A Slim Margin

Grave Diggers(2-2-1) 3, Komets(1-4-0) 1

On the opening drive the Komets' Sean Kier makes an all-star quality redirect, high, blocker, to score on their first shot. For the remainder of the period they maintained quality possessions and gave up little on defense. The Diggers could not be held back. In a hitherto unforeseen elevation of ability, goals from Randy Chappel, and last sessions most improved player, Steve Culps, the Diggers take the lead. Early in the third, Randy ices the game with his second (unassisted), and the Komets succumb to what was last session's undisputed worst team. Some members of the Komets are calling out MHOA on this one, but without Bob Sirkus in the line-up, who would be responsible for such transgressions? (Actually, Bob has zero penalty minutes in all four games played. Congratulations.)

DFW Titans(3-2-0) 0, Brewzers(3-2-0) 0 FORFEIT!

Half of success, I've heard, is just showing up. The Titans collect their half on a scheduling mistake by Jamil Al Jabri, sources say. It has been reported here before that the fate of the Brewzers is carried on Jamil's shoulders and it seems the hypothesis is proved to be true. I couldn't tell you what happened on the ice for the hour that the Titans were there, but I certainly hope there were no injuries. The Brewzers winning streak (yeah, those words just don't seem to belong together) comes to an end. Don't get down on yourself just yet, Jamil, Yockey may turn this one into a reschedule, rather than a forfeit.

Chiefs(1-4-1) 3, Puckers(2-3-0) 1

The Chiefs have been inspired and secure their first win and remove themselves, for now, from the worst team debate. Donaghue looked uncharacteristic in net allowing many rebounds and although he maintains a perfect first period, Richard Wojcio beats him singlehanded for the Chief lead. Larry Nouanemany evens it up before the period expires only to see the game get completely out of hand in the third. Wojcio gets the assist on a goal from Bill Broad, and Ryan Brent scores another to put it out of reach. The Puckers have got to generate more shots to get back to .500, Casey is out, right or wrong, you still have at least four steps (some say, 14) to make it through in this grieving process.

Bleu Devils(4-1-0) 2, Snipers(2-3-0) 1

Fill-in goalie David Blubaugh allows a goal in the first to Sniper, Ed Vogel, but hangs tough (now that song is stuck in my head) until his Bleu Devils can bail him out. Charlie Heine ties it in the second and Joshua Schecter gets the winner in the third, only two minutes in, though. I'm sure David never really felt the pressure back off until the final buzzer (when he surely shook hands with everyone he saw). Thirty minutes of penalties in this game including a ten minute roughing misconduct to Jesse Henderson of the Snipers.

Privateers(4-1-0) 6, Moose(0-2-1) 2

The Moose are the worst in the league. It is not however, proof that starting a team of true instructional level players can't be done in Euless. Roster issues abound with this fledgling team, from short benches to late arriving players. It's more about some stability than talent at this point. The Privateers have proven that they are an elite team, or at least Cody Payne is. Of the six Privateer goals on the night, he scores four, take away his output and the Moose go to overtime, at least on paper. Patrick Haley and Joel Bush score the remaining Privateer goals in this skills competition. Matt Campbell gets credit for both Moose goals. It's amazing to me that the Privateers can afford to keep this high octane offense on the road at 3.50 a gallon.

Stickmen(4-1-0) 2, Silverwings(3-2-1) 1

David Blubaugh, in his second game, gains the same score but in different fashion. The Sticks are on a quest to silence their critics, after opening the schedule with a loss they have seen naught but wins since. In this one they never let their skates off of the throat, a scoreless first is followed by goals from Alex Eysermans in the second and Brad Bynum in the third. The Wings manage a half rally in the closing of the third as Jason Neal spoils the shut-out. More handshakes must be in order.

Warriors(2-3-0) 2, Ice holes(2-3-0) 1

The holes are in unfamiliar territory now, a losing streak. Travis Lehr finally finds his rhythm and leads the Warriors to victory. He claims his first goal in just over a minute into the game and Talley and the Warriors hold on until the highly effective Jon Bird finally beats the netminder in the final minute of the second. After sitting on his hands for ten minutes waiting for someone else to end the stalemate, Travis assumes the role of a Super Delegate and nets the winner.

