Bonus Vicis Hockey Somnium

The truncated opening night leaps-off with no downtime, once again. Some teams made appearances at the tournament in Farmer's Branch, in particular the Blue Devils. The Devils have added some potent members to their offensive lines and came away with a shoot-out victory after a three all tie to an Oklahoma City band of flyboys in the novice division. I know their were more than three games on but can't find the records for any of them. I only played the first period of the Patriots/Stickmen game, but I was told by a reliable source that the game was one by my Pats two to nothin'. Look up Wil Dobson (who seems to be popping-up all over the web) to find out what became of the Komet game, and which ever opponent they faced.

This session marks the beginning of the Saturday night D-league, and the downsized true I-league. Here's the best I can do. . . no additional commentary needed from the likes of you.

Saturday night D-league

Spiders (6-6-1) 4
Brewzers (3-10-0) 2

Bill Wessel shows-up in the season opener as a one man hockey machine, he scores the first two goals, unassisted, for an early Spider's lead. Steven Collyard tries to rally the Brew-crew with some aggressive play but finds himself in the box watching the Spiders hit the net again with a Wessel assisted Mike Ginnard goal. The Spiders build a four goal mountain when Arvin Manalo carries the puck down from the point and tucks the game piece behind the overwhelmed Mike Moore. After a rabid tongue-lashing from the net minder, the Brewzers come to life in the third. Steve Daniels takes the reigns and scores the first Brewzer goal. The second Brewzer goal comes from Dennis Sutton, unfortunately it's the last one. If the Spiders are trying to improve on last sessions final win total you wouldn't know it to look at the bench.

Real I-league

Puckers (5-4-2) 2
Shockers (5-6-0) 1

The Puckers welcome back their storied, franchise goaltender, Patrick Donaghue. Is this a permanent roster move or just a publicity stunt by the team that failed to live-up to their post season expectations? Jason Arias is the first Pucker to pay tribute to his goalie, in the form of a late opening frame goal. The Shockers counter with the tying shot from Matt Russell. Pucker offense really picks it up, throwing shots at a better than two for one toward the Skocker net and Joey Otsuka does fall once more, giving the game winner to Steve Niekamp. The Shockers were unhappy with the level of play in the so-called I-league last session, though they made a strong finish, what will they say after this manhandling?

Warriors (6-4-1) 2
Mutineers (4-7-0) 4

The Warriors are a shadow of the team they once were. The Mutes control the first two periods limiting the Warriors offense to three shots. For their part, a goal from Nathan Hamilton and a rare goal from Chris Kirton. In the closing frame the Warriors finally make their presence felt, Phil Brown cuts the Mutineer lead in half, but Hamilton gets it back. The Warriors get another goal from Brown leaving only one goal for the tie. . . Ryan Lewis drains the feed from Kirton to make an easy win for the Mutinerds. Ryan gets the win but a terrible save percentage allowing two goals on seven shots, hey, it's opening night.

Sidenote: it must suck to be a Sharks fan

Is this one of the most disturbing commercials currently on television?

The Komets took on the Canadiens Saturday Night, who filled 6 open bench seats with whoever could be found amidst Chris Gallagher's little black book (which we all know is extensive).

The Komets roared in quickly with goals by Scottie Baldree and John Thompson, but the Canadien Offense never ever got out of the Komets net-minders face; Macha, Chris Gallagher, Danny Ronan, Young Kim, and the rest, put up a small tent in the Komets crease and just stayed there for the evening, finishing the game (and the Komets) for a score of 10 - 2.

The Komets desperately look to their coordinator now to put behind the Komets bench the level of talent displayed by Gallagher & Co... Is it possible?

Wil Dobson, the strain of sleepless nights evident on his face, currently sits in his N. Texas underground compound (aka Armadillo City) working frantically, cutting corners both financially and ethically, to complete the T-Virus which will turn humble "semi-D" players into undead killers.

Privateers vs. Ice Bats 13-2.... nuff said.

you really needed 13 goals?

Anonymous said...

Eric you are a dumbass.. get off your high horse... It comments like that, that make the Teers suck... 13 goals bad... but maybe the team was just giving it up... coming here and trying to rub it in... classless... I hope your team kicks your ass...

Privateers suck...they're in for an ass kicking later this season

Eric didn't even write that..... He wasn't even at our game. I think he played for the Mutineers.

Considering there is no Eric on our team it will be difficult to kick his ass. Speaking of classless...handshake line???

Speaking of classless...handshake line???

i like the hand shake line, but sometimes i think it is best to just go opposite ways......a 13-2 game would be one of those times..

Wow. Apparently they are both proper and possessive [expletive deleted]. I don't know how they managed that, but I'm impressed.
Also- really? Save percentage, Ellis? Bitch please. I'm going to come up with a modified shot count formula based on the number of text messages received/ Cannibal Corpse videos looked up by scorekeepers.

Unknown said...

well apparently not all of your teammates felt the same as you. Some of them had enough class to stick around for the handshake, one of them being your goalie

Anonymous said...

sometimes it takes a bigger man to just walk away...

Anonymous said...

more class than the kids who ran up the score.

Anonymous said...

