I League, Week 3

Without much more delay, week three was wrapped up and we are beginning to see the wheat being separated from the chaff.

Brewzers 2 Grave Diggers 0

Brewzers continue their strong season with a shutout of the scrappy Grave Diggers. Jamil Jabri scored as does Jason Nall on a Steven Daniels assist for the easy win. Goalie Mike Moore was perfect on shots as he out away all 12 shots he faced. From Brewzers Coach Andy Thomas, “We still have a lot of room to improve, notably Jennifer Leonard’s play needs to step up if we have any chance at winning the keg.” Another thought from the game, can someone explain how Bobby Sirkis’ little 8 year old brother Jake Sirkis was playing? Its more funny than anything.

Patriots 4 Blue Devils 2

Patriots continue their march on I league with another solid win against a very determined Blue Devils squad, mostly in the form of BD defensive play by one Mike Redmond. Patriots got two strikes from Junior “Caketown” Lindamood who was a beast in this game, while Travis Lehr and Butch Hutchinson also scored as well. The great Todd Smith would score on a Gloria “Hotness” Buell and Scott Spellman assist, and Mike “Ringer” Drago would get one as the game ended, but Patriots’ supremacy was never questioned past the first period. From Todd Smith, “We were outplayed, out coached, and outskated, they remind me of my New England Patriots team…damn they are good.” Pats Coach Hodges was not content with the game though, “We played like crap, if it was Mayhem out there, we would have lost 30-2”. As far as Blue Devils Nation is concerned, there was no Ray Workman, we are told through sources he will be skating laps as punishment for his absence.

Snipers 5 Stickmen 2

So finally it happened as both squads that have pretty much the same players, faced off against each other, and it looks like all the cool players went to the snipers. (SNAP!). In what was an actual close game, for a while, Snipers had a hat trick from Big Joe Tomme, plus goals from Jamil Jabri (WTF!?) and Lee Miller. Stickmen got their tallies from Brad Bynum and the great Alex “Greater than Jesse Henderson” Eysermans. This one was close up until the third, then the snipers just said “see ya” and left the stickmen crying. From Jesse Henderson, “We know that we had to represent the Stickmen nation in this one, since everyone else left.” For a while it was the Snipers that was the Stickmen’s farm team…we think it’s the other way around now.

Komets 2 Puckers 1

Komets finally put together a win after dropping three straight going back to last season. In what was a truly entertaining game to bash…er watch, we saw both teams struggle in a shockingly defensive performance…the heck??? Melissa Knourek got the first strike for the Komets, while John Padilla tied it up for the puckers. It was TCU’s own Scottie Baldree who had the game winner, to put the komets back on the winning track.

Warriors 3 Ice Holes 1

Back to the titans of I league, where we saw an epic struggle for the right to be mentioned in the same breath as the Patriots. After a scoreless first period, it would be the great Andrea Cortinas to get the Holes up to a 1-0 lead. Warrior would answer back towards the end of the period on a Roy Urquhart goal on a Carl Moser and Eric Johnson assist. Into the 3^rd we went with the game knotted at 1-1. The great Eric Johnson would be the hero in this one as he puts up 2 goals, one assisted by Urquhart in the winning cause for the Warriors, who sit tied with the Patriots for supremacy in the league.

Spiders 1 Puckers 0

In a very “dallas stars” like game, ie all defense, no scoring. We saw the Spiders get the win on the night in what is indicated to be a very lopsided game as dictated by shots. The Spiders generated 33 shots on the night all but one was cast away by Puckers Net Minder Casey Jenkins, mighty! While on the other end, it was John Ellis who was bored for most of the night as he only saw 6 shots. After 2 periods of no score it was Evan Callahan who would get the one and only needed goal for the Spiders. We don’t have anything witty to say about this game. Bye.

DALLAS STARS RELIEVE DOUG ARMSTRONG
FROM DUTIES AS GENERAL MANAGER

FRISCO, Tex., -- Dallas Stars Chairman of the Board and Owner Thomas O. Hicks announced today that he has relieved Doug Armstrong from his duties as General Manager of the hockey club.

