Open Ice, Where Are You?

Dear friends, a conspiracy of events -- youth hockey camps, namely -- has left us out in the cold recently. Drop-in hockey times are few and far between, it seems, especially for working stiffs who can't play at noon on a weekday. Even if you can, you're out of luck this week. Take at look at the Euless drop-in schedule.

So, here's to you, Mr. Working Stiff Bad Hockey Player.

Just for you, we're resurrecting the old drop-in hockey roundup. Here's where to find ice time this week around the greater Euless-and-environs metropolis. If anyone is interested in forming an I-D league flashmob at one of these pickup times, leave a COMMENT below. (Subliminal message: Sunday night at Euless might be good.)

For week of Aug. 6-12 (Sun.-to-Sat.)

Euless StarCenter: There's a drop-in Sunday (also the following Sunday) from 8:45 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. There is NO NOONTIME drop-in until Friday. That's it for the week.

Farmers Branch StarCenter: Noontime drop-in every weekday but Thursday. Adult stick and puck is Tuesday-Wed.-Thurs. from 7 a.m. to 8:30. On Friday, there's always a good drop-in from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Duncanville StarCenter: Noontime drop-in every weekday but Thursday. There's a drop-in at 5 p.m. Sunday, 8 p.m. Monday, 9 p.m. Thursday.

Ice Training Center (Richardson): There's drop-in at 10 p.m. Sunday, 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays (Wednesday is a good crowd but a tough game.), and there's a 35-and-up dropin on Friday night at 9 p.m.

Grapevine StarCenter: There's sticktime every weekday morning from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and pickup every Friday and Saturday from 9:45 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Week 3 Results

Phantoms 4, Stingers 3 (shootout): Bryan Brookman's shootout goal capped a big comeback for the Phantoms. The Stingers led 3-0 after Roland Widmann's power-play goal at the 2:24 mark of the second period. But back came the Phantoms, with goals by Jason Neal, Jay Peters and Mystery Guy 57, not named on the roster. Editor's note: We just had a brainstorm. Every time a goal is scored by a Mystery Player or whenever we can't read the scoresheet, we'll give it to the scorekeeper. In this game, Adam Socket scored twice, once for each team. Nice game.

Stickmen 4, Ice Holes 1: Jeff Thomas scored twice for the Stickmen, who blew the game open with three goals in five minutes of the third period. Greg Delaney and Alex Eysermans each had one. For the Ice Holes, Steve Junker put one in.

REDRUM 6, Komets 3: REDRUM also blew it out with three quick third-period goals. Six different players scored. Daniel Barr had one goal and two assists. Billy Craft had a goal and an assist. For the Komets, Mike Bresnahan scored twice, while Ray Scott had a goal and a helper.

Snipers 2, Fugaweez 1: Sarah Buckner scored unassisted with 2:40 left as the Snipers got a big victory. Their other goal was by Nidal Jabri, one of at least three Brewzers chipping in Saturday. Eric Johnson tied the game for Fugaweez at the 7:48 mark of the second.

Brewzers 2, Blue Devils 0: Kenny Fain and Jamil Jabri went back-to-back for goals late in the first period and goalie Mike Moore made it stand up for the victory. Moore was perfect on 14 shots. The Brewzers' two goals came in a span of 1:23 as the first period ran down.

Patriots 4, Puckers 0: Dan Barr scored twice on Jeff Vaughn assists to lead the Patriots. Jeremy Tinley and Steve Benefield also found net in an easy victory.

Spiders 4, Wolverines 3 (shootout): Bryan Couture's shootout goal lifted the Spiders. Andrew Pattie had three assists in the effort. The teams traded goals -- two for each side -- in a furious third period. The Wolverines played short again (eight skaters). Somebody get these boys some help.

Week 2 Results

OK, they're only six days late. A man cannot live on hockey alone. Here are results from July 22 ...

Brewzers 3, Stickmen 1: Jamil Jabri scored twice, and (we assume) a relative named Nidal had the third goal for Brewzers. Stef Trapp scored for the Stickmen, who were in this game until late. Brewzers broke a 1-1 tie with only 1:28 left.

Spiders 4, Komets 1: Alex Atkins scored thrice for the killer Spiders. Patti Greco got one. For the winless (but spunky and quite numerous; 15 skaters on the bench) Komets, the only goal came from Ray Scott in the second period. They managed just five shots all game on Jeremy Brown.

Phantoms 1, Snipers 0: Cory Howard scored on a Patti Greco assist in the closing seconds to lift the Phantoms over the Snipers in a squeaker. Goalie Jesse Gonzales was perfect on 17 shots for the Phantoms.

Wolverines 4, Stingers 3 (OT): The shorthanded Wolverines (7 skaters) won on Greg Mersberger's third goal at the 3:17 mark of overtime. Mersberger might have had four, we don't know. The scorekeeper gave it to No. 44, but there is no such creature on the roster. Stingers' goals were by Scott Childress, Jason Isham and No. 3 (of whom there is no such creature on the roster). Nice job, scorekeep. This is why we don't keep stats anymore.

Fugaweez 3, Ice Holes 2 (OT): Chuck Dolbee scored on an Eric Johnson assist at 3:54 of overtime to lift (Who the?!?!) Fugaweez. Dolbee also had an assist, and Johnson had Fugaweez's first two goals. Hey guys, share the puck, will ya? Mike Skupien and Steve Junker scored for Ice Holes.

Patriots 2, Blue Devils 1: Antti Sivula got both goals for the Patriots and Jon Ellis stopped 19 of 20 shots. Mike Drago scored unassisted in the third for the BD's.

Puckers 4, REDRUM 3: Brent Lasse scored on a Rob Constantine assist with 4:45 left to send the Lucky Puckers to victory. REDRUM had tied the game less than a minute earlier on a Jason Howell goal. Constantine also scored for the Puckers, along with John Ward and Daniel James (we think). Dan Barr and Carl B. added scores for the Redrummers.
