Kegs

A carrier pigeon just arrived with these results from Saturday's Keg championship round:

Snipers over Blue Devils
Mayhem over Patriots

More details to follow from BAC ...

If you guys know more, post a comment. Or just complain about the ringers, or whatever.

Heads-up: Euless DPSC has a rare Monday night drop-in game tonight at 8:30-10:30 p.m.

Cheers,

bc

If the Pats had won, would BAC have posted it on Sunday?

Unfortunately, the Mayhem win is shrouded in controversy. The refs actually admitted to blowing the non-icing call that resulted in the Mayhem's winning goal. They also admitted to missing the 7 skaters on the ice during the final minute (that number does include Duran). Either way, though, the Pats should have skated out the non-icing call instead of leaving Jesse hanging and maybe they should have cashed in on the 2-man advantage the refs handed them to try and make up for their blown icing call. Look for these 2 teams to be back in the top game next season. It was a very entertaining game which was described by the great Knute as what he expects a good D-league game should be like (time to move up and get it handed to you like the Phantoms?)! Can anyone say "skill gap" between the 2 leagues? I knew you could!

maybe it's time he move some of those "i-league" teams into a new d-2 league.

there are too many teams now in i- and d-leagues. time for a new league that splits the difference and allows you to put the "instruction" back into instructional league.

one guy's opinion.

Anyone heard anything on the power skating/stick handling class that was supposed to start around April in Euless?

I am not sure the Euless I-league will ever be a true instructional league. There just does not seem to be any room in Euless for a real instructional league. New players come, but old players never leave. It's just too much damn fun ;)

At every level, it is the ringers that really change the landscape. IMHO, a ringer is someone playing at least 2 levels below their skill.

I know it is tough for the Phantoms in the 'D' league right now. But, they are growing as a team, without trying the quick ringer fix. You won't find any 'D' league teams laughing at the Phantoms. If you don't play your best, they will beat you. I hope the guys stick around next season. Things will get better for them.

On the other hand, you have 'D' league teams like the Stickmen. The real difference between the two teams (Stickmen and Phantoms) are the two recent high-school kids that were added this season to the Stickmen. Personally, I feel really bad for most of the Stickmen players. All you have to do is sit in the bar and watch #25 and #4 try and go end-to-end all damn game. They very rarely even try and pass, even when other Stickmen players are wide open for a shot.

It would be no fun playing for the Stickmen, and its no fun playing against them any more.

I didn't see the game, but it doesn't sound right to hear the Pats complaining about reffing. The Pats are a good team and so are the mayhem. Somebody had to win and somebody had to lose. Why blame the refs? If there isn't a whistle, then you keep playing! Too many men on the ice is a different story... sounds like they got away with one on that one. Did they score when they had the extra skater?

What did Knute have to say about this controversy? Did Mayhem win the keg? I guess we'll hear more tomorrow from BAC.

Komets took 3rd (Silver I-League) with a nice 4-1 score. I didn't see any ringers in there... it was like slow-motion hockey! :)

Congrats on the win Mayhem.

It was a well fought game with mistakes made on both sides. It looked like the Pats were complaining to each other alot. MAYHEM on the other hand worked as a team.
This could be another I league keg game in the future,

Pats were not complaining to each other....they were communicating. And if the Mayhem were doing the same, that is probably one of the biggest reasons that these teams were in the top game. Communication is probably the least used tool in the league and the lack of it has certainly led to the demise of several teams.
As a Pat, I think we have every right to complain about the reffing if the ref admits to making a mistake which ultimately decided the game. I am just as upset with myself that we let up on that play the way we did (and this takes us back to the whole commumication thing!). Maybe the end result would have been different if we had yelled at Jesse that there was "No Icing".
Even though we lost (and losing sucks), it was a fun game. I know I learned a lot from it which I hope will help me in future sessions.

Wow, it's tough to be a Stickmen player these days... Where does the hate come from?

We have played in the D league for five sessions now and most with better results than this session I might add. Ryan (AKA "highschooler" number 1) played for us last session and Knute assigned him to our team as a pick up. Roberto (AKA "highschooler" number 2) is a friend of Ryan's and is filling in for a lost player.
Both of them are great guys.
The rest of the team is made up of players that compete well in D league and some of us who are still trying to compete well. Then again it is only D league. Some people take D league way to seriously.
The last I checked, everyone on the team was happy to be there and loves playing together.

I'm not sure why you choose to bash us but hey bash away, eh?

COME ON PEOPLE!!! Let's quit the bickering, trash talking, and complaining. When this blog first started it served a great purpose...to inform, entertain, and amuse us. Unfortunately it appears to have become a forum for guys (gals?) to bash each other and spew hateful comments. GET OVER YOURSELVES. Play hockey, quit taking freakin' I league and D league so seriously- and have fun!!!

Amen, Ah say, Sir! -- MG, Lead Oxygen-Gasper on the Fugs (last game there, look for the THUgs next session!) and Leftovers...

...and I loved every minute of it, on both teams.

Just my two cents... Yeah, winning a few (or all!) games is great (done both), but I'm there for the fun, your basic rec-league player. Wouldn't miss it, barring maybe a slipped disk or two (no, not in my head, calm down, ha!).

Have a great night, see you(se!) next time.