More class than kids that talk $&*@ when they're winning 10-2 in the 3rd

Unknown said...

sometimes it takes a bigger man to just walk away from a fight, but from a handshake line?

Anonymous said...

joel, please use common sense. this person probably felt it was better for him/her to leave the ice without shaking hands as to avoid a possible fight.

Anonymous said...

It sounds more like they felt it was better to leave the ice without shaking hands as to avoid any possible indication of sportsmanship. Boo! BOOOOO!

haha. word.

There were some cool bats. The goalie and I don't remember the guys number from the team but he went into every face off joking and having a good time.
None of us are getting paid, so why fight? I've had my fair share of losses and it's a lot easier to just laugh it off.
Also, it's not like the Ice Bats played bad, they had a really short bench. They were tired.
They fought hard. It would have been better to shake all their hands afterwards though.

Anonymous said...

oh come on, yall don't really care about shaking hands..you just want something to fire back with when someone complains. We have all played with the teers and know that some of them have very short tempers (hence their name always coming up)...I guarantee that if you were in the bats position last week a few of you wouldn't have stuck around to shake hands...Poor sportsmanship?? Since the teers team as a whole seems to be too much for any other team in the i-league to handle (sure, call it saturday night d league, but it is still i league), then their true show of sportsmanship would be to split up instead of still focusing on "assembling the ultimate i league team." being undefeated can only be fun for so long.

idea for a new poll...

which shows less class?

A) running up the score
B) skipping the handshake line

both are losers to me

Dear ‘innocent bystander’,

I have taken it upon myself to disabuse you of the idea that the Saturday Night D is “still i league”.

I play on a Farmers Branch D-league and have 9 games under my belt now. I have seen some poor D-league teams which, with some bad luck, might have actually lost against a true I-league team like the Silver Wings, and I have seen some teams who play with an intensity which rocks my team back on its heels; and the team I play on is currently 13-5-0!

But what I saw this last Saturday, and from what I hear of the Privateers vs. the Ice Bats, the SND appears to be instead a collection of D/C All-Star players come together to wave their mighty peckers on the ice.

Generally, when a CLASSY and skilled player plays in our I-league, they sort-of hang about on the defensive lines and set up the wingers as they attempt to break-out… but that has officially ended as a S.O.P. in the S.N.D. Those same players, who I have much respect for because of their classiness in past games, are now skating forward and putting pucks in the net from an arms-reach away. To be clear, I am not talking about a good player making half-hearted slap shots from the blue line… I am talking about two or three of them on the same line, moving in with aggression.

The “D” name given to this new Saturday night expansion was, in my opinion, given to encourage skill players to come out and pay some money where they perhaps wouldn’t have before… and also to quell the bitching an moaning about ‘ringers’.

I was informed that the SND would not accept C-leaguers AT ALL, but that has not been the case. I have also noted that those team coordinators smart enough to see past those fluffy words have rebuilt their teams to compete with the Privateers and Canadiens. So now there is no turning back; either join the Cold War and stack your lines or you might as well just go back to the I-League and enjoy a more reasonable pricing plan.

I write this with no malice or complaints… I only think that the rest of you should understand what I have been awakened to.

Unknown said...

Just curious, what C leaguers are you speaking of playing in SND. I was just wondering because there are none on the Privateers.

Anonymous said...

Exactly Joel! Maybe it is about time for a few of them to move up!

Unknown said...

We go wherever Yockey tells us, so why don't you get him to make a SNC league and see if he moves us there.

Unknown said...

BTW Ellis, I am no sharks fan but in their defense don't you think it sucks worse for us Stars fans?

Anonymous said...

At least the blue devils finally left

Anonymous said...

yockey here go away, far away

Anonymous said...

yockey here again, need you to play in the SNDH league

bcIII said...

I think it must be worse to be a sharks fan, every year they turn in a great regular season and rarely make it out of the first round. This year they go in as the undisputed number one seat and lose both of their home games.

Coming from the position of last place in I Minor last session you all need to stop crying! My Team was dead last but we had fun because this is a rec league! The people complaining are just mad because their teams used to be the ones that were going undefeated but have fallen behind.

When a player with one point from the team that finished last in an adult instructional league MINOR says you are bitching too much... ouch! Just ouch!

Go out and have fun. If you can't do that then you really should stop playing because it just isn't worth the agony that seems to be going on.

Sharks can still pull this off. Whatever happens, just let someone beat the Red Wings! Go Flyers!

Chiefs are no more

Question Question...So does the I league have games or practices this weekend??

Anonymous said...

What happened to the Chiefs?

Anonymous said...

Bobby is blackmailing us with pictures taken after our loss to the Diggers....He says that if we play again he will show them to everyone! No, nothing really..A lot of the guys are taking a break for different reasons/moving on to other leagues. When I wrote the message we/they didn't have enough players for a team, but I dont know what the deal is now..Yockey is planning on combining a few teams with small rosters, so who knows.

No! But what will ginger bitch about ?

Remember, Ginger gripes about anything and everything. Including ringers!

Eric and Erick are too different people.

I am a Mutineer this season - not a Privateer.

I don't engage in trash talk --- EVER. And my friends on the Privateers generally don't either.

When Privateers (then Mustangs) first started in I-League Duncanville, we took our fair share of lopsided beatings.
