Looking Back...

As we begin another chapter in the great book of Euless I League Hockey, we decided to look back in the ancient archives to see who has won the ultimate hockey prize.

Apparently only 2 teams have won back to back kegs.

September 2006: Phantoms
June 2006: Wolverines/Brewzers
March 2006: Fugaweez
December 2005: Fugaweez/Ice Holes
September 2005: Phantoms
June 2005: Stickmen
March 2005: Ice Holes
December 2004: Snipers
August 2004: Rink Rats
May 2004: Rink Rats
Feb. 2004: Thrashers (aka rink rats)
November 2003: 'Cudas
August 2003: Ranchers

So pretty much Rink Rats have the cake with 3 keg wins, not to mention a three-peat.
The Fugaweez and Ice Holes both with 2 kegs can challenge that all time mark. Unless the Phantoms plan a reunion tour of I league, they will stay at 2.
Snipers, Stickmen, Wolverines, and Brewzers still have a little bit to go with the 1 keg place.
But to the old teams of the past, you are not forgotten.

note: The Scroll was old and translating it from ancient egyptian while watching hockey was fairly difficult, so if we forgot something, excuse the mess.

Ready to Roll ....

Don't look now but the Leaves are changing colors and its not 104 out anymore......its only 90.
Must be fall!

While the Phantoms are still recovering from their respective celebration hangovers, the higher-ups have released the first practice for this weekend....

So without Further Delay....

Saturday 9/30

Spiders Stingers: 7:45pm

Ice Holes Fugaweez: 9pm

Komets Blue Devils: 10pm

Brewzers Patriots: 10:15pm

Puckers Snipers: 11:15pm

True.com Stickmen: 11:30pm
(we dont know much about team "True.Com". We just report what our leader Knute tells us)

Wolverines REDRUM: 12:30am (wow....)

Euless-GV Game Anyone?

The Grapevine I-Leaguers are interested in challenging us again. However, we'll not take an all-star team as we did in the past. (see previous postings on lopsided results)

If any coordinators want to take an entire existing I-League team, we will help you line up the game. That will make for an even and interesting matchup. The game would be Friday, Oct. 13. This could be a good tuneup for next season, since our I-League won't have started playing fall games yet.

The first interested coordinator to email blogcaptain@yahoo.com gets the hookup.

Phantoms Finish Perfect Season

Another great season wrapped up in the wee hours Sunday. Great job, ladies and gents. Don't look now, but another season starts in only six days. Count us out this time -- our family needs its Saturday nights back. But fear not, loyal reader, one of the folks listed below will be taking over as chief I-League scribe. More on that later.

If anyone has other digital pictures from Saturday's games, email them to us and we'll put them on the site. Email: blogcaptain@yahoo.com

Phantoms 2, Patriots 1 (shootout): The Phantoms skated the Stanley Keg after Ryan Smith scored the shootout goal that completed a perfect 9-0 season and capped a great defensive struggle. The Patriots struck first, on Ray Haenselman's unassisted goal with 1:04 left in the second period. Cory Howard evened it up early in the third. Above photo courtesy of Mr. Smith's friend Kelly Martin.

Stingers 2, Spiders 0: In the game for third place, Jason Isham had a goal and assist to lead the Stingers. David Edwards scored the other one. Dana "The Eclipse" Fenili stopped all 14 shots that came his way.

Wolverines 5, Stickmen 2: In the game for fifth place, Chris Conner scored a pair to put the shorthanded Stickmen away. Other goals were by Robert Sirkis, Tony Davis and Shazad Nazir. (Scorekeeper Chris gave Shazad's goal to Mike Drago, but Drago had the assist.) Greg Mersberger, Conner and brother Brian Conner also had assists. Jim O'Reilly had both goals for the Stickmen, with Tony Eggleston getting an assist.

Ice Holes 1, Snipers 0: Steve Junker scored the only goal in the game for seventh place, assisted by Joan Crock and Jared Junker. Goalie Doug Taylor got the shutout, stopping 8 shots behind typically stingy Ice Holes defense.

Blue Devils 4, Brewzers 3 (overtime): Jeron Gibson got the winning goal in overtime of the game for seventh place. David Ogle and Dan Glein got credit for assists. The Brewzers went out to a 3-1 lead with second-period goals by Andy Thomas, Dennis Cotton and Steve Daniels. But the BDs came back on Mike Drago's goal (assist Ray Workman) as time ran out in the second and John Dwyer's score (assist Matt Patchen and Randy Perry) with 3:26 to go. Good goaltending on both sides by Mike Redmon (BDs) and Mike Moore.

Puckers 5, REDRUM 1: In the game for 11th place, Rob Constantine scored a pair and added an assist to lead the Lucky Puckers. Mike Vogel added a goal and assist. Other goals were by Brent Lasse and Dallas Lehr. Lehr and Lasse each also snagged an assist. For REDRUM, there was a third-period goal by Jason Howell.

Fugaweez 5, Komets 4: The Komets gave a game effort in the duel for last place, but the Fugaweez held on, thanks to a pair of goals and an assist by Dallas Lehr. Andy Thomas, Clark Sandlin and Dan "G Man" Grimes also scored. Grimes notched an assist, too. Eric Anderson had a pair for the Komets. Other goals: Mike Gallagher and Mark Gragg. Nate Hodges added an assist.