“As an owner I have to be responsible for one person in Hockey Operations and that is the General Manager of the team,” said Hicks. “I thought that the team needed a change in direction. I know that change can be healthy and it was my determination that this move needed to be made. I want the Dallas Stars to return to being one of the elite teams in the league.

“Doug has been a great member of this organization for 17 years and has been a big part of the success we have had here in Dallas, starting under Bob Gainey and winning seven division titles, two Presidents' Trophies, making two consecutive Stanley Cup Finals appearances and winning the Stanley Cup in 1999. He has been our General Manager for the past five years, and we've been to the playoffs the past four seasons.”

Armstrong's contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2010-11 season.

“There is no question that Doug will continue to have a solid career in hockey as the future general manager of an NHL team,” said Hicks. “I would like to thank him for his efforts and I wish him and his family nothing but the best.”

Hicks said that the team will announce interim positions to run the Stars' hockey operations department in the near future.

Week 2!

Brewzers 4 Stickmen 0

In the first of two games for the Brews that night, they took the first one by storm in a 4-nil win. Matthew Walker scored twice while Paul Thurston also had a goal. Jamil Jabri also had an excellent night, as he put up a goal and an assist. This game could have been a lot worse, but David Blubaugh for the stickmen stopped 29 of 32 on the night. Back to greatness, the Brewzers have never looked this good. Rumor has it the patriots have begun filming their games…

Puckers 4 Brewzers 2

Perhaps we stand corrected on the Brewzers’ greatness?? Puckers dominated this one, perhaps by a lack of brewzers players? Mac Kenzie Funi scored the opening goal for the Brewzers, while Steve Niekamp tied it on a John Ward and Travis Lehr assist. Brewzers would then get the go ahead marker on a Paul Thurston goal. In the second period it was the puckers who started running away with it. Guy Riggs and Ward would score to give the puckers the upper hand, while Chris Kirton would ice the game in the third for the puckers fourth goal on the night.

Patriots take vengeance over their opening season loss last season with a dramatic 2-1 victory over the Ice Holes. In a game where defense prevailed and goaltending was at it’s finest, we saw this one go to the tenth’s place on the clock in regulation before a winner was decided. Pats continued their assault from Greg Helenbrook for the opening score, however Chris Hayes tied the game on a Greg Durante goal. However, it was the great master of hockey, he who’s name shall not be spoken by Egyptians, the great Jeff Vaughan who scored with .7 left in the game to crush the Ice Holes spirit and send Patriots nation rejoicing into the night once again. Patriots have now won 10 straight dating back to last season, who will lose first? New England Patriots, or Euless Patriots?

Patriots Hockey: We Pop Bottles….

Blue Devils 3 Komets 1

In what was the biggest rivalry next to the Patriots and Mayhem, this rivalry just got even bigger ... When newly hired Blue Devils coach Nate Hodges arrived late from the Patriots performance, he witnessed two horrible circumstances…the Komets were winning, and Sirkis was coaching the Komets. However the Blue Devils, who had half of china on their bench, rallied and carried the day. Rich Duval scored to open up the scoring on a Sean “Space Pope” Kier assist 30 seconds into the game. A scoreless second and mighty defensive performance was had in the second, but in the third…all hell broke loose. Blue Devils strike on a glorious play by Ray “Mighty Viking Warrior” Workman on a Todd “Mike Modano” Smith assist for the huge equalizer. The great Todd Smith would have the go ahead goal, even though pointstreak gave it to the goalie…WTF?!? This game also saw the return of the Euless hockey messiah himself, Josh Briscoe, who was epic on faceoffs. Some fireworks ensued as their was a violent collision involving a komet and a BD…some are calling it intentional, others purly incidental…we hope this doesn’t further infuriate this rivalary…Ray workman, not to be outdone, scored the empty netter and iced the game and sweet revenge for the Blue Devils.

Warriors 3 Spiders 2 SO

In our first shootout of the season, it was the Warriors…aka the Colts who remain undefeated on the year. Jon Hale off a Lynn Kresta and Mallissa Daniels assist had the spiders out in front early. However Scott Dolbee would have the answer late in the period. Michael Ginnard would score for the spiders in the second, however Mark Arnold would tie it up for the warriors in dramatic fashion. In the shootout it was Frank Casperson who would win it in the shootout and keep the perfect season alive for Coach Dallas Lehr and the Warriors. From Lehr, “We just went out there, played it one period at a time, gave 100% and really told the boys to keep shooting and score more points than the other team, we did that today and we won.”

