Need a Goalie?

Received an email this afternoon from a D-League goalie in Duncanville who's looking to pick up another team in either C or D league. The catch is he's looking for games NOT on Fridays. Since D-league games are all on Friday this season, the poor fella seems out of luck.

But if anyone wants to contact him, drop me a line. The email link is at right.

D-League: Free practice this week

Regarding that belated D-League announcement, some anonymous coordinator posted this email from Yockey as a comment ... we assume it to be authentic.

Teams,

Listed below is the schedule for this Friday D League. We are having a free practice to help teams gather their paperwork for registration. Also allowing additional time to get your VIP Photo Card.

7:45pm: MisFits and Blue Devils
7:45pm: Yokels and Ice Dragons
9:15pm: Kings and Stickmen
9:15pm: Van Buren Boys and MidCities
10:45pm: Hitmen (A)
10:45pm: Ice Dogs and Hitmen (B)

Free agents will be told to show up to skate with teams that have expressed a need for players.

If you are still in need of players, let me know.;

Sincerely,

Tom Yockey

By the way, note there's a drop-in game tonight at 9:15-11p. What say we make it a D-League drop-in?

Week 1: I leauge...

Word has come down from the League Office and the first games are released...

6:15pm Gold Brewzers vs. Warriors:
A very interesting match up that pits Dallas Lehr's Warriors against Andy Thomas' Brewzers. This should actually be a flippin good game to watch. We saw how Dallas was slave driving his players in practice on Saturday, that team should be ready to play, especially after the checking drills.

7:30pm Gold Patriots vs Komets:
A rematch of last years keg game had to be played at some point in time this season. Both squads have lost some players, while on the same side, gained some players. We looked into the record books and in a regular season matchup of the previous season's championship, the championship loser is victorious 86.4% of the time. We'll see what happens this Saturday. I mean after all, the last time the keg game was replayed the next season, the Patriots beat Mayhem 3-0.

7:45pm Green Blue Devils vs Snipers:
Ray Workman will look to bring the D league championship anointing to the I league Blue Devils and make the franchise into the empire it was destined to be. Snipers had a pretty solid team last season, but just were a couple players short of success. Did they add those players in the off season? Or where they like the Stars and had their biggest off season move come in the form of new jerseys? Snap!

8:45pm Gold Ice Holes vs Leftovers:
The Ice Holes will be good, as the Ice Dragons have pretty much committed to beating up on the I league again with suffocating defense. Leftovers pretty much imploded and coach Bobby Sirkis found himself with 7 players. "I Had such a S*#ty season last session, that I am suspending myself as both a player and coach for one game."

9pm Green Spiders vs Stickmen
Spiders could be a very good team as rumor has it the Black Widows and Spiders have combined. If this is the case, fear this team. The more important question, can Tom "Foolery" Yockey finally win a championship?. The Stickmen on the same side will have all their players returning, plus their goalie in David Blubaugh is returning, which always keeps the Stickmen as a threat.

Predictions...??
no idea....this league has more parody than todays NCAA Football and the NFL....combined.

What's next? Ear muffs?

This just seems crazy. The NHL is going to game-test a nutty-sounding invention: Heated skate blades. It's supposed to make you faster. Wayne Gretzky is an investor in the product, called Thermablade.

I know a few guys in D-league who could use these things, yours truly included. But, truthfully, sounds like a big pain in the arse to recharge your skate batteries every two games. I have a hard enough time getting my stuff out of the bag to dry.

Read all about it here.

See how it works here.

By the way, anybody heard what's up with the fall d-league schedule? Season was supposed to start last week, but still no word. Other StarCenters have schedules posted and were starting Wednesday.

What's up?
