What happened in G-Vine?

So, Komets, how did it go in Grapevine Friday night? Let us know.

In other news, we stumbled on this old Saturday Night Live video featuring your own Dallas Stars Ambassador of Fun, Brett Hull. Click here.

Wanna play at the AAC?

Anyone who wants to play one of those pickup games at the American Airlines Center on Jan. 15 should drop a line to Samantha Arthur at sarthur9@netzero.net

For the uninitiatied, this is where a bunch of guys and gals like us get to play on the Stars' ice before or after a game in a regulation setting w/clock and officials. You also get a Platinum-level ticket to the game (in this case, the LA Kings).

The game is a 3 p.m. start for MLK Day, so the game you play would be afterward, in the evening. They also feed you an above-average meal and treat you to a talk from a Stars official or, if you're lucky, a player. The experience is a total blast, well worth the roughly $130 cost. Heck, the face value on the game ticket is nearly that much.

Samantha is trying to help someone fill out a team that has a few slots left. I assume the teams are I-League or D-League level.

Photo above: Nate "Little Ball of Hate" Hodges in a game at the AAC last month. Not sure what Olsen is looking at here. The play is going the other way.

It Was Worth Staying Up For ...

For those who didn't see the Stars game last night, you missed a classic. From Stefan unbelievably missing the open net FROM INSIDE THE CREASE in the final seconds of regulation to the Oilers tying it with 2 seconds left to another awesome Jokinen goal in the shootout, it was a heartstopper. Hot Sports Opinion

USA Today's Ted Montgomery has this to say about your Dallas Stars in his New Year's column:
"The Dallas Stars will storm into the postseason as one of the league's hottest teams, mainly on the strength of their goaltending and defense, but will fall short of going to the finals."

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Read the column here.

Euless vs. Grapevine

A birdie says the fifth installment of the Euless-Grapevine I-League Death Match is tomorrow night in Grapevine, and Euless coordinator Bruce Frankel of the Komets still has a few spots to fill. Leave a message here if you're interested, and we'll let Bruce know.

For the record, we've never lost one of these games. None of the games has really been close, but they're always fun.

D-League Update

Welcome back, D-Leaguers. Seems like a year since that miserable night the beloved home team got drubbed by the Beerflyers ... but we digress.

A bunch of guys and gals trekked over to Duncanville last week for the Christmas tourney. The competition was great -- lots of overtime games and shootouts. The refereeing, on the other hand, was abhorrent. We've never seen worse. There was one in particular who shall go unnamed except for his name started with "C" and ended with "onte." Can I get an amen, my brothers and sisters?

We don't know who ended up winning the thing. If you know, leave a note here. When we left, the Ice Dogs (not our Ice Dogs) were playing Team Cody for the D-League title, while our Spiders played Frisco's BlueJackets in the I-League championship.

The schedule resumes with a double dip tonight.

Here's the schedule:
Tonight:
Hitmen (6-3) vs. Stickmen (3-5), 10:15 p.m. UPDATE: Hitmen squeaked by, 1-0, on a third-period goal.
Hockey Team (8-0-1) vs. Misfits (7-2), 10:30 p.m. UPDATE: Hockey Team spanked 'em, 6-0.
Thursday:
Mid-Cities (3-6) vs. Phantoms (0-10), 10:15 p.m.
Friday:
Stickmen (3-5) vs. Beerflyers (8-1), 9 p.m.
Ice Dogs (1-7-1) vs. Blue Devils (6-3), 10:30 p.m.
Wolverines (5-3-2) vs. Kings (3-5-0), 11:55 p.m.
Sunday:
Yokels (6-4-1) vs. Hitmen (6-3), 10:45 p.m.
