New D-League Champ: Blue Devils
The Blue Devils won the first championship in franchise history (I- or D-league) last night by sweeping Hockey Team in the D-League finals.
Mark Cameron's goal held up to force a scoreless overtime, and Greg Sargent scored the lone shootout goal as the BDs prevailed 2-1. We can't find the scoresheet on Pointstreak. (Why do they have such a hard time getting that right in the playoffs?)
Goalie Terry Redmon, aka Frank the Tank, was on his head again. HT had about 35 shots and got only the one. Redmon knocked away all five in the shootout and ended up allowing one goal on more than 70 shots in the series. He was easily the series MVP.
Congrats to Blue Devils everywhere. The curse is broken.
And, congrats to HT for a hard-fought series.
