Hockey Team and Blue Devils will meet in a best-of-3 title series after both prevailed Tuesday night.
The hated (by all but their wives) HTs prevailed in a penalty-marred (more than 20) 6-3 victory over the Misfits. Eric Mask (attempt to injure match penalty) and Scott Skurdalsvold (fighting game misconduct) will miss the finals for their transgressions. Misfits led this one 3-2 near the end of the second period.
The BDs hung three second-period goals on the Yokels in their 4-2 win. Greg Sargent had a goal and an assist. Terry Redmon stopped 29 of 31 shots, not including one from a teammate that almost caught the corner. Yikes.
Game 1 of the finals is Thursday night.

Patriots win!
Patriots 2 Komets 1Patriots defeat their demons win their first championship in franchise history. It wasn’t the Patriots best performance of the season, by far, but it was certainly enough to beat the komets. It was the final I league appearance for both Chris Gallagher and Nate Hodges who both had their retirement press conferences following the game, a tearful moment for both guys. This game was blessed by the presence of several of the Mayhem squad who made it their point to boo Hodges whenever he touched the puck. For the Komets, Chris Gallagher was the force that he always is, as he briefly stunned the patriots by getting the first score of the game. However the patriots roared back, only problem was they hit post after post and missed open net after open net. Many of the patriots believed the hockey gods were again, against them. However the patriots finally struck on a Greg Helenbrook goal on a Butch Hutchinson assist. A glorious goal in which shredded Komet defenders and humbled Komets goalie Brent Bryant. The patriots continued to dominate play but could not seem to get the goals to fall. In the third period, the game was still tied at 1-1, when Butch Hutchinson scores off the draw for the go ahead marker. Patriots then for the rest of the period dominated play but couldn’t get any more insurance markers. Komets then threw everything they had in Gallagher, Nation and Baldree, but not even that solid line could crack the solid Patriots defense. As the clock hit 0.00, all of America rejoiced as the Patriots lifted the keg, and silenced the haters. Jeff Vaughan smiled, a crippled Dallas Lehr laughed, and Tom Yockey was pissed as he had to hug Hodges at the presentation ceremony. The MVP of this game was by far Butch Hutchinson whose play was near perfect on the night and was a force on the bench. Right next to him was Steve Benefield who was a backchecking warrior and was hungry like the wolf whenever the puck was near him. Truly, a glorious season for the Pats. Amen.
Btw…we were inspired by the Patriots shutout win over Mayhem…

This would have made an excellent keg game as well, not to mention the fact many thought one of these teams should have played the Pats for the keg…but that’s another story for another time. Ice Holes get their winning goal from “Graves” (we can’t wait for friggin pointstreak)…and that was all they needed for the win. Goalie Doug Taylor shut down the team of hot spiders chick, while the hottest one, Melissa Munn, could not score…some say her being mentioned on this blog has cursed her…we beg to differ. Both teams, if they keep the same people, should be EXCELLENT contenders next season. From the way the black widows were partying upstairs...you would have thought they won the keg...
Puckers 7 Leftovers 2
This wasn’t much of a game, puckers were in control of this one since the beginning of time, and just freaking obliterated the leftovers. From coach bobby sirkis, “Damn, this team sucks.” Puckers had goals from their stars as Rob Constantine nets the hat trick, Ryan Rintala scores twice, while Kevin Luchenhoff and “Ward” scored in the route. Leftovers did get a couple just to be competitive from Chris Gallagher (who randomly was playing in this one) and the great Junior Lindamood who finished the season leading the team in scoring. Rumor has it the leftovers may be dissolved next season.
Spiders 7 Blue Devils 3
Blue Devils end what was the worst season in their existence by not only having almost no one show up for their game, but getting obliterated at the same time. The Spiders showed they were for real and hopefully will be a contender next season as they showed excellent offensive prowess and skills in defeating the shorthanded BD. Chris Gallagher had two goals and two assists, Brian Conture has two goals, while Andrew Patti, Pete Clark and a mysterious spider also score in the route. While the collapse of the blue devils this season has been expected, no one thought it would really happen. The answer is clear…the Blue Devils need Mike Drago to resurrect the empire…
Stickmen 2 Brewzers 1
We are basing this entire recap off one Jesse Henderson’s recap via text messages…
“I was the hero of this game for the most part. David Blubaugh played excellent in net, but needed his offense to score some to bail him out at the end. We won 2-1 baby, Steve Daniels missed being a hero for the Brewzers by about one second as he scored right after time had expired. This can only be explained by the fact that Steve is still the second best player from Granbury (behind me of course). Glory is mine!”

