s so little on the statsheet, we’ll even list the one penalty in this game: Brewzer’s own Britt Brestrom got sent to the sin bin for tripping in the third period.

Ice Holes 3 Patriots 1
The Surging Ice Holes pull the upset on this one in a very un-patriotic game. Pats, who were without Jesse Gonzales, surrendered 25 shots on the night while only putting up 7 shots of their own. Patriots were up 1-0 going into the third thanks to the Butch Hutchinson goal. But the Ice Holes would knot it at 1-1 on a Jared Junker score. It appeared we were headed for OT but with 1:34 left, Nicholle Palomar lit the lamp for the Ice Holes Advantage. The Empty netter just made the game formal as Jared Junker got his second of the night. Tough Loss for the Patriots who could have made up ground against Fugs and Stickmen, now have to win and get help to get into the keg. Ice Holes on the other hand are on fire and are right there in the keg mix with a colossal game against the Fugaweez on Dec. 2nd.

Wolverines 1 Stickmen 0 (Shootout)
Dallas Lehr gets the shootout winner for the shorthanded Wolverines. Stickmen regain first place against the Fugaweez based on tiebreakers though. This was a goaltending fiesta as Steve McColister for the Stickmen kicked aside 24 of 24 before the shootout, while Wolverines Goalie Chris Duran held perfect on 28 of 28.