Grave Diggers 3 Snipers 2

I league Week 1

Standings and Stat leaders are on pointstreak...go look. Its week one anyways, doesn't matter.

Grave Diggers 5 Puckers 2
The 2^nd game of the night for the grave diggers found them on the winning side as the GD put up 5 against what was supposed to be a stacked Puckers squad this season. Randy Chappel had two goals, while Dan Grimes had a goal and an assist for Grave Diggers. Puckers two goals were from Steve Niekamp and Guy Riggs. Puckers goalie Casey Jenkins was obliterated with 37 shots on the night.

Ice Holes 1 Grave Diggers 0
The first game of the season for the GD did not go according to plan as they had to battle a stingy Ice Holes defensive torrent. In what has become farm system for the D league Spartans over at Nytex, the Ice Holes dominated play by casting 27 shots at Grave Diggers’ goalie John Ellis, Michael Crook had the games only goal off a Andrea Cortinas assist. Ice Holes looked damned near impenetrable on Defense.

Warriors 6 Brewzers 5 (OT)
The coaching debut of Dallas Lehr got kicked off to a great start as this game featured what should be two of the top teams in the league this season. Game was started off by Sean Griffen getting two goals in the first for the Warriors, while Kenneth Thomas and Matthew Walker getting two for the Brewzers. Third Period had Walker get his 2^nd of the night while Daniel Grimes and Damon Lacey had the goals which gave the Warriors the lead into the third frame. In the third, both squads tore into each other as Walker would get the hat trick on the night while his brother Rob Walker would also get a goal. Tim Brady (cousin of Tom Brady?) scored the only goal in the third for the Warriors. This would send the game into OT where the great Clark Sandlin on a Tim Brady assist would get the winning talley.
Both these teams have tons of talent and are teams to be feared this season.

We also hear the Brewzers are getting new uniforms….FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stickmen 3 Spiders 1
Stickmen get an excellent performance in net from David Blubaugh, while getting adequate support from his offense to start the Stickmen off on the right foot in a 3-1 win. Stickmen drew first blood on a Tom Buckner goal in the first. In the second it would be Joe Tomme on a Ken Halford assist. Spiders tried to make a comeback on an Andrew Patti strike, however the empty netter from Ken Halford iced the game and Tom Yockey once again threw his clipboard against the wall. From Jesse Henderson, “I would like to thank our fans for coming out tonight, I’m glad I could put up such a great performance, and I would like to thank Alex Eyesermans for his pregame massages he gives me and Halford, it really helps us get loosened up before the game.”

Snipers 4 Blue Devils 0
It appears the Snipers and Stickmen could competing for best record in the league (what a keg game that would be if both teams could make it). This one was all snipers as Joe Tomme gets two goals, while Jesse Henderson and Fred MacDonnel also had goals in this one. Ken Halford and Larry Wade both had assists in the winning cause. The Evil Empire looked sporadic in the loss, perhaps from their lack of practicing in the offseason. From Ray Workman, “This loss was really a wake up call, we are going to be focused the rest of the season, it stars in the gym and the film room, and ends on the ice next week.”

Patriots 7 Komets 2

In his first pre-game speech as head coach, Nate Hodges told his patriots squad, “Do not Shoot like Nate Hodges, Do shoot like Bobby Sirkis.” Obviously they followed the game plan.
Simple domination in this one, as the Patriots mopped the floor with the Chris Gallagher-less Komets. The Patriots who didn’t lose any steam after the keg game, scored their goals in bunches. Clearly the Komets didn’t even belong on the same Ice as the Patriots as it looked like the New England Patriots vs the Washington Redskins. Travis Lehr and Greg Helenbrook both had two goals, while Butch Hutchinson scored as did Junior Lindamood and Scott Dolbee in thier Patriots debut. From Dolbee after the game, “This team is F&#^ sick”. The komets, in the interest of fairness, had their goals from Melissa Knourek and Mike Bierwiler. Also being reunited with his patriots brothers in arms was Bryan Brookman, “Man, I have missed playing with this team. It’s so great to be back.”