D-League Playoffs
The schedule is out for playoffs this week. The big question was whether Hockey Team was in or out. Well, they're in, and as the No. 1 seed. Think about that what you will.
Anyway, our friends over at the Euless Sr Stars blog (Who are doing a nice job, if only because they mention me.) are predicting Hockey Team won't survive the first round. Hmmm. We predict HT won't send out quite the same short-bench team we've seen since the aborted move to C league.
Here's the schedule:

I league previews...
Championship: 1. Patriots vs 2. Komets 9:15pm
Patriots will have two things to face in this game: Chris Gallagher and their ghosts from past Championships lost. If they can beat those two things...the Patriots will have the keg.
3rd: 3. Ice Holes vs 4. Black Widows 9pm
This would have also been an AWESOME keg game, and perhaps one of these teams should be playing the patriots this weekend...we'll see what happens. But a bunch of awesome hot hockey chicks against a solid defensive squad in the ice holes should be awesome.
5th: 5. Stickmen vs 6. Brewzers 8pm
A revenge match up as the Brewzers last game beat the living crap out of the stickmen. We'll see if the sticks can somehow go out with honor.
7th: 7. Blue Devis vs 8. Spiders 7:45pm
Blue devils are failing horribly this season, we'll see if they can some how salvage this season or if the spiders will have a decent .500 season by winning this one.
9th: 9. Warriors vs 10. Snipers 6:45pm
Warriors also had better hopes for the season, we'll see who can score more goals...Eric Johnson or Rob Mustell
11th: 11. Puckers vs 12. Leftovers 6:30pm

Ice Holes 1 Warriors 0
Once again the warriors drop a heart breaking 1-0 loss as the Ice Holes win their game, hoping for help to somehow sneak into the title game. John Bird scores the game winner, however it was goalie Doug Taylor who held his own during the final Warrior onslaught to preserve the victory. Props to Bobby Michaelides who faces 24 shots on the night and stopped all but one of them.
Black Widows 4 Puckers 3.
Black Widows faced a team of “mercenaried” puckers who brought in several Ice Holes into this one. BW had their best performance of the season so far (and no Tom Yockey on the bench). It was the newest addition to the Black Widows that made us impressed by the hot and very talented Melissa Munn who was basically freakin amazing. Munn puts up two goals and an assist while Peanut Raliff and a mysterious #44 had the goals for the BW. One the flip side it was Nelkamp, Guy Riggs, and Pilcher who scored for the puckers. This one was a pretty good game to watch. If the Black Widows keep this team together next season, they’ll be pretty much unstoppable.
Patriots 2 Snipers 1
A very shorthanded patriots squad dishes out a decent performance against a very stacked snipers squad. This game featured the glorious return of Jeff Vaughan whose very presence defeated the hearts of the snipers squad just a little. It was Travis Lehr who caught fire in this one, scoring twice for the Pats. Jamil Jabri scored the lone goal from the snipers late to make the game interesting, but the patriots once again played excellent D along with some excellent saves from Phillip Talley. The challenge of the night was the Pats taking on Rob Mustell who put up 4 goals and an assist last week, however Mustell was curtailed as was the snipers. Props given to the snipers for throwing everything they had in this one. Patriots with the win will make their 3rd keg appearance in a year.
Brewzers 5 Stickmen 0
In what has been one of the strongest teams as of late, the brewzers are like….amazing? The brewzers once again dash the hope of a playoff contender, this time with a thrashing of the stickmen. Dave Runyon scores twice, while Steve Daniels, Rob Walker, and Matt Walker also score in this one. This one was dominated by the brewzers who threw 31 shots on the Sticks’. We don’t think even the Patriots would want to deal with the Brewzers right now, damn that team looked good…
Komets 3 Blue Devils 2
Several things happened in this one…lets start with scoring…After a scoreless first the Blue Devils struck first on our favorite teddy bear: Ray Workman’s goal. (more on workman later). Komets retaliated with an Alex Atkins goal. Blue Devils would then grab the lead again on a Chris Zolle strike for the 2-1 lead with under a minute left in the period. In the third, the komets would rally, yet again as Bryan Brookman scores the equalizer midway through the frame. It would then be the great Bruce “Old man and the Sea” Frankel off a Mike “Tony Romo” Gallagher for the winner with a minute left in the game. However the story in this one was the fact that the hot Bev Schlueter beat the living *#&$ out of Ray “Turtle” Workman. I mean geeze dude…you got your ass kicked. This fight was hilarious to hear about as Schlueter not only took out workman, then started roughing it up with Olson…comedy abounds. Sure, schlueter is suspended for the keg game, but who cares…it was fun to watch…see below. Anyways… The win gets the komets two must have points, and the komets get the head to head tie breaker over the Ice Holes for a date with the Patriots next week for it all.....oh here's the video we got from a random komet....

Spiders 4 Leftovers 1
Once again, no Tom Yockey on the bench means a victory for another spiders squad. The Spiders relied heavily on Evan Callahan and Andrew Patti who scored all the goals/assists in this one. Patti put up two goals and an Assist, as did Callahan. Leftovers once again could not get anything from Junior Lindamood who failed horribly, but it was Matt Chappel who got the goal from a Tom Griffin assist. This sets up a leftovers vs puckers toilet bowl that everyone is talking about. Rumor has it Bobby Sirkis will be scratching his entire team and brining in his C league Wet Willies team for a fun skate around….literally.