Patriots(5-0-0) 3, Spiders(1-3-1) 2

In another one goal game the Pats just keep a rollin'. Junior Lindamood sweeps in the first goal for the Pats, and things were looking good, until Arvin Manalo scores on a harmless looking screen shot from the point. But, in just over a minute later Gabe Rodriguez wrestles the lead back. The second period sees Ellis fend off a vicious attempt from Lynn Kresta then fend off sleep for the remaining ten minutes as Nina Bonifaz plays out of her mind at the other end. After holding the rapacious Patriots off for over eighteen minutes, Nina allows the cushion goal in the third, nevertheless the Spiders summon all of their reserve and with the powerplay goal of Mike Reeves to pull within one, they pull the brown footed booby from the net and mount an all out assault, sort of. The Spiders struggle to get out of their zone have to put Nina back in, pull her again, and . . . well, it didn't work out that great.

The Brewzers were told the game was at 10:30 by the rink, and that we didn't need to check that with Yockey.

Cody Payne of the Privateers is indeed a good player, but he got the easiest goal of his hockey life in the first period. Ellis, considerately filling in for the late-arriving Moose goalie, attempted his best Marty Turco puckhandling display but gave us Patrick Roy instead. His clearing attempt went right to Patrick Haley, who fired it at the net and off Cody's leg for Payne's second of the game, scored without the puck ever touching his stick!

Payne does not need help from goalies. He does need to consider moving up after this session or consider playing a position other than center.

having played with cody for a few years now, i can honestly say that he is not a player that needs to move up when put in context with the rest of the league. he's got the most goals for a reason, but that reason is not because he is a sand bagger- he gets a lot of great goals by knowing where to be and being tenacious and smart instead of trying to pull a bunch of triple deke slap shot crap. the payne boys are classy dudes and don't play that style of hockey at all. i attribute most of our success to the fact that we have played together for so long and that we don't have any puck hogs or over zealous tools who want to make the game all about them.

"He does need to consider moving up after this session"

pfft...

Ryan said it all. Cody just knows where to be and when to be there but isn't out there skating circles around everyone else. He just pays attention. Maybe goalies who are acting as subs should try following his lead.

I like this debate, it's interesting. It seems to me like once you find yourself leading the Instructional League in scoring, you've may have received all the instruction you need to advance to the next level of play. No need to try to force a player to move though since it's a personal choice: good I-leaguer or average D-leaguer. Maybe he just wants to play with his brother/friends. Certainly no problem with that.

In my defense, the clearing attempt I made went off of one of my guys' skates and right into the slot. I just missed making the save, too.

I have seen the Privateers play this season. Yes, they do have good talented players on the team. But, I haven't seen any dominate sandbaggers or ringers on the team. The key is team play not individuals running up their stats to win games. I haven't seen a Jim Stuckmen on that team scoring 15 goals and 0 assist and gloating about it.

In Cody's defense, he should be the one to make a decision to move up or not.

As for you, Ellis. I've scored on you before, but not on one of your bonehead plays. Please send me a few more pucks my way. I average 1 goal every 3 seasons. I could use a few more goals to make my stats look good. HA! HA! HA! But it is better than collecting PIM's.

I'm sorry, but I looked at the stats of the top teams, and the Privateers infamous "Cody Payne" has scored 9 of their 15 goals. The Patriots top goal scorer has 3, the Stickmen and Blue Devils at 2 or 3, so I hardly believe that it is sheer chance that he always ends up in the right spot. I'm not complaining about him playing, I'm just saying that the Privateers need to check themselves, because without Cody Payne, they are a below average team. That, or Cody Payne is a puck hog who, deep down, the entire team dislikes because he doesn't spread the wealth, thus disallowing anyone else on that team to "shine"... who knows...

dear big talker,
BITCH PLEASE. Come see one of our games before you start talking a bunch of noise just from looking at the stats. The first few weeks stats had me as one of the top goalies in the league, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that it NOT the case. Stats can be misleading. I'm not denying Cody is a good player, but there are also a few other guys on his lines that are also good who care more about effective game play than getting their chance to "shine". One of these guys was the top scorer on our team when we were in Duncanville, and this season so far it so happens he has managed to set up assists for a lot of goals rather than scoring them. And it's cool. No one on our team is worried about it, no one we have played has complained about Cody's style of play during a game that I know of, so if that is the case, I'm not real sure why everyone else is obsessing over point streak.

Didn't Sharma try to give us a Euless welcome last week?

I've seen your team play... Not impressed. I challenge you to play one without your "lucky" Cody. Prove us all wrong.

oh, and being a lead goal scorer in duncanville is kind of like being the fastest "slow" kid in a "slow" kid race.

I saw Sharma give the the Privateers a "Euless welcome" by running his face into a bunch of elbows. I guess getting pwnd is your idea of a welcome. You all sound like a bunch of little kids by trying to justify why your teams aren't beating the new kids even though you have been playing longer. This week it is Cody, next week something else, but the real answer is so clear. Beards. Lots of beards.

