I-League Returns Tonight

Yes, I-League returns tonight from the rink reburbishing, even if we're a tad late in posting it here. Sorry. About that refurbishing, here's an early report: The ice is like friggin' glass. You can see shadows from surface cuts on the newly painted floor. Really beautiful.

The schedule is out through Aug. 12. There's practice tonight, then three games before another practice on Aug. 5.

Euless I-League Dominates Grapevine

Yikes. Maybe this is not such a good idea. But, hey, they asked for it. An ad hoc team of 16 Euless I-Leaguers dominated the Grapevine I-League in a 10-0 victory on Friday night. Thanks to the guys who played: Chris Duran, Kent Taub, Nate Hodges, Dallas Lehr, Bobby Sirkis, Robert Sirkis, Rahul Sharma, Andrew Patti, Bryan Conner, Chris Conner, Rich Duval, Brian Bradley, Kenny Fain, Jeff Eagle, Mike Drago and Dan Grimes. We had a great time and won another t-shirt ... even if it was a bit too easy.

Wolverines, Brewzers Skate the Keg

The Wolverines and Brewzers each skated the Stanley Keg Saturday. Bobby Sirkis (photo above) got the hat trick in the Wolverines' 5-2 victory over the Stickmen. The Brewzers defeated the Blue Devils 2-0 in the other title game. Matt Walker and Milton Highfill scored for the champs.

In other games:

Stingers 4, Redrum 3 (shootout): This one went deep into the shootout, perhaps seven skaters to a side. We lost count. A great finish to start the night.

Snipers 3, Spiders 1: Jeff Thomas scored twice for the Snipers.

Fugaweez 4, Ice Holes 2

Patriots 6, Phantoms 1

Spuds 6, Puckers 5: Spuds get their first victory.


And a good time was had by all in the bar afterward ... Good season, folks.

Perhaps amazingly, the Friday night I-leaguers at Grapevine's Polar Ice are challenging the Euless I-league to another death match. We've beaten them twice in a row, most recently in an 8-0 blowout (8-0 was when they quit keeping score) back in March. Hot Off the E-mail: Keg Schedule

The schedule for Stanley Keg Championship Night/I-League Appreciation Night Lineup is just in from Knute. It's a little odd, I guess because he had an odd number of teams in each group and was obligated to have at least one "inter-group" match. You have 1st-place games in "group A" and "group B," but the two matchups for 3rd and 5th place are labeled "game a" and "game b." Best of luck to everyone on Saturday.