Big Talker sucks farts out of anuses with old paper towel rolls. I have seen it in the restrooms at Euless star center. It was rather annoying.

I have seen the Privateers play, and I have to say damn, I have a team of man crushes on my hands. Never have I ever seen such a glorious bunch of hard hitting old time hockey players. From the man with the golden gloves, number 4 and 28, I have to say, these are some strapping fine young men. I only wish I could learn all their names and have all their autographs. You should be jealous of this team, they are far superior than yours. If you don't like the new kids on the block, then you aren't true hockey fans. Step up and play hard, that's what these fine young gentlemen are doing. But then again, you all play for "fake" hockey teams. The Privateers are true hockey at its best. I will go out on a limb here and say, The Privateers ARE hockey. Suck it down love monkey, you all are just cock mongrels sucking farts from paper towel rolls. One dudes already claimed so, judging by your cowardly comments about Cody, I believe it to be true.

I just want to clear one thing up about this whole Cody Payne thing. In one recent game, I'm credited with a primary assist on one of Cody's goals. It's crap. I scored the goal cleanly from the point, with a puck imbedded with special guidance systems stolen from Tony Stark's Malibu basement lab. Cody skated right up to me after the play and said he never touched it.

So, now that we know he's only scored 8 of our goals, can all the anonymous complainers shut it?

Big Talker,

Don't discount the possibility that Cody is just the fastest "slow" kid in a Euless "slow" kid race.

Hodges,

Help me out. I can't find you, Skupien, or Vaughan listed in Pointstreak. Do you guys play in Euless, or is it just that you haven't managed to get on a scoresheet yet?

When I signed up for Euless I-league, I signed up for a competitive sport in the form of hockey. Unfortunately I haven't seen so much complaining since baseball. Isn't hockey the greatest sport with the most die hard fans? Isn't it full of the toughest, meanest bunch of hooligans out of any other sport known to man? Hopefully we can all answer yes to these questions and finally agree on something. Remeber, the Privateers are just like you, they put their skates on one at a time, but when they do, they win hockey games. Need I say, when they don't, they go home and f*ck your girlfriends. =) Smile, your playing the greatest sport full of the greatest trash talk. Maybe if your faces didn't mimic that of labias you guys would be better hockey players. In other words, quit being a bunch of smelly cunt happy pussy farts. Play the great sport of hockey. If you can't beat us, practice rather than whining. Don't sign up for a competitive sport hoping there is no competition. Cody Payne brings it. If that is our secret, cover him better. Your energy could be better used coming up with strategy and playing drop in trying to get better at the game. Then again, why would you do that? You're smelly labias might turn into manly balls....

oh, shit. that is way more trash talking than i can handle, guys.
but seriously. what? big talker- right dude. we'll get right on benching a player for a game he has paid for in order to prove to "everyone" (you) that we can play without him. and your logic is a little shaky. i will not make the claim, ever, that duncanville was a mecca of hockey skill, because that place was a total mess, but to say that an average player in the "slow kids" league became a ringer in your ever so superior i league overnight is just silly. we are the same team that we were in duncanville. the brahmas, who were essentially the blue devils, destroyed us on a regular basis with the exception of a few games. and cody was still on our team. we have good players but we also have average players (myself included in that category) but we have been having a good season, we have played together as a team a long time and we have been fortunate with a few of our pairings. with the exception of last week, all of our wins have been by a pretty small margin.

Just an fyi,

watch what you say about Cody. Notice he hasn't commented on here at all even though he has, most likely, read this. Cody Payne is probably one of the nicest players in I-league and no matter how much we all love internet fights and drama, we should keep some level of respect. Cody is very good but too good... doubtful. Either way, you see it, if you think he is NHL ready or not, the guy is extremely kind and good natured so try to take it easy on the personal attacks.

As Randy pointed out, the score keeping and the books for I-league aren't exactly rock solid. We all know there are major mistakes in those books because the score keepers are too busy playing music or they are 14, sometimes both.

Plus, if Cody wasn't even the best player on points in Duncanville's "slow kid race" but is the top player in Euless then what does that make Euless.

Now, let's all have fun smearing each other anonymously.

I don't understand why the webmaster has to continue his ridiculous Duncanville vs Euless bs in regards to the Privateers...

And the total BS about Cody needing to move up --- please..... David Blubuagh anyone?

I fully expected Euless to be more competitive than Duncanville, and it is. But there are teams in Duncanville that can beat teams in Euless, and a lot of us (including myself) play at both rinks. DV Dragons would do just fine in Euless.
